In the legends Above the Five Seas, mermaids had another, more mysterious name: Sirens.
When Angel had just left the North Continent and begun her sea voyage with Klein, she had encountered children who mistook her for a Siren because of her beauty and mysterious aura.
Now, looking at the genuine Siren wrapped layer upon layer in fishing nets, she could not help but feel that Donna and Danton aboard the White Agate had had every reason to mistake her for one.
This... creature, which could only currently be called a "strip" of Siren, was tightly wrapped in a fine-meshed fishing net. She was naked, with a prominently swollen chest, but from her neck down to her half-fish, half-human-legged tail, her skin was covered in gradually thickening scales. They shone azure-blue beneath the setting sun, like a uniquely designed evening gown.
Compared to her fish-like tail, the Siren's head was almost identical to a human's. She looked like a rather beautiful young woman, her face carrying the youthful liveliness of an underage girl. Her eyes were tightly shut, pale eyebrows furrowed, while her gleaming golden hair clung to the scaled skin of her shoulders and back, dampened by seawater.
Yet beneath the sunlight and in the drying air, the seawater covering the Siren's body rapidly evaporated. Her split tail continuously transformed toward human legs, while her scales gradually receded beneath her skin. She was caught between "human" and "Beyonder Creature," making it difficult to tell which side she belonged to.
Just like the others of her kind I saw in the God War Ruins... Angel muttered, looking once more at the gathered Sailors as she waited for an explanation.
Soon, amid their overlapping accounts, Angel learned the full story of how the Siren had been caught.
