Background / History

Thor was exiled to Earth after his recklessness helped provoke war with Jotunheim. Stripped of his ability to wield Mjolnir, he arrived as a formidable but mortal-like fighter, able to defeat S.H.I.E.L.D. agents through skill yet vulnerable to human weapons. His failure to lift his own hammer left him despondent and questioning whether he was still Thor. 585 588

During his exile, Thor learned compassion, responsibility, and the need to protect ordinary people. Mjolnir restored its recognition when he chose to defend Earth from Loki's use of the Rainbow Bridge as a planet-killing weapon. Thor then destroyed the Bridge himself, accepting the resulting instability in the Nine Realms rather than allow Earth to be sacrificed. 640 641

After being killed while confronting the Destroyer, Thor was resurrected by Mjolnir and pursued the Asgardian weapon to protect Earth.
