Background
Asuka is a transmigrator who retained memories from another world. His grandfather died after entering Konoha alongside Uchiha Madara, while the Second Shinobi World War left Asuka as the last surviving member of his immediate family when he was still a child 1.
He grew up within the Uchiha Clan and became unusually precocious: he could read and write at one, had read most clan books by two, and publicly claimed at three to possess the mindset of a Hokage. The declaration backfired when he was exposed as a clan supremacist, shaping his reputation within the village and clan 291.
At eighteen, Asuka was already a jonin and a vocal proponent of the “Uchiha Divorce Faction.” He argued that Fugaku and Mikoto should divorce so Fugaku could pursue a marriage alliance with Tsunade, creating descendants with a stronger claim to the Hokage position and improving Uchiha standing in Konoha 4. His advocacy repeatedly placed him in conflict with Mikoto and alienated Itachi.
Appearance
Asuka is a conventionally handsome Uchiha with thick black hair, dark eyes, bold brows, and sharply defined features. He is often seen in a neat Uchiha Clan uniform and can present a markedly more imposing bearing when he drops his usual lazy demeanor 481 533 686.
- Black hair and dark eyes.
- Frequently wears the Uchiha fan crest.
- Has used freckles and altered clothing as part of a disguise 533.
- Wore blue earrings and smoked cigars while attending the Five Kage gathering in Kumogakure 686.
Personality
Asuka is calculating, irreverent, and willing to use uncomfortable social proposals as political tools. His plans commonly center on elevating the Uchiha Clan’s status, obtaining a Hokage, and building advantageous inter-clan alliances. He pressures others into supporting these goals through charm, deception, selective truths, and arguments framed around the Will of Fire 4 23 29 326.
Despite his reputation for ruthlessness and bizarre ideas, he consistently avoids killing Konoha shinobi when possible. He uses psychological pressure rather than direct interrogation, treats civilians and injured ninja without charge, and helps villagers with medical care and home repairs 9 337 551. His compassion can be intense and unconventional; when he encountered an abused woman left to die, he accepted her posthumous commission and set out to punish her abusers 260.
Asuka is deeply attached to the Uchiha’s future and to Uchiha Madara personally. He initially joined the Eye of the Moon Plan after witnessing the clan’s destruction in another future, but later stated that he wanted Madara to confront the truth rather than merely be stopped or delayed 608 794.
Abilities & Skills
Mangekyō Sharingan
Asuka possesses the Mangekyō Sharingan, though repeated use rapidly damages his eyesight and risks eventual blindness 104 130.
- Can restrain Ichikishimahime through his Mangekyō ocular power 141.
- His Mangekyō ability is associated with the Transcription Seal, whose activation condition is drawing his sword 104.
- His visual condition deteriorates quickly enough for Madara and Spiral Zetsu to discuss possible solutions 130.
- He can manifest a Susanoo, described as a conspicuously bright pale-cyan giant 148 596.
Fire and Wind Release
Asuka combines Fire Release and Wind Release for large-scale destructive attacks.
- Burned a Hōzuki special jonin to death with Fire Release during the Land of Water mission 51.
- Combined Fire and Wind Release with Shukaku against Orochimaru, creating a massive explosion 92.
- Covered much of an Uchiha street with a crimson canopy of fire during his battle with Orochimaru 93.
- Defeated Uchiha Yuta with a combined technique alongside Shukaku 58.
Medical Ninjutsu
Asuka is a capable medical-ninjutsu practitioner whose controversial research interest is sterilization and tubal ligation 482.
- Stopped Iruka’s bleeding with a healing technique during a bathhouse bombing 25.
- Was tested and accepted as Tsunade’s student after demonstrating his medical skill 175.
- Has treated civilians for free and personally paid medical expenses for others 337 551.
- Resurrected Nagato with forbidden Medical Ninjutsu 789.
- His medical specialization was rejected by Tsunade for its controversial implications, despite the Medical Department vice minister recognizing his talent 482.
Swordsmanship and Close Combat
Asuka is a proficient swordsman and close-range fighter.
- Sliced Manda in half; Ryūchi Cave later confirmed that Manda survived 139.
- Uses sword-drawing as the trigger for his Transcription Seal 104.
- Defeated an Earth Release user by kicking into the ground hard enough to kill him through the resulting impact 51.
- Fought Orochimaru to a standstill using swordsmanship, ninjutsu, taijutsu, and medical techniques 93.
Movement and Transformation
- Uses the Body Flicker Technique for rapid repositioning 29 36.
- Studied the Transformation Technique to avoid becoming an easy target and later infiltrated the Land of Lightning while disguised as Iruka 427.
Summoning and Sage-Location Connections
Asuka has close ties to Ryūchi Cave and several unusual summoned companions.
- Shukaku — A restricted juvenile One-Tail obtained from a system reward; serves as Asuka’s summon and combat partner 54 92.
- Ichikishimahime — A Ryūchi Cave figure whom Asuka can summon and employ as a Susanoo-like entity, despite her hostility toward the arrangement 141.
- Fei Fei — The Orange Cat, a summon and frequent confidant who accompanies Asuka on missions 410.
- Ryūchi Cave recognizes an affinity between the Uchiha and the sage location, with both sides agreeing to assist one another for mutual benefit 410.
System
Asuka possesses a mission-based system that provides assignments and rewards.
- The system was originally described as Sasuke’s Counterattack System, but identifies Asuka as its host 4 353.
- Rewarded him after he defeated Uchiha Naoki and assigned him to befriend Nara Shikamaru 10.
- Provided the container that released juvenile Shukaku 54.
- Rewarded him with a genjutsu-training scroll and a one-day summoning scroll for his deceased mother 351 353.
- Its mission timing does not always align with reality, which Asuka openly criticizes 351.
Equipment
- Sword — Used in combat and as the activation trigger for his Transcription Seal 104.
- Akatsuki ring — Used to receive the summons that brought him to the Akatsuki hideout 644.
- Uchiha Clan uniform — Commonly worn, bearing the Uchiha fan crest 441 686.
Relationships
- Uchiha Madara — Mentor, distant relative, and the central figure in Asuka’s long-term schemes. Madara taught him before his death; Asuka later worked to resurrect him and make his life “sweeter” 99 789.
- Uchiha Ryoichi — Elder, neighbor, and familial guardian figure. Ryoichi knew Asuka’s mother, supports him, and is closely involved in his affairs 175 352.
- Uchiha Mikoto — Long-standing adversary. Asuka’s advocacy for her divorce from Fugaku destabilized her family, and the two frequently argue or fight 4 91 360.
- Uchiha Itachi — Fellow clansman whom Asuka tried to persuade to support Fugaku and Mikoto’s divorce. Their relationship remains strained by Asuka’s influence on Itachi and the Clan Head’s family 4 351.
- Tsunade — Medical mentor and frequent opponent. She accepted him as a student after testing his medical skills, but remains suspicious of his motives and regularly clashes with him 175 686.
- Pakura — Sunagakure kunoichi and close companion. Their bond developed through joint travel and Akatsuki involvement 36 128 644.
- Konan — Ally and traveling companion who gradually comes to recognize Asuka’s compassion 128 260.
- Kushina Uzumaki — Close companion whom Asuka revived. Their relationship is sufficiently intimate to fuel persistent suspicion from others 226 644.
- Shukaku — Restricted juvenile One-Tail and combat partner; the two coordinate combination ninjutsu 54 58.
- Ichikishimahime — Ryūchi Cave summon forcibly bound to Asuka’s Mangekyō-based control, creating a hostile but significant partnership 141.
- Uzuki Yugao — Former student from another world. Asuka treats her with paternal concern and seeks to bless her before returning home 527.
- Nagato — Resurrected by Asuka, then persuaded to use Rinne Rebirth in exchange for the prospect of reviving Yahiko 789.
- Black Zetsu — Eye of the Moon Plan contact who admitted Asuka after reviewing proof of the Uchiha Clan’s future destruction 608.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Uchiha Divorce Faction
Asuka enters the story as an orphaned Uchiha jonin and champion of an extreme political proposal: Fugaku’s divorce from Mikoto and a marriage alliance with Tsunade. He presents the plan as a route to producing an Uchiha Hokage and integrating the clan more securely into Konoha 4.
Konoha Service and Anbu
While serving Konoha, Asuka teaches younger Uchiha, defeats Root operatives without killing them, and extracts intelligence through a coerced game of Rock Paper Scissors 9 10. Fugaku subsequently places him in Anbu to represent the clan’s interests from within the organization 33.
Ryūchi Cave and Madara
Asuka obtains Shukaku, clashes with Orochimaru, and draws the attention of Ryūchi Cave through his unusual fate 54 92 139. Madara later becomes his teacher and adviser, particularly regarding the costs of Mangekyō use 99 130.
Political Alliances
Asuka repeatedly seeks to strengthen the Uchiha through outside alliances. He negotiates with the Nara, proposes a secretary connected to the Utatane Clan for Fugaku, and offers an alliance between the Uchiha and Mabui’s clan in the Land of Lightning 23 326 441.
Akatsuki and the Eye of the Moon Plan
Asuka joins Akatsuki after capturing the One-Tail and participates in its sealing 644. He later reveals that he entered the Eye of the Moon Plan after seeing the future destruction of the Uchiha Clan, though his deeper purpose was to force Madara to confront the consequences of his path 608 794.
Fourth Shinobi World War
During the war, Asuka offers medical help to injured ninja, confronts Madara’s side of the conflict, resurrects Nagato, and arranges for Madara’s revival through Rinne Rebirth 751 789. When Infinite Tsukuyomi is cast, he explains to the Six Paths Sage that Madara’s plan would have proceeded even without his support and that stopping it prematurely would not resolve its underlying cause 794.
Trivia
- Asuka’s controversial interest in sterilization began with a cat belonging to Ryoichi that repeatedly bred on his roof 482.
- He is known for distributing fried chicken, including compensating a bystander after falling from the sky and dirtying the man’s meal 337.
- His system briefly summoned his deceased mother for one day; she closely resembles Uchiha Mikoto in appearance and voice 353 354.
- He has a notably poor reputation within the Clan Head’s household but a strong public reputation among civilians and several outsiders 337 523.
