Background
Pangu divided heaven and earth into six realms: the Buddhist, Immortal, Ghost, Demon, Monster, and Underworld realms. The Demon Realm belongs to the camp opposed to the Buddhist, Immortal, and Ghost realms. 198
The realm is governed by survival of the fittest. Its three Great Venerables each represent a major power, while local cultivators routinely fight over territory, resources, and status. 30 196 Its longstanding hostility with the Immortal Realm developed from repeated conflicts between their highest powers into the Immortal-Demon War. 316
Li Yang ascended to the Demon Realm with Tian Gang, Lily, Little Jack, the Ge family, Hou Jing's group, and several disciples. 260 After arriving in the Central Domain, his group established Verdant Wave Mountain as a base by defeating its former rulers. 261 263
Geography and Political Structure
Three Domains
| Domain | Ruler | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Southern Flame Domain | Great Venerable Zhu Rong | One of the three major regions of the realm. 261 |
| Northern Water Domain | Great Venerable Gong Gong | One of the three major regions of the realm. 261 |
| Central Domain | Great Venerable Chi You | Xiang Yu's faction; Li Yang arrives in this domain after ascending. 261 275 |
Notable Locations
- Demon God Palace — Chi You's residence in the Central Domain. Its servants are generally Demon King-level, Demon Lords are commonplace, and cultivation there is said to be ten to a hundred times faster than elsewhere in the realm. 311 312
- Sacred Land's Inner Region — Source of the images behind the Six Absolutes of the Demon God; only the three Great Venerables may enter it. 53
- Snowfall Mountain Range — A region within Demon King Ke Feng's former territory, containing Verdant Wave Mountain and numerous competing mountain strongholds. 263 267
- Blazing Hell — A dangerous celestial body above the Nine Heavens that contains dense spiritual energy and Blazing Hell Qi. It opens once every ten thousand years and permits only 108 entrants at a time. 318
- Heavenly River — The immense river separating the Demon and Immortal realms. Its source is the Nine Heavens Milky Way, while the Nine Nether Abyss lies at its bottom. 273
Society and Culture
Strength and Status
The Demon Realm's central social rule is that the strong are respected while the weak must remain humble. Powerful cultivators gain territory and followers by force, while defeated opponents often submit rather than resist. 229 263
- Raiding nearby plains is a common activity among mountain-based cultivators. 263
- The realm contains hundreds of millions of inhabitants, most of whom are ordinary people seeking entry into demonic cultivation sects or masters' households. 263
- Demon Lords command vastly greater authority than Demon Kings; a single Demon Lord may command over a hundred Demon Kings. 303
- Demonic cultivators frequently use restrictions to conceal their aura and recover while being pursued. 196
Cultivation Ranks
| Rank | Relative Position |
|---|---|
| Heavenly Demon | First major documented ascended demonic rank. 158 |
| Demon General | Above Heavenly Demon. 158 |
| Demon Commander | Above Demon General. 158 |
| Demon King | Above Demon Commander; the minimum strength to join the Immortal-Demon War. 158 285 |
| Demon Lord | Above Demon King. 158 |
| Demon Emperor | Highest listed conventional rank; only a limited number exist across the realm. 158 302 |
| Great Venerable | Eternal beings who transcend the Six Realms. 316 |
Combat Doctrine
Demonic cultivation emphasizes physical refinement, speed, and close-quarters combat. Demon Realm fighters are generally more formidable in direct melee than same-level Underworld cultivators, while the Immortal Realm relies more heavily on long-range attacks, spells, and formations. 30 344 439
- Body refinement — Considered the great dao of Demon Realm cultivation. 30
- Extreme speed — Treated as both defense and offense, since impact generated by speed can be devastating. 54
- Close combat — The realm's armies rely on physical strength and close-quarters killing rather than formations or elaborate battlefield strategies. 438
- Demonic Berserk — A bloodline-triggered state common among groups such as Bearfolk and Ox-headed humans; it doubles power but can erase reason below the Golden Core stage. 146
Resources and Crafts
| Resource / Field | Significance |
|---|---|
| Demon Origin Stones | Primary cultivation resource containing Demonic Yuan Force; classified as top-, middle-, and low-grade. 261 |
| Demonic Energy | Energy specialized for demonic cultivators and more effective for them than ordinary spiritual energy. 157 |
| Black Flame Spirit Pearl | Converts spiritual energy into pure Demonic Fiend Power and greatly accelerates demonic cultivation. 177 181 |
| Demonic Artifacts | Powerful equipment valued even by high-level cultivators; high-grade artifacts are rare enough to attract Demon Emperor interest. 211 |
| Arrays, restrictions, and alchemy | Fields in which the Demon Realm lags behind the Immortal Realm. 267 |
Demon Origin Stones are scarce enough to serve as taxes and territorial wealth. Demon King Ke Feng demanded fifteen high-grade stones from Verdant Wave Mountain, while his ten-year revenue from two mountain ranges and eight cities amounted to only slightly over ten thousand high-grade stones. 280 281
Interrealm Relations
| Realm / Faction | Relationship with the Demon Realm |
|---|---|
| Immortal Realm | Primary enemy; separated from the Demon Realm by the Heavenly River and engaged in repeated Immortal-Demon Wars. 273 316 |
| Ghost Realm | Part of the opposing camp, making entry especially difficult for Demon Realm cultivators. 198 |
| Buddhist Realm | Part of the opposing camp, though its Great Venerables are described as less confrontational than those of the Demon and Immortal realms. 316 |
| Demon Beast/Monster Realm | Allied realm; together with the Demon Realm and Underworld Realm, it forms one of the two major Six Realms camps. 198 378 |
| Underworld Realm | Allied realm and subordinate to the Demon Realm's camp. 378 |
The Northern Darkness Sea separates the Ghost Realm from the Underworld Realm. Crossing it is only potentially possible for Demon Lords, while Demon Emperors and Great Venerables can cross with certainty. 273
Major Events
Li Yang's Ascension and Verdant Wave Mountain
Li Yang and his companions ascended to the Demon Realm after his preparations in the Mortal Realm. 260 Upon reaching the Central Domain, Li Yang seized Verdant Wave Mountain, killed Pu Tong and Pu Shan, and compelled Pu Xu into a soul contract, establishing his group's first base in the realm. 263
The group later strengthened the mountain with the Minor Tai Chi Yin-Yang Array and raided neighboring peaks to acquire Demon Origin Stones. 267
Demon God Palace and Sacred Land
Li Yang and Xiang Yu traveled to the Demon God Palace, where Chi You permitted Li Yang to enter and attend his lecture. 311 312 Chi You later transmitted the Six Absolutes of the Demon God to Li Yang, recognizing his potential to become a fourth Great Venerable of the Demon Realm. 316 317
Li Yang was subsequently brought into the realm's Sacred Land by Chi You, Zhu Rong, and Gong Gong. There, he comprehended the first four absolutes and began understanding the fifth and sixth. 437
Immortal-Demon War
When the Heavenly River dried up, the Demon Realm mobilized its forces against the Immortal Realm. Pan Man/Xiang Yu, Yan Rong, and Cold Blood served as the three appointed commanders, leading twenty-one Demon Emperors, nearly a thousand Demon Lords, and an army said to approach one million Demon Kings. 438
The Immortal Realm trapped the Demon Realm army inside the Myriad Phenomena Heaven Annihilation Array, causing widespread confusion, qi deviation, and mutual slaughter. 439 441 Li Yang broke the formation, allowing the trapped forces to escape and counterattack with their superior close-combat ability. 442
The battle initially ended in an Immortal Realm retreat, but Li Yang was soon struck by attacks from the Three Pure Ones and sent into the Nine Nether Abyss, provoking renewed chaos and all-out warfare between the two realms. 448 449
