After proposing the bet, Flender added another sentence.
"Of course, if you don't want to bet, that's fine too!"
As he said this, Flender felt restless and uneasy. If Yang Ming truly refused, the little money he treasured as life itself would be slipping away from him!
Now, Flender could only hope that his judgment was right—that Yang Ming was someone who did not lack money.
Moreover, according to what he had learned from Zhao Wuji, Yang Ming was either arrogant or extremely confident in himself. He would not fear challenges, much less something like a bet! That was why Flender had done all this.
Hearing that Flender wanted to gamble again, Yang Ming asked with interest.
"What do you want to bet on this time?"
Hearing Yang Ming's question, Flender secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Asking about the bet meant he was interested. Then, thinking of the terms he had prepared, Flender became incomparably confident.
"Let's bet on how much time you spend attending classes during the month you stay at Shrek Academy!"
"If the time you spend in class exceeds half of our teaching hours, I win. If it does not exceed half, you win!"
"For this month, you won't count as a student of Shrek Academy. You can arrange your own schedule!"
Flender was highly confident that he could win because his sworn brother, beloved friend, the Martial Soul theory Great Master of the Soul Master World born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon family, Yu Xiaogang, had written to him. He wanted to come work with his old friend and would arrive in ten days.
Flender believed that with Yu Xiaogang's profound knowledge, he would surely win over the super genius before him and keep him at Shrek Academy. As for Yang Ming deliberately refusing to attend class, Flender did not think that would happen. He still had an eye for people. As long as Yang Ming attended more than half the classes, would he leave Shrek Academy afterward?!!
Seeing Flender so confident, Yang Ming found it somewhat strange. Knowing he came from a major Soul Master family, Flender still dared to bet with him on this? Was their Soul Master education truly that good? Interesting! After thinking it over, Yang Ming spoke.
"Fine, I accept the bet!"
Although Flender's judgment of Yang Ming was correct—Yang Ming truly did not lack money, nor did he fear challenges—fearlessness did not mean he would accept every challenge. What truly made Yang Ming agree was the content of the wager itself.
Yang Ming himself had something he wanted from Shrek Academy. He needed to learn about Shrek Academy to unseal the memories of that person in his mind. However, the bits of information he had learned so far, with truth and falsehood mixed together, were not enough. Hearing was unreliable; seeing was believing. No matter what, he had to go take a look. Since Yang Ming was going anyway, he might as well make the bet.
Moreover, Yang Ming had learned something new. Was Shrek Academy especially skilled at educating Soul Masters? He looked forward to finding out.
But how could a bet have only one side putting up stakes? Yang Ming continued.
"However..."
"If I lose, I have to pay money. What about if you lose?!!"
Hearing Yang Ming bring up the stakes, Flender hesitated. As an iron Cat Eagle, he only wanted to take without giving, freeload forever, and not spend a single copper. Even if he believed he had a high chance of winning, there was still a possibility that he could lose, wasn't there?
Yet without stakes, the bet could not be established. Nor could he bear to let the living advertisement right before his eyes slip away. After thinking for a long time, Flender still could not come up with anything he was willing to offer. In the end, he could only ask Yang Ming.
"What do you want?"
Looking at the stingy Flender before him, Yang Ming suddenly felt an inexplicable surge of anger. It was as though he felt, What standing does someone like this have to be the headmaster of Shrek Academy?!! A feeling of shame at being associated with the man lingered in Yang Ming's heart.
Then, Yang Ming directly struck at Flender's weak point.
"If you lose, compensate me with fifty thousand Gold Soul Coins. If your academy's courses fail to satisfy me, then wasting a month of my time will only cost you this much. That's generous enough!"
Hearing Yang Ming's icy words, Flender felt utterly miserable. His weak point had been seized!
Flender instinctively wanted to refuse, but when he thought of Shrek Academy's current state and looked at the Youngster before him who could bring hope to Shrek Academy, Flender decided to take a huge gamble. Wasn't it just fifty thousand? At worst, he would give up his coffin savings.
Headmaster Flender truly had worked diligently for Shrek Academy's development. The academy's poor development was simply because he lacked the ability, not because he had not put his heart into it!
"Fine!" Flender forced himself to agree to Yang Ming's soul-piercing demand.
Hearing Flender agree, Yang Ming made the decision final.
"Then it's settled! When do your classes begin?"
It was currently the enrollment period for the major Soul Master academies. Yang Ming had never attended school outside before, so he was not very clear on the exact dates.
Seeing that the matter was basically settled, Flender let out a long breath, though he still felt somewhat uneasy inside!
"Three days from now!"
Yang Ming nodded to show that he understood. Then, out of courtesy, he invited Flender.
"Would you like to have breakfast together?"
When Flender heard that he could freeload on a meal from a high-end hotel, he was more than willing. The little unease in his heart instantly vanished, and he said with feigned solemnity.
"In that case, I shall accept your hospitality!"
Yang Ming: "..."
But it did not matter. It was only one meal. The two then headed toward the hotel restaurant.
And so, after many years, Flender once again ate such an expensive breakfast. Looking at the delicious, highly nutritious food Yang Ming had ordered, Flender suddenly recalled the glorious years when the Golden Iron Triangle had roamed the Soul Master World together.
Back then, Flender had also been stingy, but he had a companion who loved to throw around money—Liu Erlong!
A woman who could give away an entire academy was clearly wealthy beyond imagination. That period had not only brought him happiness of the heart—woof, woof, woof—but also material satisfaction.
Seeing Flender eat with the vengeful fervor of a starving ghost reborn, everyone in the restaurant was dumbfounded. Yang Ming regretted it a little too. It was not about the money; it was simply rather embarrassing!
Yang Ming then ordered another serving to be delivered to his room and hurriedly said goodbye to Flender.
After parting with Flender, Yang Ming returned to his own room and ate breakfast while thinking over what had just happened.
Three days later, following Flender's instructions, Yang Ming walked straight out from Suotuo City's southern gate. He passed the broad farmlands on both sides of the official road and continued for a long time before finally seeing a village of around a hundred households. A wooden fence surrounded the village, seemingly meant to keep out wild beasts. Quite a few people had gathered at the village entrance.
Seeing this scene, Yang Ming understood. He had arrived!
But upon truly seeing such a bizarre academy, Yang Ming's expectations of its supposedly exceptional Soul Master education immediately weakened considerably!
A table stood at the village entrance, behind which sat an old man in his sixties. Hanging from the wooden archway at the entrance was a somewhat shabby plaque bearing five simple characters: Shrek Academy. Before those five words was a green portrait that looked like the head of a monster. Green, and somewhat cute. The old man behind the table also wore a similar green circular badge on his chest. It was probably Shrek Academy's emblem.
Yang Ming walked to the back of the line and soon sensed three Youngsters whose Soul Power fluctuations had exceeded level twenty-five. Two of them were even level twenty-nine. Although they could not compare to Yang Ming, judging by the Breaking Clan's standards, those two were top-tier geniuses even stronger than Yang Yi within the Breaking Clan!
Could Shrek Academy actually have something to it? Yang Ming could not help but wonder. Otherwise, what was going on with these three people?
P.S. There will not be much Shrek Academy content. They will not even go to the Star Dou Great Forest to hunt Soul Beasts. In the next arc after Shrek Academy, Yang Ming will meet Ya Li, and his memories will fully return.
