Makarov has lived in the Fairy Tail guild since birth. He states that Fairy Tail was founded in X686 and had existed for ninety-four years under three masters by the time he announced his retirement; he himself had already served as Guild Master for forty-four years, surpassing Precht’s tenure. 399

He attempted to step down and introduce a new Guild Master, citing exhaustion and a desire to enjoy retirement. However, he later continued to act as Fairy Tail’s master and was again identified as its Guild Master. 399 566 589

He is pragmatic and shameless when convenient. During an S-Class examination, he rejected Ywen, Erza, Aileen, and Ul’s simultaneous completion of the test solely by invoking his authority as Guild Master. He also openly admits that Fairy Tail members rarely obey the rules he creates. 86 452
