Ma Xiaotao grew up burdened by the Evil Fire Phoenix Martial Soul. Evil Qi constantly affected her temperament and cultivation, forcing Yan Shaozhe to limit her training time and contact with others out of fear she might hurt them. Yan Shaozhe, whom she calls Teacher, is also her adoptive father. 18 20

While acquiring her Third Soul Ring, Ma Xiaotao absorbed the ring of a mutated Flame Cloud Sparrow. Her Evil Fire erupted during absorption, turning her flames blood-red and driving her into a rampage. Wang Nan subdued her by dispersing her flames with his spiritual power and staff techniques. 19

Yan Shaozhe had deliberately arranged the encounter after observing Wang Nan's restraining effect on evil attributes. Wang Nan accepted an agreement to help Ma Xiaotao cultivate and suppress her Evil Qi in exchange for resources and Yan Shaozhe's support. 20
