"How could this be? How could the German fleet appear there? The Americans are their true arch-enemy!" Admiral John Tovey wore an expression of utter disbelief, as though he still could not accept the fact.
Although the British Royal Navy had now recovered much of its strength, and could no longer dominate the world's oceans as it had before the previous World War, it was at least the fourth strongest naval power in the world, behind only Germany, the United States, and the Island Nation.
Even so, Admiral John Tovey did not believe the British Royal Navy had the ability to contend with the German Navy. Compared to them, the German Navy was undoubtedly far stronger. It possessed enough power to wipe out the British Navy in one stroke.
"Commander, this was information our submarine sent back at the risk of its life. After transmitting this telegram, we lost contact with them. There is a very strong possibility that they have already been sunk by the Germans," the staff officer reported.
Admiral John Tovey nodded. He knew that, no matter what, they could not doubt information obtained by naval officers and sailors at the risk of their lives. But this was too great a matter for him to reach a conclusion lightly.
"Send a telegram to the Naval Ministry immediately and report this intelligence. Also, have the base at Newfoundland launch aircraft and focus the search on the waters southeast of Greenland. We must find the German fleet!" Admiral John Tovey ordered.
"Yes, Commander." The staff officer immediately went to make the arrangements.
Newfoundland was not far from the waters southeast of Greenland, but it was still beyond the flight radius of fighters. Although the British Navy had equipped itself with many P-51 fighters jointly developed with the United States,
