After clearing his throat, Fengyun took out a piece of cheese pastry and ate it. "It's nothing. I just forgot to report something yesterday."
"I didn't think much of it at the time, but later I realized this matter..."
"It'd be better to report it after all!"
As he spoke, he handed a piece of cheese pastry to Daili. "It tastes pretty good. Want to try some?"
Daili took the cheese pastry Fengyun handed her. "I haven't eaten this stuff in years!"
After quietly fiddling with the cheese pastry in her hand for a while, Daili fixed her beautiful eyes on Fengyun. "What did you forget to mention?"
Sensing the faint smile on her face, Fengyun ran his right hand through his ink-black short hair, brushing it back slightly as he raised his head. "I've broken through to the realm of Lifting the Light as if Heavy!"
Daili paused her pretended work of handling alchemical materials and asked in confusion, "Lifting the Light as if Heavy? What's that?"
Three days later, after settling all sorts of trivial matters, Fengyun took Lin Lei into the mountains. He did not rest in the city to ease the exhaustion from his training in the Monster Mountain Range, lest Lin Lei, who had already prepared himself, wait too long.
Both wore fitted warrior attire. When they arrived at the Monster Mountain Range and were about to enter the mountains, they heard someone calling from behind them.
"Lin Lei, Lin Lei~"
Lin Lei turned around and looked at the man rapidly approaching from behind. After a moment, he recognized him. "So it's Desha. Are you here to train in the Monster Mountain Range too?"
As he spoke, he glanced at the two men beside Desha, one burly and one thin, both dressed like warriors.
Watching this scene, Fengyun recalled that in the original story, Lin Lei did seem to encounter a classmate from the wind-element class when he entered the mountains. He thought to himself, Tsk, with my influence, Lin Lei's strength has improved much faster than in the original story.
I can't remember the exact timing, but compared to the original, there should be at least several months' difference.
Yet the moment we entered the mountains, we still ran into this classmate, Desha. This world has laws of fate. Could Desha, the tool character meant to remind the protagonist of the Monster Mountain Range's dangers, ultimately be unable to escape his destined path?
Fengyun felt rather moved as he watched, but he said nothing more. After all, he was not familiar with Desha. However, his gaze at the surrounding trees grew more vigilant, and the hand gripping the hilt of the Light Shadow Blade tightened slightly.
After Desha and Lin Lei finished speaking and suggested training together, Fengyun nodded in agreement. The group then continued onward together.
Feeling the faint sense of danger around them, Fengyun turned to Lin Lei. "Lin Lei, today I'll teach you your first lesson in mountain training."
"Danger doesn't just come from the magical beasts in the mountains. It also comes from humans outside them!"
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh~
Swish~
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang~
Lin Lei was still somewhat confused by Fengyun's words when several streaks of blade light flashed before everyone's eyes. Then came the sound of severed arrows falling to the ground.
The team of archers hidden in the forest to hunt cultivators who came here to train was certainly not weak. Their arrows were swift and vicious.
But unfortunately, no matter how fast they were, they could not outpace Fengyun. Although Fengyun's speed was nothing compared to Beibei's, knocking down these flying arrows was truly no difficulty at all.
Feeling the force behind the arrows, Fengyun sneered. "The force isn't bad, but your eyesight sure is. You dared to target just anyone."
Desha and the others were no novices. The instant the change occurred, they swiftly sought cover and hid.
Yet it would have been better if they had not hidden. The moment they did, they left Fengyun's protection. At such a distance, Fengyun's Battle Qi Slashes would not be able to reach them in time to save them.
The nearby concealed archers were also quick to react, immediately firing arrows at Desha and the others.
Seeing Fengyun and Lin Lei standing where they were, unharmed despite facing a barrage of arrows, Desha's group of three suddenly realized that their instinctive reaction might not have been the best choice.
But before they could return to Fengyun's side, Desha and the burly Kava were shot dead by the rain of arrows. Only Matt, who was nimble, escaped disaster. Yet he did not seize the chance to return to Fengyun and seek protection. Instead, he fled the battlefield at top speed, escaping this troubled place.
Having come to his senses, Lin Lei also overcame the fear in his heart. In the shortest possible time, he determined the enemies' positions from the directions the arrows came from and cast two Earth Spike Arrays, taking out most of them.
The remaining enemies were so frightened that they made no further movement, not daring to attack recklessly again.
Feeling the sense of threat vanish, Fengyun judged that the other side had most likely admitted defeat and retreated. Still, he instructed Lin Lei to use Wind of Perception to confirm it a second time before taking him to collect the spoils.
A moment later, Fengyun handed Lin Lei a share of Magic Crystal Cores and some materials. "This was my first time making a move in this training trip, and it was also meant to open your eyes and let you experience the dangers of the Monster Mountain Range!"
"I won't make a move so easily from now on!"
"Even if you face a life-and-death crisis, as long as it isn't one that can kill you instantly, I won't intervene. After all, only this way can you truly be tempered."
After putting the materials and Magic Crystal Cores Fengyun gave him into his backpack, Lin Lei nodded. "I understand, Brother Yun!"
"Before deciding to undergo this training, I was already prepared. I just didn't expect the Monster Mountain Range to be this dangerous. Before we even entered the mountains, we had already gone through a battle."
"And it wasn't even a battle against magical beasts!"
Over the next three days, the two men and one rat began darting all over the Monster Mountain Range.
During those brief three days, Lin Lei felt as though his feet had never stopped moving. Sleeping and eating were the only times he could rest.
The rest of the time, he was either fighting all kinds of magical beasts or listening to Fengyun explain various little tricks for training and surviving in the Monster Mountain Range. As he learned, he also had to put them into practice on the spot.
With this kind of learning that combined theory and practice, aside from it being too fast and exhausting, Lin Lei found nothing wrong with it. Every day of those three days had been incredibly fulfilling.
After Lin Lei finished dinner today and quickly fell asleep to restore his energy and strength, Fengyun quietly crept to his side and woke Beibei, who had also fallen asleep.
After holding a finger to his lips to remind Beibei to be quiet, he led the groggy Beibei away from their resting place.
There was not a single unnecessary sound throughout the entire process. Only Delin, floating nearby, witnessed everything.
At the same time, he watched with great interest as the man and rat whispered to each other in the distance.
"Beibei, I know that with your intelligence, you can understand what I'm saying, so I'll be direct."
"During Lin Lei's subsequent trials, I hope you can stay safely by Lin Lei's side and stop making moves whenever you please. Unless there is a fatal attack aimed at vital areas like Lin Lei's head or heart, ignore everything else."
