Background / History

As a youth, Zhuge Yuan studied under a village teacher and aspired to become a great hero. When confronted with black pottery jars, paper figures, and a drought-linked beast, he resolved the crisis through research and reasoning rather than force. His teacher subsequently agreed to teach him Mystical Power and sent him toward the Daqi Children's Examination and further study. 811

He traveled to Baixia City seeking Minglun Hall on the recommendation of his teacher, who claimed friendship with Wang Changxu. Zhuge Yuan learned that Wang had died a century earlier, but a divination confirmed his connection to Wang; he was nevertheless admitted only as a laborer rather than a disciple. 1040 1041 1043

At Minglun Hall, Zhuge Yuan became disillusioned with its rigid hierarchy and its refusal to teach servants. He learned of the Five Directions worlds, the Reverse Immortal Following Mortal, and Minglun Hall's duty of preserving history and order through writing. 1043 1045 1046 His objections sharpened after seeing Evil Spirit heads used as offerings and being subjected to the coercive Disciple's Rules. By the time Li Huowang encounters him, Zhuge Yuan has become a formidable Heart Pan connected to the threatened history of Daqi.
