Good News, Bai Hermione
Wizards could form a wondrous bond with pets—magical pets, so to speak.
When the relationship between master and servant was established, this primitive contract formed by magic power was signed.
It was a bit like when a little wizard went to buy a wand...
He originally had no money to buy an Owl, but now that he had Anzu, Ted felt pretty good about it.
Though it would still be more than half a month before Anzu could fly, how did that saying go? Raise it from a young age, and it would be easier to handle later~ These past few days, Ted had been studying the Basic Movement Charm, the foundational charm for moving objects with magic power. Spells like the Summoning Charm and Landing Charm all stemmed from this Basic Movement Charm.
At school, purely theoretical charms like this generally were not taught until the third or fourth year.
Wizards were not scholars, after all. Most of the time, they only knew how to cast a particular spell, without understanding its theory or foundations.
It was a very idealistic way of casting magic.
Another week passed, and with less than half a month left before school started, Ted felt he needed to make more preparations.
Mainly, he needed to get some money.
Before, money had only been one reason for working. The main reason had been to gain experience through the wizarding world.
Now that August's Otherworldly Knowledge was the Chakra Refining Technique, Ted had given up on redeeming it, so there was no longer such an urgent need.
So he planned to make some money.
As a new Hogwarts student, Ted had a "foreign exchange quota." He could exchange Pound Sterling for Galleons, which was much easier than earning Galleons directly in Diagon Alley.
Back then, Ted could make ten or twenty Pound Sterling a day from busking, equivalent to four or five Galleons! So, after vanishing for over a month, the little street performer Ted had returned like a king! This time, Ted had upgraded his gear as well. Though Old Guitar still looked just as weathered, Ted had repaired it with the Mending Charm, and its tone had improved greatly.
Ted's outfit now looked much more convincing too. At his side was a clever little Raven, cawing to draw in spectators and helping with the act.
Whenever it picked up a coin tipped by the audience and dropped it into the guitar case, it could draw a round of applause.
The people of Great Britain had never seen a little bird draw lots and tell fortunes~ And after Ted mastered magic, he could perform "street magic" in addition to busking. His range of services instantly doubled.
He alternated between singing and magic tricks so the audience would not get tired of either.
He really could perform some magic tricks. Of course, mixed in were basic wandless spells. For example, shooting out a playing card and making it circle around him.
Never mind that his wand had not yet been bound by the Trace—if a passing wizard became suspicious, Ted could explain it away with his sleight-of-hand.
"It's all magic tricks, just deceptive illusions for a bit of fun, sir!"
I might not have the nerve to use magic openly, but I definitely had the nerve to play magic under the guise of tricks—and plenty of it!
And sure enough, business was good.
He made more than thirty Pound Sterling on the first day, and there were even more people on the second...
After a week, Ted had actually become a small local attraction. Performing for three or four hours a day, he could draw forty or fifty onlookers.
Ted wore a Top Hat and a secondhand tailcoat that was too small for him. A young Raven perched on his shoulder, and he held a battered wooden guitar in his arms... With that look alone, anyone passing by had to stop and take a curious glance.
Not to mention that he played well, sang beautifully, and performed magic that made the audience cry out in amazement. Raven Anzu was even more incredible, cooperating with the act as though it could understand human speech.
If he kept this up for another ten days or half a month, he might even become famous.
He had already made over three hundred Pound Sterling. Converted to Galleons, that would not only be enough to repay his student loan, but would leave him with quite a bit left over. The only problem was that his exchange quota probably was not that high.
Ted planned to perform one last day, then leave.
Though he had an excuse and would not be held accountable by the Ministry of Magic, it was best not to cause trouble.
If things really blew up, it would not be good for him.
"Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for your encouragement. Since I'll be starting school soon, today may be my final performance. If fate allows it, we'll meet again on the streets."
"There are so many towns in the world, and so many streets in those towns, yet you chose to linger before me... This song, 'Casablanca,' is for everyone~"
Bette Midler wrote this song in the 1970s after being moved by the film of the same name.
The film told the story of how, after the outbreak of World War II, countless Europeans fled their countries to escape the iron hoof of fascism. Casablanca, a city in northern Morocco, became an important transit point between Europe and the United States.
At Rick's Bar in that small city, a love triangle unfolded between people who had been separated for years before meeting again...
Love, hatred, separation, and reunion in times of war—a theme that never grew old.
It gave voice to the feelings of countless people forced into helpless farewells. The song was filled with complex emotions of nostalgia, remembrance, and longing. Its feelings were sincere, and its melody was beautiful.
Both the film and the song were classics. On these ancient streets of London, the song carried an indescribable sentiment.
Ted picked up his guitar and began to sing.
His childish voice carried a weathered quality that did not belong to someone his age. "I fell in love with you while watching 'Casablanca.'
Back then, the lights flickered in the back row of the drive-in theater. Under the Starlight, popcorn and cola became champagne and caviar.
We fell in love on a long, sweltering summer night.
I think you fell in love with me too while watching 'Casablanca.'
Holding hands beneath the ceiling fan in Rick's candlelit café, hiding in the shadows from spies. The Moroccan moonlight reflected in your eyes, working its magic with the movie in my old Chevrolet. Oh! A Casablanca kiss still remains. Please come back to me, in Casablanca.
As time goes by, I'll love you more with every passing day..."
The classic song earned countless rounds of applause, along with tips from kind-hearted ladies and young women.
Hmm~ A girl around Ted's age had actually thrown in a five-pound note! Ah, praise be to you, kind and generous miss. May you have no troubles, and may you be healthy and happy~ Soon, Ted began performing magic again—playing cards, ribbons, roses, making Anzu vanish from his hat and reappear again.
The spectators stared wide-eyed, unwilling to miss even the slightest movement, but they could not find a single flaw.
Ted's magic always surpassed their imagination.
That kind and generous little girl once again wheedled a banknote from her helpless father and tossed it into Ted's guitar case.
Ted had no choice but to show his appreciation. One hand waved in front of him, blocking the audience's view and drawing their attention, while his other hand snapped his fingers. A tiny wildflower appeared in his palm.
He handed the flower to the little girl, then spun and bowed to the audience before packing up.
Happy times were always too brief. It was time to say goodbye again. Sayonara~
After Ted left, the audience dispersed as well.
The father and daughter returned to their car and drove home.
On the way, the little girl still had not calmed down from the excitement of watching the performance.
"Dad!"
"Hmm?"
"He sings so well."
"Yeah, it was very moving." The strange thing was that weathered feeling in his voice. It did not seem like something a child should have.
The little girl clenched her fists excitedly. "Dad, how do you think he did those magic tricks? Could it have been magic too? But I didn't see his wand! I wonder if Hogwarts teaches that?!"
As he drove, her father comforted her. "It will, it will. Once you get to Hogwarts, write home often. If you can't adapt, you can always come back and attend middle school. Don't force yourself."
But the little girl was immersed in the mysteries of magic. "I won't, Dad! Hogwarts will definitely be the best school."
"All right, sit tight. We're almost home, Hermione."
So the "kind and generous little girl" was Hermione Granger.
If Ted had known, he definitely would have breathed a sigh of relief—thank goodness, Bai Hermione.
Though Ted felt he was already immune to anything, if Hermione had been dark, ugly, and fat...
Ted might have become a Dark Wizard—destroy it all! This detestable wizarding world.
