"Gentlemen, how did this happen? Hadn't everyone previously concluded that the Germans would attack the Caribbean Sea? But now, the Germans have given us another resounding slap across the face! They actually attacked Newfoundland." President Roosevelt looked utterly furious.
This was an emergency meeting convened by the US Army Staff Department, attended by all the Army's principal generals.
The US Army had also been greatly shocked to learn that the German military had actually landed on Newfoundland. It was not merely because so many people had been slapped in the face. More importantly, the German operation had already created a lethal threat to the United States.
"Mr. President, I am deeply sorry. The Germans were too cunning, so we fell into their trap once again." General Marshall's face was full of shame.
As the saying went, a man could not stumble in the same place twice. Yet the United States had been deceived by the Germans more than twice already. No one knew whether the Germans were simply too cunning, or whether they themselves were too foolish.
"Mr. President, there is no use pursuing responsibility now. The most crucial question is how we can withstand the German attack. Once the Germans take Newfoundland, we will be in even greater danger." Secretary Henry Stilson said.
President Roosevelt nodded. "General Marshall, what does the Army intend to do?"
"Mr. President, we must hold Newfoundland. Or rather, not only must we withstand the German attack on Newfoundland, we must also drive them into the sea and make them smash their heads until they bleed on Newfoundland." General Marshall said.
President Roosevelt could not help frowning. "Can that be achieved?"
