Background / History
Mikoto was orphaned in childhood. She became a combat-type jonin before retiring to support Fugaku and raise their sons, Itachi and Sasuke 353 354 614. As the Clan Head’s wife, she attended clan meetings, though important Uchiha secrets were kept from both her and Fugaku 205 216 234.
Uchiha Asuka repeatedly proposed that Fugaku divorce her as part of the clan’s efforts to produce a Hokage. Mikoto opposed the proposal, particularly because it threatened to leave her sons in a single-parent household 4 58 213. After learning that multiple Mangekyō Sharingan users had appeared during the Nine-Tailed Night, she suspected the Uchiha Hawks of dangerous ambitions. She kept her suspicions from Fugaku and the village for fear of provoking conflict 216.
During a visit to Asuka’s home, a system scroll led Asuka to believe that Mikoto was his summoned mother. Mikoto realized he had mistaken her for someone else and played along to question him about his divorce proposal 353 354 360.
After two years of arguments with Fugaku, Mikoto publicly announced her intention to divorce him. Footage from another world showing the Uchiha Clan’s destruction helped solidify her decision; she stopped the recording before it revealed Itachi’s role in that future 621. The divorce subsequently took place, and Mikoto moved next door to Asuka 624.
