Background / History

Madara led the Uchiha Clan during the Warring States Period. While focusing on surpassing Hashirama Senju and defeating the Senju, he entrusted clan affairs to Izuna, Uchiha Ryo Dai, and Uchiha Hiyoku. All three died before Konoha’s founding, followed by the remaining clansmen willing to fight beside him; Madara consequently lost the clan’s support despite remaining Clan Head in name. 495

Izuna’s death was particularly decisive. Izuna refused treatment in order to sever Madara’s intention to cooperate with the Senju, yet Madara ultimately buried his grief and founded Konoha alongside Hashirama for peace in the ninja world. He later lost to Hashirama, faked his death at the Valley of the End, and disappeared from public view for decades. 18 495

During his years in secrecy, Madara gained Hashirama’s power, awakening the Rinnegan through the fusion of Indra’s and Asura’s inherited powers. He pursued the Eye of the Moon Plan and established layers of control over Obito, including a restriction placed in Obito’s heart and a will intended to supervise him. 733 788

Near the end of his life, Madara returned to Konoha as a frail old man. Personality

Madara is intensely proud, competitive, and contemptuous of opponents he considers unworthy. His fixation on Hashirama defines much of his behavior: even after decades apart, he regards a contest with Hashirama as more worthwhile than fighting the Five Kage. 753 749
