The New Fifth Division Captain

On this day, the gates of this important entrance to the Seireitei stood open.

By the time Chiba Makoto arrived at Hakutōmon, all the ceremonies to welcome the Expeditionary Force home had already been prepared.

Makoto's appearance caused a brief stir, followed by a unified cry.

"Lord Makoto."

In the present Seireitei, although Makoto's actual position was merely First Division Lieutenant, the godlike combat power he had once displayed made every Soul Reaper understand that he could not be measured by the standards of an ordinary Vice-Captain.

Thus, the rank-and-file members of the Thirteen Divisions did not address him as "Vice-Captain Chiba" as they would other Vice-Captains, but respectfully called him "Lord Makoto."

In response to the Soul Reapers' salutes, Makoto answered them with his usual gentleness, making the many Soul Reapers look upon him with even greater reverence.

Then, HInamori Momo, who was in charge of leading the Fifth Division in welcoming Amagai Shūsuke, hurried over to Makoto. Excited yet restrained, she first bowed, then said loudly,

"Lord Makoto, e-everything is ready. P-please instruct me."

Makoto placed both hands on Momo's slender shoulders and personally helped her up, speaking warmly.

"There's no need to be nervous, Momoko. I've heard quite a bit about your abilities during this time. The student I remember, who used to be rather flustered at Shin'ō Academy, has unknowingly become an outstanding Soul Reaper capable of standing on her own."

At those words, Momo's cheeks turned thoroughly red with excitement and joy. An indescribable delight completely enveloped her heart, and she unconsciously broke into a grin, revealing her white teeth.

I-I've been acknowledged!!!

Especially since Lord Makoto had called her by her nickname—"Momoko"!

It felt so close...

In that instant, Momo felt the excitement of having her perfect idol draw near.

As for the
