Background / History

After arriving in the world, Ywen identified Aileen as the Dragon Queen and former founder of Dragon Slayer Magic. Having grown attached to her over a year, he resolved to prevent her tragic future and protect those important to him while living peacefully until the end of the world. 2

Ywen was present for Erza’s birth and quickly became a central figure in her upbringing. When Erza awakened Requip: Knight after defending him and Aileen from rogue Mages, he recognized that the Magnet-Magnet Fruit would complement her armor manipulation and remedy her lack of ranged offense. 3 7

When Ywen and Erza were ten, he gave her the final Paramecia-type Magnet-Magnet Fruit as a birthday gift. Soon afterward, he chose to leave their town after eleven years, both for a new mission and to avoid attention caused by Aileen’s unchanging appearance. 7

He chose to join Fairy Tail for its strength, system rewards, and the potential boost derived from bearing the guild’s emblem. After joining, he invested his reward funds into balanced growth rather than raising only his Magic Power. 8 11

Personality

Ywen is protective, pragmatic, and deeply family-oriented. His desire to avert Aileen’s fate and safeguard those close to him guides many of his choices. He worries that excessive assistance may prevent Erza from becoming independent, so he balances doting care with deliberate training and restrictions on dangerous missions. 2 22

He approaches power analytically. When considering whether to use Attach Magic to mass-produce S-Class soldiers, he rejects the plan as inefficient against truly overwhelming opponents. Likewise, he raises his abilities evenly rather than allowing his Magic Power to outpace his combat ability. 11 23

Despite often disliking trouble and showing impatience when interrupted, Ywen is willing to assist people he cares about, including Kagura, Lisanna, and the Strauss siblings.
