The empire previously launched a continent-wide war to spread Soul Tools across Douluo Continent. Its invasion was ultimately repelled by the three great empires and Shrek’s predecessors, but the destruction caused by Soul Tools left lasting resistance to their use elsewhere on the continent. 108 181

By the period before the Continental Youth Advanced Soul Master Elite Competition, the Sun Moon Empire maintained tense border relations with the Star Luo Empire. Its small units were reported near Dawn City, where nearby facilities and villages were attacked and civilians displaced. 66 67

Pre-war maneuvering

The Sun Moon Empire’s alleged cooperation with the Holy Spirit Cult became a major concern for Shrek Academy and the Star Luo Empire. The threat of the empire gaining the God Sealing Platform was one reason Shrek treated the Soul Fighting Competition as strategically essential. 91 92

The empire proposed allowing sects into the Continental Youth Advanced Soul Master Elite Competition. Wang Nan concluded that the change was intended to draw out and eliminate promising disciples from academies and sects across the continent. 170

Continental war

After a failed assassination attempt against Xu Tianran at the Elite Competition, the empire mobilized its forces, detained competition participants with Rank 9 Soul Tools, and declared war on the three great empires. 181

Its early offensive relied on reconnaissance superiority, large-scale Soul Tool bombardment, and Soul Engineer Legions. The empire breached the Heaven Dou Empire’s defenses, captured Heaven Dou City, and drove the Star Luo Empire back toward Yuming City. 208 222 233

The advance was briefly interrupted when Sea Soul Beasts attacked several coastal cities, including Dongyang City, forcing the empire to withdraw troops from the Heavenly Soul front. 222

Yuming City and Shrek City

At Yuming City, the empire’s linked Soul Tool formations initially neutralized the defenders’ cannon fire. Its assault was halted after Shrek Academy intervened and Wang Nan defeated Long Xiaoyao, prompting a withdrawal. 234 241

The empire then concentrated three major Soul Engineer Legions outside Shrek City. Its forces breached the city’s defenses, but Shrek’s counterattack destroyed the Hand of Protection and Soul Engineer Legions deployed there. 247 251 255

Peace and aftermath

After the destruction of its elite legions and the allied counteroffensive by the three great empires, the Sun Moon Empire sought peace. It offered to return conquered Heavenly Soul and Star Luo territories in exchange for an end to the war. 256

Following the later palace crisis, Ju Zi assumed control of imperial affairs and ordered a nationwide purge of Evil Soul Masters, a move that won public support from citizens previously unaware of the empire’s connections to the Holy Spirit Cult. 276
