Background / History
Jiang Mengxi was raised in Xian Yuan Village by her grandfather, Old Master Jiang. Her parents, both villagers, died in a fall while gathering herbs before she was old enough to remember them. 203
She first approaches Gu Chen to ask him to examine her grandfather, whose apparent illness is actually caused by Evil Energy. Gu Chen cures him, earning Jiang Mengxi’s trust and admiration despite her grandmother’s initial hostility toward him. 130 131
After witnessing Gu Chen’s strength, Jiang Mengxi spends her savings on spiritual medicine for his cultivation. She is deceived into purchasing a worthless Purple Gold Dragon Flame Pill, but her intention convinces Gu Chen that her concern is genuine. 139 140 142
Gu Chen subsequently awakens her Spiritual Root and begins guiding her cultivation. Her exceptional wood-attribute talent rapidly outpaces the durability of her untrained body, causing a potentially fatal spiritual-energy backlash. To save her, Gu Chen takes her to the Sacred Bone Ruins, where she absorbs the Inner Core of the Ancient Divine Wood. 142 144 155 164
Shi Mengying secretly contaminates a sleeping drug with cursed blood to target Jiang Mengxi out of jealousy. The curse briefly deprives Jiang Mengxi of consciousness and causes her thorny vines to attack Gu Chen. He suppresses it, but determines that a permanent cure requires a treasure at Phoenix Cry Ravine. 180 181
Jiang Mengxi enters the Lingyin Province Martial Arts Tournament alongside Gu Chen. On Nether Spirit Island, the pair are separated; she is bound near man-eating vines, rescued by Gu Youwei, then incapacitated by Du Mingyang’s poisonous mist. Gu Chen later finds her and gives her the Bone-Corroding Beast’s Inner Core to improve her cultivation. 185 186 193 194 201 203
During the tournament’s second round, her mysterious power temporarily drains Zhao Qiufeng’s cultivation when he attempts to kill her. She later uses her vines to save Luo Junzhu from Zhao, but Gu Chen must intervene when Zhao attacks her directly. 218 220
Personality
Jiang Mengxi is filial, trusting, and compassionate. Her initial request for Gu Chen’s help is entirely motivated by concern for her grandfather, and she later sympathizes even with the aunt implicated in harming him. 130 166
She is sincere but naive, as shown by her willingness to spend her savings on medicine for Gu Chen and her failure to recognize the merchant’s scam. Her care for Gu Chen becomes romantic affection, though she is often embarrassed by it. 140 142 159
Despite her low cultivation, Jiang Mengxi repeatedly chooses to protect others. She saves Luo Junzhu during Zhao Qiufeng’s assault and attempts to shield Gu Chen from Old Master Qin’s ice dragon. 219 243
