While resolving the Mirror Person problem in Trier, she had seen that old man in Arrodes's mirror. He had a cannon barrel concealed in his hand, could release gas from his back to assist his flight, and had a body like a mechanical puppet. She knew he was Horamick Haydn, the Church of Steam's Archbishop stationed in Backlund. She guessed that he had most likely learned what she had done after the Great Smog, and that seeing her had surprised him inwardly, providing feedback for her acting.
Strong feedback from a Saint, possibly even a Sequence 3 Saint, was enough to greatly accelerate her potion's digestion!
