Not long after the vampires left, a fully armed team of more than fifty cautiously entered the altar with their guns raised. Seeing no one in the hall, the captain at the front raised a hand and had his men search the surroundings, but there was still no sign of the vampires.
"Damn Deacon!"
John Garrett, a Level 8 Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., picked up his radio and reported the situation to S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury, who was commanding from behind the scenes. "Director, your man has betrayed us. I need helicopters to hunt them down."
"No need to capture them. Deacon thinks he can betray us, but he's only dreaming."
Fury's cold voice came through the radio. "Search the place thoroughly and take anything useful. As for Deacon, I have a way to deal with him. Otherwise, I wouldn't have allowed him to become the Blood God!"
"You really hid another Trump Card. Why am I not surprised at all?"
John Garrett chuckled and put down the radio. Looking at the strange runes around him, he unconsciously touched his cold, hard abdomen. Could a vampire's power help him stay alive?
By then, Wang Bert and the others had already escaped into the woods behind the altar. Wang Bert stopped, turned to look back, and said, "No movement. Looks like S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't intend to pursue us."
"They couldn't catch us even if they tried!"
Blade turned to Wang Bert and asked, "What are you planning to do next?"
"Devour vampires and strengthen myself! Once Deacon Frost dies, the Blood Clan will be thrown into chaos. It'll be the perfect time for me to make my move!"
Wang Bert answered frankly, then asked, "What about you?"
Blade was just as frank. "Go back to the Safe House, deal with Vanessa, and figure out how to kill you. It might come in handy someday."
James was speechless. No wonder these two could be friends—they were exactly alike! "Then you'd better think it through carefully. All right, Blade, this is where we part ways!"
Wang Bert laughed heartily. "But we'll meet again soon. I still need you for something big."
"I prefer hunting vampires alone."
Blade misunderstood him slightly and gave Wang Bert a cool reply. Then, after hesitating for a moment, he asked, "Deacon said the vampires have nuclear bombs. Is that true?"
"Whether it's true or not doesn't matter. If they use nuclear bombs, the vampires will only die faster. That thing is just for scaring people!"
Wang Bert waved his hand. "The best way is to keep it buried underground forever!"
Blade understood. He nodded to Wang Bert, hoisted Vanessa over his shoulder, and quickly left. Watching his retreating figure, James could not help asking, "Bert, why didn't you kill him? With your current strength, it shouldn't be difficult, right?"
"I never intended to kill him, and he isn't that easy to kill anyway. He's Blade!"
Wang Bert shook his head and said, "James, do you have somewhere I can stay? I need to get familiar with my power—at the very least, I need to cure these red eyes first!"
James glanced at Wang Bert's eyes and nearly laughed. "I have a Safe House. But Bert, you're the Blood God now. There's no need to hide, is there? With your status, you're more than qualified to lead the Blood Clan!"
"You're overthinking it. To the Blood Clan, I'm just a stranger. Even with the Blood God's status, they won't easily acknowledge me. It's not like I can release some kingly aura!"
Wang Bert sneered. "There's only one way to make them submit!"
James asked impatiently, "What way?"
"Beat them into submission until they kneel and beg me to become their king!"
Wang Bert said. James could not help asking, "Can you really do that?"
"Of course I can. I'm the Blood God!"
Manhattan Island was quieter than usual that afternoon. Over the past month or so, dozens of intense gun battles had broken out across New York, leaving many dead and wounded and throwing everyone into a panic. Hardly anyone dared to go out anymore.
"Our Director George Stacy got chewed out again. Poor guy—didn't he only take office two months ago?"
Inside a coffee shop, Wang Bert flipped through a newspaper and said with a smile. After more than a month, he had already gained control over his power, and his eyes had returned to normal.
James kept most of his body hidden in the shadows and complained, "Blood God, didn't you cause three of those gun battles?"
Wang Bert put down the newspaper, took a sip of coffee, and said calmly, "The gunfights I caused all ended quickly, and no innocents were harmed, so none of it can be blamed on me!"
"That's true. You completely wiped out those vampires in seconds!"
James gave Wang Bert a reverent look. He had personally witnessed the Blood God's might. "Blood God, aside from us and Blade, it seems there's another force dealing with the vampires?"
"If I'm not mistaken, S.H.I.E.L.D. is taking the opportunity to eliminate the vampires. Their methods are far more ruthless than ours."
Wang Bert said, "But that isn't a bad thing. The harder S.H.I.E.L.D. kills, the faster the Blood Clan will surrender!"
James could not help asking, "Blood God, when will the Blood Clan surrender?"
"Soon. The Blood Clan's situation is already dire. As long as we take out their Radical Faction, the remaining Conservative Faction will surrender!"
Wang Bert said, "That day isn't far off, because the Radical Faction wants to kill me. They'll come after me on their own!"
"Then they're courting death. Blood God, you're invincible!"
"Against vampires, I truly am invincible!"
Wang Bert smiled. "Pay the bill and wait for me in the parking lot. Once I deal with this hideout, I'll come find you."
"Yes, Blood God!"
James respectfully watched Wang Bert leave. He felt more and more that following Wang Bert in the first place had been an exceptionally wise decision.
What, forced? Of course not. The moment he first saw Wang Bert, he had felt that the man possessed the bearing of a celestial being, so he had voluntarily joined his ranks! That was exactly how it happened! Bribery? It absolutely did not exist!
Naturally, Wang Bert had no idea what James was thinking. He entered an Abandoned Subway Station through its entrance. According to James's information, this was a vampire hideout. They spread messages online to lure people here for exploration or secret dates, then drained every drop of their blood!
Logically, once enough people died, no one should have come anymore. But in reality, the more people died, the more people came—why were there so few people abroad? Because there were too many people eager to get themselves killed!
As soon as Wang Bert entered the subway station, he sensed that something was off. He stopped and said, "Your counterattack came faster than I expected."
The surroundings were silent, with no response. A moment later, more than twenty figures emerged from the darkness around him. Then, dozens of fully armed figures poured in through the surrounding entrances, raising their assault rifles at Wang Bert!
Compared to the composed figures in front, those behind them were clearly nervous. After all, they were facing the Blood God. They had heard that hundreds of vampires had already died at his hands!
It was worth mentioning that these vampires were wrapped up tightly, clearly guarding against Wang Bert's ultraviolet tactics—vampires were not idiots. They knew their own weaknesses!
"More than twenty Pureblood Vampires. Quite an impressive lineup!"
Wang Bert glanced at the vampires and smiled. "Are you here to give me an extra meal?"
"Bert Wang, the power of the Blood God is not something a lowly, despicable Half-blood like you deserves! Today, we will drain every drop of your blood and reduce you to ashes!"
A middle-aged Pureblood Vampire holding an ancient-looking box shouted arrogantly. They opposed Wang Bert partly because they refused to accept him, but more importantly, because they wanted his power! That was also one reason these purebloods had allowed Deacon Frost to act unchecked!
"Lowly? A bunch of disgusting bat freaks dare say that to me?"
Wang Bert suddenly appeared before the Pureblood Vampire, his palm turning into a blade as he stabbed toward the man's chest. The Pureblood Vampire was horrified and forcefully slapped the bottom of the box. With a bang, the box exploded, and a crimson chain covered in runes automatically coiled around Wang Bert's body, rendering him unable to move! "What is this thing?"
Wang Bert frowned and turned into a blood river in an attempt to escape. Yet even in that form, he could not break free from the crimson runic chain. He was pinned in midair, unable to flee!
"This is a treasure of our Blood Clan, Vlad's Blood Chains! The North American Blood Clan may not have foundations as deep as the European Blood Clan, but that does not mean a single Blood God like you can act so arrogantly!"
The middle-aged vampire burst into laughter. Then, he took out a knife, sliced open his wrist, and offered his blood to the Blood Chains. The other Pureblood Vampires did the same! The Blood Chains were indeed powerful, but they had to be activated with pureblood blood and consumed a tremendous amount of it. Otherwise, no one would have left them unused for so long! Wang Bert did not panic. He returned to human form, ignored the Blood Chains tightening around him, and said with a smile, "Good stuff. I'll take it!"
"Keep dreaming. Your blood will soon be ours!"
The middle-aged vampire said disdainfully, and the others felt the same. Their eyes were full of greed and hatred.
"A filthy Half-blood like you thinks he deserves to be the Blood God? Today, we'll let you know that the Blood Clan will forever belong to the purebloods!"
"That's right, you disgusting Half-blood! Die!"
As he listened to their curses, Wang Bert's gaze gradually turned cold. He could not be bothered to waste more words. At a thought, a mass of blood suddenly fell from the ceiling, transforming into a spear in midair and instantly piercing through the arrogant middle-aged vampire. It then began madly devouring his blood!
"No! Don't kill me! I surrender!"
The middle-aged vampire no longer had any of his former smugness and immediately begged for mercy. He had lived for hundreds of years and did not want to die here!
"What a disgusting 'higher life-form.'"
Wang Bert looked at him with utter contempt and directly controlled the blood to drain him into a dried corpse. The blood then shot like lightning toward another Pureblood Vampire.
"Stop him!"
The purebloods panicked and shouted. The Half-bloods immediately opened fire on the mass of blood. It abruptly dipped, dodging most of the bullets, then flung all nine silvery metal balls hidden inside it onto the ground! Before the vampires could make out what the balls were, all nine exploded with a bang, firing countless silvery needles that struck the vampires' calves and thighs!
The vampires were indeed fully armed, and some even wore bulletproof vests. But bulletproof vests protected the chest and back, not the legs, so they were all hit by the dense shower of silver needles! The needles themselves were not particularly powerful. They were only temporary products designed by Frank's colleagues based on Wang Bert's ideas, and they would have caused ordinary people little more than minor injuries. The problem was that these were vampires, and the needles were silver-plated!
Thus, the vampires screamed in agony as their bodies rapidly dissolved from wherever the silver needles had struck. In only moments, those Half-blood Vampires turned to ash, leaving only their clothes and guns to clatter onto the ground!
The Pureblood Vampires were also badly injured, their legs dissolving into one wound after another in a miserable sight! Wang Bert's blood took the opportunity to split into three, forming three long arrows that pierced through the bodies of three Pureblood Vampires. The purebloods completely panicked. Some fled in every direction, while others roared and fired at the blood arrows! Once the Pureblood Vampires descended into chaos, the Blood Chains could no longer hold Wang Bert. With a shout, he broke free of the Blood Chains and turned into an ever-expanding blood river, surging forward and completely blanketing the sky above the Pureblood Vampires!
"No, spare us! We surrender!"
The Pureblood Vampires were terrified. They fled while crying out for mercy, but Wang Bert ignored them. The blood river formed countless Blood-Colored Spears that whistled down in a dense barrage, piercing every Pureblood Vampire and pinning them to the ground before rapidly draining their blood!
In just a few seconds, every one of those vampires had been completely drained.
After dealing with the enemies, the blood river gathered together and turned back into Wang Bert. Looking at the clothes and guns scattered across the floor, he sneered. They had truly overestimated themselves!
Wang Bert was now this powerful. So-called purebloods were nothing before him! Then, he took a small Ultraviolet Lamp from his pocket, switched it on, and shone it over the ground. The dried corpses immediately disintegrated into ashes—quite environmentally friendly, since their wounds could not block the ultraviolet light.
After disposing of the bodies, Wang Bert walked over and picked up the Blood Chains. He recalled the middle-aged vampire's memories, smeared his blood onto the Blood Chains, and watched as they greedily absorbed it and gradually shrank, becoming like a belt.
"The drawback of this thing is that it consumes a lot, but that's nothing to me. I have a blood river."
Wang Bert fastened the chain around his waist as a belt. Then, he used a knife to carve a line into the wall, adjusted his clothes, and turned to leave the subway station! "Those who offend the Blood God shall die!"
The day the Blood Clan submitted to him was not far away! Seven days later, Mercury, a Pureblood Vampire, led a group of vampires to kneel before Wang Bert. "We beg the Blood God to save our Blood Clan!"
"From today onward, I am your clan leader!"
Wang Bert laughed loudly. His first step in the Marvel World had now officially been completed. Next, he would participate in this game of survival amid the apocalypse as the Blood God! Wang Bert narrowed his eyes. "Next, it's time to use the Blood Clan's power to find that lady in England. She's an important piece on the board. I wonder if I can convince her to work for me? And while I'm at it, I should verify whether someone has returned!"
On a bustling street, Blade sighed, feeling irritated. Ever since leaving that altar, nothing had gone smoothly for him. First, when he returned to his hideout, he discovered that the bitten Whistler had disappeared. Then, he spent every day arguing with his mother, Vanessa! Vanessa constantly blamed Blade for Deacon's death and insisted that she was an aristocrat who needed to drink fresh human blood. Blade truly wanted to drag Deacon back up from hell and kill him again! The only thing that could make Blade happy now was killing vampires. The vampires had been in complete chaos lately, and he had killed to his heart's content. At the moment, he was on his way to kill more vampires!
Just then, a police car suddenly stopped in front of Blade, and an officer got out and walked toward him. Blade frowned slightly. His relationship with the police was not exactly good—well, to be honest, he was outright wanted, and at the highest level! The officer stopped in front of Blade and nervously handed him a phone. "Mr. Blade, the Blood God wants to speak with you."
"You're from the Blood-thirsty Clan?"
Blade froze. The Blood God getting involved with the Blood-thirsty Clan was not good news.
The officer said ingratiatingly, "Yes, I've always dreamed of becoming a noble member of the Blood Clan."
"The day you become a vampire, I'll come looking for you."
After saying that, Blade ignored the officer's stiff expression and picked up the phone. There was only one number on it. Blade dialed it, and the call was quickly answered. Wang Bert's deep voice came through. "Blade, I'm sorry. They offered too much!"
