Which Card Should I Choose? Until the gathering ended and they all returned to their Common Rooms, Ted remained the center of everyone's attention. They wanted to look but did not dare to, terrified of being caught staring. Whenever Ted looked back, they quickly turned away, afraid their eyes might meet.
Students: One look was enough to confirm it—he was a big shot! Better not mess with him!
After the banquet ended, the students of each House followed their prefects back to their dormitories.
Ravenclaw's Common Room was farther away than those of the other three Houses. It was not near the Main Tower courtyard, but in a tower among the Astronomy Tower complex across the stone bridge.
Whether ravens or eagles, they had to live somewhere high up. Nothing wrong with that.
But did Ravenclaw's Common Room really need to be this high? After climbing what felt like more than ten flights of stairs, Ted nearly threw up his dinner before finally seeing the iconic bronze eagle door.
The Common Rooms of the four Houses each had their own gatekeeper.
Lion House had a portrait that required a password.
Slytherin had a magical door that also required a password.
Hufflepuff had a row of wooden barrels that required a particular rhythm of knocks.
Ravenclaw, meanwhile, had a huge bronze eagle on its door. You had to answer its question correctly before it would open.
At the very top of Ravenclaw Tower, the exhausted first-years stood before an ancient wooden door polished smooth by time. A huge bronze eagle sat on it, its talons clutching a door knocker.
Ravenclaw's female prefect, Penelope Clearwater, pointed at the bronze ring. "Knock on it, and the bronze eagle will ask you a question. The door will open once you answer correctly. We welcome any visitors, so long as they can answer the question." She looked proud. In reality, Ravenclaw students often got trapped outside their own door, because the bronze eagle's questions kept up with the times and were constantly updated.
Over the past thousand years, the question bank had grown enormous. It covered everything from astronomy and geography to brainteasers.
"Knock, knock, knock~" The door knocker rang.
The bronze eagle turned its head and looked at them. "Between ghosts and Peeves, who has the longer lifespan?"
"Ghosts, because Peeves was never truly alive."
"That makes sense. Click~"
Penelope answered the bronze eagle's question, and the door opened. The students filed inside.
Ravenclaw's Common Room was a large circular chamber, draped everywhere in blue and bronze silk. Elegant arched windows lined the walls, allowing Ravenclaw students to look out upon the beautiful scenery.
The ceiling was a domed arch studded with stars, while the dark blue carpet below was studded with stars as well.
Tables, chairs, and bookshelves stood around the room. In the niche opposite the door was a white marble bust of Rowena Ravenclaw.
On either side of the statue was a staircase leading to the boys' and girls' dormitories...
Come to think of it, Eagle House was pretty interesting too, though no particularly outstanding figures emerged from it during the original seven years.
Ted had seen a certain interpretation in his previous life.
The original Ravenclaw motto was: Wit beyond measure is men's greatest treasure. The usual translation was: Exceptional wisdom is mankind's greatest treasure.
But! But! But!
Here came the important part: during the period when Shakespeare was admired and wildly popular, the word "wit" could refer to a man's dick.
Surprised? Unexpected?!
And now, here came a brand-new interpretation of the motto! Beyond measure could mean beyond measurable limits, implying exceptional length.
Men did not merely refer broadly to humanity. Another equally common meaning was males.
So after reinterpreting and translating the whole sentence, it became this: An extra-long dick is a man's greatest treasure.
Mm~ Nothing wrong with that! A seemingly philosophical sentence hid a dirty joke! That was so Ravenclaw! This time, Ted could not hold it in and laughed aloud.
Hermione beside him asked, "What are you laughing at?"
There was no way he could tell her that kind of joke! So Ted could only change the subject. "I thought of something funny... By the way, how much do you know about Lady Ravenclaw?"
The best way to deal with Hermione was to use knowledge to change the subject.
Either tell her something she did not know, or ask her about something she did know.
Like now, she had already begun enthusiastically recounting everything she knew about Lady Ravenclaw.
After a whole day of fussing about, everyone was tired, and it was getting late.
Ted said goodbye to Hermione. They each climbed separate staircases and returned to their dormitories.
Fortunately, Ravenclaw's dormitories were at least in a tower, unlike Slytherin and Hufflepuff, which were both in the basement—letting them experience the life of living in a cramped northern flat right here in the Scottish Highlands.
There were nine Ravenclaw students in this year.
There were four boys, so naturally they shared one dormitory.
The dormitory contained four four-poster beds, where curtains or mosquito nets could be hung. Each bed had a bronze nameplate bearing a Little Wizard's name. Their luggage had already been placed beside the beds, and after a quick inspection, they shoved it underneath.
Anzu was in the dormitory as well.
Although Hogwarts had an Owl, ravens and owls did not get along at all. Naturally, Anzu would not stay in such a place.
He was currently hanging upside down from a curtain and playing with a glass bead Ted had given him.
Corvid big shots all loved shiny things.
"What are you looking at? Caw!" He suddenly snapped at one of the boys, startling the boy who had been watching him.
"Y-you can talk?"
"Can't you? Caw~" Anzu began chatting with him as naturally as anything.
Because he had been talking with Hermione, Ted was the last one back.
When they saw him enter, his roommates hurriedly greeted him.
"Oh, hello. I'm Anthony, Anthony Goldstein."
"I'm Michael Corner."
"Terry Boot." He was the one who had been chatting with Anzu earlier.
Although the three roommates had not done anything particularly memorable in the original story, it seemed none of them had died either.
Ravenclaws really were smart; they all knew how to protect themselves. "Hello, I'm Ted Epiphany." Ted introduced himself as well.
"We know. We all know now. That School Song was really good~"
Clearly, Ted had made a name for himself in one fell swoop.
After washing up, Ted made Anzu a nest from an old shirt, lowered the bed curtains, and went to sleep.
Wizards could use Scourgify for personal hygiene, but that required a very advanced level of mastery.
One careless move, and they might shave off all their body hair, turning it into a depilation spell.
Besides, even if he was technically clean, not washing his face or brushing his teeth still felt uncomfortable.
Ted was exhausted, but even after lying down, he did not close his eyes.
"Claim the quest rewards..." he said to the system in his mind.
Magical World! (Green) reward: choose one of three cards!
Three cards appeared in his mind. The first showed a card shattering into blue light, with the words "+1000 EXP" beside it.
Experience Card (Blue)
Experience Card
Use: Gain 1000 experience.
One-time use.
It directly granted 1000 experience, enough to level up once. Simple and brutal.
The second card showed a glowing human brain, with the words "Spell +Lv1" above it.
Spell Mastery (Blue)
Spell Card
Use: +Lv1 Spell, lasts 10 minutes.
Cooldown: 24 hours.
Ted's current Spell level was only Lv1. Using this card would effectively double his Spell level for a short time!
The third card showed a raven claw grasping a glowing lady's diadem, with the words "+2 Intelligence, +1 Spirit" beside it.
Ravenclaw's Wisdom (Blue)
Spell Card
+2 Intelligence, +1 Spirit, lasts 1 hour.
Cooldown: 12 hours.
This was an intelligence-boosting buff, roughly as effective as an enhanced intelligence potion.
It could be used at most twice per day.
No need to overthink it—two short and one long, pick the longest.
Experience was nice, but he could earn it slowly.
+Lv1 Spell was great too, but choosing Ravenclaw's Wisdom (Blue) would improve his learning ability over the long term. It was the best choice for long-term development.
Besides that, the Magical World! (Green) quest also rewarded 500 experience and +Lv1 Magic Power.
The quest Come On, Show Me! (Green) rewarded 200 experience and a choice of three cards.
The first card showed a mouth silently mouthing something.
Phantom Sound Technique (Green)
Mind Power Card
Consume a small amount of Mind Power to create a certain sound nearby.
Cooldown: 5 minutes.
The second card showed a mechanical doll with segmented joints, dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono, with accessories and makeup in the style of a Japanese courtesan.
Magical Figure - Eastern Ying Dancer (Green)
Item Card
Summon your Magical Figure - Eastern Ying Dancer to dance for you for 10 minutes.
Cooldown: 3 hours.
Note: It is only palm-sized. Stop fantasizing.
The third card showed a red-and-white flute playing musical notes, surrounded by people dancing.
Mysterious Dance Flute (Green)
Item Card
Blow the Mysterious Dance Flute to draw nearby creatures into dancing gracefully along with the music.
Ted thought it over and chose the Mysterious Dance Flute (Green).
Phantom Sound Technique was good, but magic could accomplish the same thing.
A moving figure was certainly nice too, but what if people thought he was an otaku? Though he was one.
How could it compare to a flute that could make people dance just by being played, with no restrictions whatsoever?
Ted's current attributes were:
Ted Epiphany Level: Level 1 Wizard / Level 1 Mind Mage Experience Pool: 1162 Attributes: (The average attribute value for an ordinary adult Muggle is 5) Strength 3 Constitution 3 Dexterity 4 Intelligence 6 Perception 7 Spirit 9 Charisma 7 Luck ?? (Ordinary people have 0; it fluctuates between positive and negative depending on their state) Talent: Otherworldly Knowledge (Gold) Skills: Magic Power Lv2, Magical Resistance Lv1, Spell Lv1, Mind Power Lv1, Mental Resistance Lv2, Divination Lv1. Magic: Lumos Lv1, Scouring Charm Lv1, Mending Charm Lv1, Water-Making Charm Lv1, Packing Charm Lv1, Bubblehead Charm Lv1. Mind Power: Appraisal Technique, Memory Palace, Spirit Crystal Servant (not cast), Reading Technique, Goodwill Technique, Conceal Thoughts. Cards: Restore Energy (Green), Wild Boar Firecracker (Green), Ravenclaw's Wisdom (Blue), Mysterious Dance Flute (Green). Quests: Once Is Possible, Twice Is Possible, Do Her! (Green), Explore Hogwarts (Red), The Corridor on the Right Side of the Third Floor, Right? (Green).
His Magic Power was now Lv2. He could clearly feel the magic within him becoming fuller and more active.
With Restore Energy (Green) and Ravenclaw's Wisdom (Blue), his body, intelligence, and spirit had all been strengthened. He would become the strongest academic weapon! He would study them all to death, wahahaha~ Ted contentedly closed the character panel and went to sleep in peace.
He slept until dawn, never leaving fatigue or stress for the next day. Even the doctors at St. Mungo's said he was very healthy~
