As they spoke, they had already entered the maze of bookshelves. A rich scent of ink rushed over them. Just as Zhuge Yuan was wondering where this place was, Li Jinshu grabbed him and abruptly pulled him to one side. There was light ahead.
This time, Li Jinshu did not even speak. He merely gestured for Zhuge Yuan not to make a sound, then led him forward step by careful step.
Faint light filtered through the gaps between the bookshelves in scattered specks. As they drew closer to the source, muffled sounds of reading drifted from within the room. There were other people inside.
Yet, separated by the bookshelves, Zhuge Yuan could not see where they were. Still, judging by Li Jinshu's calm expression, the situation did not seem dangerous.
As the light grew brighter, Zhuge Yuan finally noticed that things had been carved into the stone pillars around them. The pillars farther ahead could no longer be seen, but the nearest one depicted someone creating writing.
He was said to be a person, yet did not look like one. The figure carving characters into the stone had double pupils and four eyes, six ears and eight arms, as though several people had been layered atop one another. It was exceedingly strange.
The next pillar showed much the same scene, except characters had begun to appear on the stone, while one of that person's hands had disappeared.
As he continued looking, Zhuge Yuan discovered that the characters created by the strange man on the pillars seemed to possess some mysterious power. The more characters he wrote, the fewer excess parts his body had.
By the time he had finished writing, apart from his double pupils and four eyes, he was otherwise no different from an ordinary person.
