Ch. 41New Body Talent

After surviving a life-and-death battle, Fang Ling gained Warrior's Will Level 1 and recovered under Shimu's care. He reached Soul Power level fifteen, improved his Martial Soul, and considered entering one-against-two matches to earn points more efficiently.

  • Lin Tianyang brought Fang Ling to stay in the guest room, where Fang Ling reflected on his survival and discovered the new Warrior's Will Level 1 talent.
  • Fang Ling realized Warrior's Will helped him endure pain and increased his Soul Power flow speed, complementing his fast reflexes and combat style.
  • Over the next seven days, Shimu's medicinal soup helped Fang Ling recover more than half from his injuries while his teacher arranged leave and reviewed the battle with him.
  • Fang Ling's Scythe Technique felt close to a breakthrough, but he concluded that he needed more practical experience before it would advance.
  • Fang Ling reached Soul Power level fifteen, raised his Martial Soul to Lv2, and learned that its next evolution would cost twenty points.
  • Fang Ling decided to consider one-against-two matches to earn points more efficiently.

Ch. 42Visitors from the City Lord's Mansion

After learning that An Yufei was coming to kill him, Fang Ling planned to turn her attack into compensation for a Storage Soul Tool. An Yufei forced her way into War King Academy, while her brother sent for reinforcements and worried the conflict would escalate.

  • Lin Tianyang and Director Ou warned Fang Ling that An Yufei, Xu Chi's mother, was coming to avenge her son and might be accompanied by the City Lord.
  • Fang Ling learned the dean had defeated the City Lord before and decided to seek compensation rather than involve his teacher and Shimu in a fight.
  • Fang Ling asked about the Academy's defense-type Soul Ancestors and told Director Ou he wanted to extort a high-grade Storage Soul Tool.
  • An Yufei arrived at War King Academy, knocked down the two guards with her Red Feathered Crane martial soul, and flew inside to find Fang Ling.
  • An Yufei's brother ordered the carriage driver to alert the City Lord, dispatched two Spirit Master squads and a healer, and led the remaining soldiers into the Academy.

Ch. 43Acting

Director Ou arranged for Hua Changshou to help Fang Ling bait An Yufei while academy teachers confronted the City Lord’s Mansion forces at the entrance. An Yufei attacked Fang Ling, but Hua Changshou shielded him and helped stage his apparent injury; she was captured after the academy called for her arrest.

  • Director Ou took Fang Ling to Hua Changshou and asked the bald teacher to help with an urgent plan.
  • Liu Yueban confronted Commander An and led the academy teachers in a battle against the City Lord’s Mansion forces.
  • Fang Ling waited in a conspicuous spot with Hua Changshou, and An Yufei spotted him and attacked with Thousand Feathers Barrage.
  • Hua Changshou teleported in front of Fang Ling, blocked most of the attack, and helped make Fang Ling appear gravely injured.
  • Academy staff called for An Yufei to be captured, and she allowed herself to be taken while laughing wildly.

Ch. 44Storage Soul Tool, Frost Snow Ring

After the City Lord’s Mansion attacked the Academy, Dean Lin Yuehua confronted City Lord Xu Tianming and demanded compensation for Fang Ling’s injuries. Xu surrendered his Frost Snow Ring, and the chapter ended with An Yufei released and the City Lord’s party sent away.

  • Lin Yuehua returned to the Academy and stopped the fighting, then learned from Lin Tianyang that the City Lord’s Mansion had attacked Fang Ling.
  • Lin Yuehua accused Xu Tianming of allowing his wife to target Fang Ling and showed him the badly injured student.
  • Xu Tianming acknowledged his household’s fault, while An Yufei urged him to avenge Chi'er and was rebuked.
  • Lin Yuehua demanded a high-grade Storage Soul Tool as compensation, and Xu Tianming agreed to give up his Frost Snow Ring.
  • Xu Tianming returned with the cleared ring, which Lin Yuehua took before releasing An Yufei and sending the City Lord’s party away.

Ch. 45This Disciple Is Mine (Seeking Readership on Tuesday!)

After recovering from his injuries, Fang Ling tested his extraordinary reflexes in a sparring match with principal Lin Yuehua. Lin Yuehua praised him as a combat genius and claimed him as a disciple, prompting Lin Tianyang to protest.

  • The principal returned the Frost Snow Ring to Fang Ling, and the Treatment Room's head reprimanded him for reopening his wounds.
  • Lin Yuehua checked Fang Ling's Soul Power and questioned his rapid advancement through Life and Death Battles.
  • After three days, Fang Ling fully recovered, and Lin Yuehua invited him to spar without using Spirit Skills.
  • Fang Ling used his sickle and quick reflexes to dodge Lin Yuehua's attacks and save himself from a trap.
  • Fang Ling struck Lin Yuehua's arm, and Lin Yuehua praised him as a combat genius and declared, "This disciple is mine!"
  • Lin Tianyang spat out water and protested his father's declaration.

Ch. 46Further Advances in Scythe Technique and Body Technique (Seeking Readership on Tuesday!)

After the principal took charge of Fang Ling’s training, Fang Ling spent two months improving his combat skills and physical strength while planning to claim the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone in the future. His Body Technique reached its current limit because of his missing lower left calf, so he resolved to wait until Tang Hao left the area before seeking the Soul Bone.

  • Lin Yuehua defeated Lin Tianyang and arranged for himself to lead Fang Ling’s training while Lin Tianyang trained alongside them.
  • Over two months of sparring with Lin Tianyang helped Fang Ling advance his Scythe Technique to Level 3 and improve his Combat Experience.
  • With Shigong’s guidance, Fang Ling advanced his Body Technique to Level 3, but his prosthetic leg prevented further progress.
  • Fang Ling identified the likely location of the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone near Holy Soul Village and decided to wait until Tang Hao was away before going there.
  • After revealing that he absorbed energy unusually efficiently, Fang Ling began eating five meals a day and endured harsher training that greatly improved his strength and Endurance.

Ch. 47Twentieth Level

Fang Ling won a two-versus-one Gambling Battle at the Great Soul Arena and neared the twentieth level after months of cultivation. He prepared to leave his academy for a Soul Ring hunt, while his Stats Panel revealed his sickle was close to evolving into a mid-grade Martial Soul.

  • Fang Ling killed the hulking opponent with his sickle, and the smaller Soul Master fled the stage.
  • The host announced Fang Ling’s victory, and Fang Ling collected his reward before returning to the academy with Shimu and Lin Tianyang.
  • Fang Ling told Shimu and Lin Tianyang that he expected to reach the twentieth level in a few days and would soon need to choose a new academy.
  • Fang Ling reviewed his Stats Panel, which showed his Soul Power at level nineteen and his Level 3 sickle nearing evolution.
  • Fang Ling’s determination to cultivate without relying entirely on killing or the Stats Panel strengthened his Warrior’s Will to Lv2.

Ch. 48Prelude to Soul Hunting

Fang Ling rose to Silver Soul Fighter through a string of arena battles, strengthened his abilities, and reached Level 20. Four days later, he joined War King Academy’s soul-hunting expedition to the Star Dou Great Forest, standing out among the graduates gathered for the journey.

  • Fang Ling won ten two-on-one Life and Death Battles before losing to a coordinated married couple, and his accumulated points earned him a Silver Soul Fighter badge.
  • He fought Gambling Battles, lost once to a sharp sword Martial Soul user, then defeated the married couple in a rematch after his Martial Soul and Warrior's Will evolved.
  • Fang Ling spent Progress Bar points to raise his Soul Power to Level 19 and his Soul Ring to 231 years, saving the remaining points to transform his scythe into a longer weapon.
  • Seven days after his final Gambling Battle, Fang Ling broke through to Level 20 and was added to War King Academy’s soul-hunting roster.
  • Four days later, Principal Lin Yuehua and Combat Director Liu Yueban led two teams into the soul hunt, while Fang Ling stood apart from the twenty-three graduates assembled at the academy.

Ch. 49Star Dou Great Forest

Fang Ling and the War King Academy group reached the Star Dou Great Forest to hunt for Second Soul Rings, and his teacher and Shigong promised to seek a powerful Soul Beast suited to his desired abilities. After the group split into smaller teams and entered the forest, they encountered two fighting Soul Beasts, and Fang Ling waited eagerly to learn what Spirit Skill his new ring might grant him.

  • The group rested outside the Star Dou Great Forest while Fang Ling asked for a spatial Spirit Skill, and Lin Tianyang and the dean promised to help him find a strong Soul Beast.
  • Fang Ling shared homemade jerky with the teachers before the two teams split up to avoid attracting too many Soul Beasts.
  • The group entered the dangerous forest in a guarded formation, with Lin Tianyang clearing a path and Fang Ling staying alert for threats.
  • The dean identified a three-hundred-year Raging Mountain Goblin and a seven-hundred-year Vine Feather Sharp Beak Bird fighting nearby, then sent Lin Tianyang to capture the bird.
  • The dean told Fang Ling the bird was not strong enough for him and said he had several better Soul Beast prospects in mind.

Ch. 50Spiked Blood Dragonfly

Fang Ling killed a venomous snake during the spirit hunt and later joined the group in searching for a suitable Soul Beast. The dean identified a Spiked Blood Dragonfly as a promising target for Fang Ling, while Lin Tianyang explained that gaining a blood- and Soul Power-absorbing skill would not make him a Fallen Spirit Master unless he used it to commit harm.

  • A Leopard Cat Soul Master absorbed the green ostrich's Soul Ring and advanced to Two-Ring Great Spirit Master.
  • A Black Striped Green Branch Snake ambushed Fang Ling, who killed it with his scythe before it could bite him.
  • Lin Tianyang warned the group to watch above and below for dangerous Spirit Beasts, and the group camped overnight as darkness fell.
  • Two days later, the dean showed Fang Ling a Spiked Blood Dragonfly feeding on a Triangle Azure Ox and identified it as a suitable Soul Beast.
  • Lin Tianyang explained that absorbing blood and Soul Power did not make someone a Fallen Spirit Master unless they harmed Soul Masters or the world.

Ch. 51Cursed Blade

Fang Ling learned how Spirit Hall judged Fallen Spirit Masters and discussed possible Soul Skills with Lin Tianyang before hunting a Spiked Blood Dragonfly. He absorbed its Soul Ring and gained Cursed Blade, an attack-enhancing skill.

  • Lin Tianyang explained that Spirit Masters with evil aura could still be considered good if their Soul Power was pure and they avoided harming people or cultivating through souls.
  • Lin Tianyang described the benefits of attack-enhancing and blood- or Soul Power-absorbing Spirit Skills, and Fang Ling considered how those abilities could help him in future battles.
  • The dean scouted the area, then used his fifth Spirit Skill to scatter the Triangle Azure Oxen and drive off the Spiked Blood Dragonflies.
  • The dean killed a seven-hundred-year-old Spiked Blood Dragonfly and held it down while Fang Ling delivered the finishing slash.
  • Fang Ling absorbed the Soul Ring, discovered that Digestion improved his Soul Power absorption, and gained Cursed Blade, which made his next scythe attack deal two hundred and fifty percent damage.

Ch. 52Martial Soul Evolution, Long-Handled Battle Scythe

After absorbing a hundred-year Spiked Blood Dragonfly soul ring, Fang Ling gained new abilities and used 30 Points to evolve his scythe into a long-handled battle weapon. As War King Academy’s hunting party searched for more spirit beasts, a roar from the forest triggered a Beast Tide, forcing the dean to lead everyone out.

  • Fang Ling gained Cursed Blade, Weakness Detection, and Drain from his new soul ring.
  • Fang Ling spent 30 Points to evolve his Agricultural Scythe into a Long-Handled Battle Scythe, stunning the dean and Lin Tianyang.
  • Lin Tianyang praised the new weapon and offered to help Fang Ling redesign his fighting style after they returned.
  • Fang Ling urged the teachers to continue helping the other students hunt spirit beasts before discussing his weapon.
  • A roar from the forest caused the beasts to panic and flee, creating a small-scale Beast Tide.
  • The dean ordered the hunting party to follow him as he cleared a way out of the forest.

Ch. 53Solitary Journey

Fang Ling was separated from the academy group during a Beast Tide and fought his way through the forest alone while using the danger to strengthen his Martial Soul. After two days of escape, he was pursued by a One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope.

  • A Ten Thousand Year Earth Dragon King attacked the group, and the dean stayed behind to fight it while Lin Tianyang led everyone toward Soul Hunting Town.
  • Fang Ling was targeted by long-range attacks from a Thousand-Year Soul Beast and became separated from the hunting group after urging Lin Tianyang to continue without him.
  • Fang Ling used his scythe and agility to flee through the forest, relying on his supplies and abilities to survive alone.
  • Fang Ling traveled through areas inhabited by Ten-Year and Hundred-Year Soul Beasts, killed eight of them, and put the points he earned into his Martial Soul, leaving ten points until its evolution.
  • At dawn, Fang Ling encountered a One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope, which charged him and pursued him through the forest.

Ch. 54Counter-Kill

Fang Ling repeatedly fled the One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope, then used a crack in a mountain to trap and kill it. He survived the encounter and gained a chance to continue earning Points in the Star Dou Great Forest.

  • Fang Ling escaped the One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope after it pursued him through the forest and smashed trees with its powerful charges.
  • The antelope found Fang Ling again twice, forcing him to flee while he searched for terrain that could trap it.
  • Fang Ling spotted a deep crack in a rocky hill and adjusted his route to lure the charging antelope into it.
  • Fang Ling climbed the rock wall as the One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope became stuck in the crevice.
  • Fang Ling used Weakness Detection to locate the antelope's vulnerable points, then struck its rear with his Cursed Blade and killed it.

Ch. 55External Soul Bone

After killing a One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope, Fang Ling discovered it had dropped an External Soul Bone and absorbed the bone in a secluded tree. He successfully gained a new ability, then checked the changes to his Stats Panel.

  • Fang Ling confirmed the One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope was dead and dissected it, finding a right foot bone with the signs of an External Soul Bone.
  • Fang Ling stored the soul bone and left the bloody area to find a safe place to absorb it.
  • Fang Ling checked his insect- and snake-repelling powders, then began absorbing the One-Eyed Giant Horn Antelope Right Foot Bone atop a tree.
  • Fang Ling endured the bone's heat and resistance until he subdued its will and completed the absorption.
  • Fang Ling summoned a keratin layer over his right foot, destroyed his shoe, and stopped himself from kicking in the dangerous forest.
  • Fang Ling checked his Stats Panel and saw his Soul Power increase, the soul bone appear in his inventory, and a new specialty get added.

Ch. 56Preparing to Leave

After absorbing the One-Eyed Giant Horned Goat Right Leg Bone, Fang Ling gained the Explosion talent and strengthened Warrior's Will, while his hidden Special Talent began to show signs of fusing. He raised his Martial Soul to Lv4 and decided to leave the Star Dou Great Forest with his gains.

  • Fang Ling learned that the thousand-year Soul Bone granted the Lv3 Explosion Body Talent and that the beast’s lingering resentment had tempered his spiritual will, raising Warrior's Will to Lv3.
  • Fang Ling saw that his hidden Special Talent had changed to “Special Talent (Fusing):” but decided to wait for more information.
  • Fang Ling killed two Hundred-Year Soul Beasts and raised his Long-Handled Battle Scythe to Lv4, removing the “pseudo” label from its level.
  • Fang Ling reviewed his gains, including the Cursed Blade soul skill and the One-Eyed Giant Horned Goat Right Leg Bone, then decided to leave the Star Dou Great Forest and return to his teacher and companions.

Ch. 57Unlucky (Additional rules at the end of the chapter)

After gaining an External Soul Bone and upgrading his sickle, Fang Ling encountered a two-thousand-year Giant Multi-Legged Sky Dragon and fled when it attacked. His speed and weapon could not match the poisonous Soul Beast, and he searched desperately for another powerful creature that might give him a chance to escape.

  • Fang Ling traveled through the forest, benefiting from his strengthened right leg and gaining six more points as he reached an area of Ten-Year Soul Beasts.
  • Fang Ling noticed the forest had fallen silent and detected a poisonous fragrance that made him dizzy and weak.
  • Fang Ling spotted a twenty-meter Giant Multi-Legged Sky Dragon, recognized it as a two-thousand-year Soul Beast, and tried to retreat without disturbing it.
  • The Giant Multi-Legged Sky Dragon pursued Fang Ling, who summoned his Battle Scythe Spirit and struck it with Cursed Blade but was overpowered.
  • Fang Ling recalled his damaged sickle and ran, relying on his External Soul Bone while hoping to find another Thousand-Year Soul Beast.

Ch. 58Desperate Struggle

Fang Ling was pushed to the brink while fighting the Giant Multi-Legged Sky Dragon, and he prepared to gamble everything on a desperate strike. A young girl ordered Uncle Li to save him, but Fang Ling launched his attack before he knew help was coming.

  • Fang Ling endured repeated clashes with the Giant Multi-Legged Sky Dragon as his Great Scythe broke and his injuries worsened.
  • Fang Ling considered using Absorption to survive and decided to make one final gamble with the Soul Power he had left.
  • Uncle Li and a young girl watched from a concealed tree, and the girl ordered Uncle Li to rescue Fang Ling.
  • Fang Ling stopped defending and aimed his attack at the Giant Multi-Legged Sky Dragon's exposed mouthparts.

Ch. 59Opening My Eyes to See a Cat (Seeking Readership on Tuesday!)

Fang Ling used his last strength to attack a massive centipede, but a Black Cat Spirit Soul Master named Old Li saved him and brought him to Zhu Zhuqing’s group. After waking under Mei Yi’s healing, Fang Ling met Zhu Zhuqing and sensed that their Martial Souls might share a fusion skill.

  • Fang Ling thrust his broken sickle at the charging centipede, pouring his remaining Soul Power into the strike.
  • Old Li stopped Fang Ling’s sickle, slammed the centipede into the ground, and killed it before catching the exhausted Fang Ling.
  • Old Li brought Fang Ling to Zhu Zhuqing’s group, where Mei Yi used her healing Martial Soul to treat his injuries.
  • Zhu Zhuqing sensed a brief tremor from her Martial Soul while studying Fang Ling and wondered if they could possess a Martial Soul Fusion Skill.
  • Fang Ling woke as Zhu Zhuqing touched his forehead, introduced himself, and then recognized her name and sensed a tremor from his Scythe Martial Soul.

Ch. 60Thinking (Seeking Readership on Tuesday!)

After Zhu Zhuqing saved Fang Ling, he suspected their Martial Souls might be compatible despite their apparent differences. He resolved to pursue a future Spirit Fusion with her and eventually take her away from her dangerous fate, while deciding to investigate the mysterious power behind their connection.

  • Fang Ling questioned whether his Martial Soul had stirred when he and Zhu Zhuqing made eye contact, and thanked her and the Black-Clad Man for saving him.
  • Zhu Zhuqing said she had ordered his rescue because he looked pitiful and his will had moved her, while Fang Ling promised to repay her kindness.
  • Fang Ling planned to obtain a Soul Bone, wait for Shrek's term to begin, and later take Zhu Zhuqing away from the Star Luo Zhu Family.
  • Fang Ling recalled Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong'er's Martial Soul fusion and concluded that some higher power might be enabling his connection with Zhu Zhuqing.
  • Fang Ling wondered whether the power involved was related to death and decided to investigate further once he became a Soul Elder.
