Ch. 287Return to Wano Country

Bright went to Wano Country to force Kaido to withdraw from the war against the NEO Marines. In the Flower Capital, he met Kyo Shiro and offered to help him strike while Kaido was away.

  • Binz warned Zephyr that the Beasts Pirates and the Marines' fleet were too powerful to face head-on, but Bright arrived and told them to keep the Marines occupied.
  • Bright said he would persuade one of the other forces to withdraw, then transformed into a dragon and flew to Wano Country.
  • Bright reached the Flower Capital and entered Kyo Shiro's residence after the ronin returned home from drinking.
  • Bright reassured Kyo Shiro that he had come to help and asked where his people were.
  • Bright told Kyo Shiro that Kaido was away and that they could begin by dealing with someone in Wano Country.

Ch. 288Reunion with Yamato

Bright arrived in Ringo and reunited underground with Kawamatsu, Hyogoro, and Yamato, who had joined the resistance against Kaido and Orochi. He said he was not ready to reclaim Wano yet, but planned to target Orochi and help Yamato grow strong enough to protect the country.

  • Bright followed Kawamatsu’s portrait-guided contact into a hidden underground chamber in Ringo.
  • Bright warmly reunited with Kawamatsu and Hyogoro, then greeted Yamato, whom the retainers had helped after she was hunted by the Beasts Pirates.
  • Yamato declared that she would follow Oden’s example and lead everyone to victory, while Kawamatsu and Hyogoro encouraged her.
  • Kawamatsu asked whether Bright had come to begin the fight to reclaim Wano, and Bright said he still needed to make Kaido return and build the country’s strength.
  • Bright identified Orochi as his immediate target, and Kawamatsu agreed before inviting everyone to celebrate with a feast.

Ch. 289The Death of Orochi

Bright and the Kozuki allies launched their attack on Orochi during a banquet in the Flower Capital, and Kawamatsu repeatedly killed him despite his power to revive. Kawamatsu carried Orochi away to face the people of Wano Country he had harmed.

  • Komurasaki played a fierce piece on her Shamisen as Bright entered Orochi's banquet and used his willpower to knock out everyone except her.
  • Kawamatsu and Hyogoro attacked Orochi while Yamato struck Fukurokuju aside and declared it was the Kozuki family's time for revenge.
  • Hyogoro pinned Orochi down as Kawamatsu stabbed his heart, but Orochi transformed into an eight-headed serpent and revived.
  • Kawamatsu slashed all eight of Orochi's heads, and Hyogoro shattered his heart with a Ryuo strike when he revived again.

Bright prepared to evacuate Onigashima before Kaido returned, but stayed behind to confront him. Bright revealed a dragon form and matched Kaido’s attacks, ending the chapter as thunder gathered overhead.

  • Kawamatsu told Bright that everyone had been brought under control and that they needed to retreat from Onigashima.
  • Bright warned Kawamatsu to hide because Kaido would intensify his search after Orochi’s death and the fall of the Beasts Pirates’ stronghold.
  • Bright sensed Kaido’s return and told Kawamatsu and Yamato to retreat while he stayed behind.
  • Kaido attacked Onigashima with Heat Breath, and Bright transformed into a crimson dragon and countered with his own Heat Breath.

  • Bright converted all his stored energy into a King's Punch that shattered Onigashima's skull and sent Kaido flying.
  • Kaido survived by using Flame Clouds to keep himself from falling into the sea, but Bright's punch left him gravely injured and afraid.
  • Bright flew away from Wano Country and headed toward the first half of the New World to meet Teacher Zephyr and confront the Marine fleet.

  • Bright said the NEO Marines first had to determine the Navy’s location.

Ch. 295Fishing

Aokiji diverted his fleet to answer a distress call from the unprotected Kingdom of Nicosia, leaving Akainu and Kizaru to pursue the NEO Marines. At the port, Zephyr and Bright used Blood Axe Joseph’s attack to lure Aokiji toward them, and the Marine warships appeared on the horizon.

  • A messenger told Aokiji that Cipher Pol had spotted the NEO Marines near Ackley Island, and Aokiji agreed to head there.
  • A second message reported that Blood Axe Joseph had attacked the Kingdom of Nicosia, so Aokiji diverted his fleet to help.
  • Akainu and Kizaru continued toward their target while Aokiji’s fleet sailed for Nicosia.
  • Zephyr and Bright forced Blood Axe Joseph to occupy the port town and wait for them.
  • Zephyr predicted Aokiji would come, and the Marine warships appeared in the distance.

Ch. 296An Unexpected Encounter: Two Shichibukai

Bright and Zephyr confronted Aokiji's fleet after Bright detected Aokiji and two powerful Shichibukai aboard. Bright's Conqueror's Haki incapacitated most of the pirates and Marines, and the story left Bright facing Ochoku and the other Shichibukai while Zephyr prepared to fight Aokiji.

  • Aokiji sensed that the island was strangely quiet as Ochoku and Miss Bakkin urged him to finish the pirates and move on to fight Zephyr.

Ch. 304A World in Shock

The Navy and World Government reeled after Bright and Zephyr’s forces inflicted a crushing defeat, capturing Akainu, Aokiji, and many officers. As the Five Elders debated how to limit the fallout and rescue the captives, news of the Navy’s loss spread across the seas.

  • At G-5 Base, Kizaru reported the Navy’s unprecedented defeat to Sengoku, who struggled to accept Bright and Zephyr’s victory.
  • Tsuru urged Sengoku to consider the damage to the Navy’s and Government’s authority, and Sengoku decided to report the defeat to the Government before planning a rescue.
  • At Mary Geoise, the Five Elders argued over how to contain the defeat and retrieve Sakazuki, Kuzan, and the captured officers.
  • The Five Elders rejected exposing Bright’s role or confronting him directly, and considered negotiating because they had no reliable way to defeat him.
  • The World Economic News Agency distributed reports of the defeat, and people across the world learned that Akainu and Aokiji had been captured.

Ch. 305Master and Disciples

The Navy’s crushing defeat by Bright and Zephyr sent the world into panic and made the NEO Marines a source of hope for nations outside the World Government. As the New World’s powers reacted, Zephyr visited his captured former disciples to talk about the state of the world.

  • News spread that the Navy’s two fleets had been defeated, with Kizaru the only expedition participant to escape and the rest captured.

Zephyr explained his plan to establish the NEO Marines as an independent protector of nations outside the World Government, but Akainu rejected his argument and Aokiji remained silent. After Zephyr failed to sway the two captive admirals, Bright told him the World Government wanted to negotiate, and Zephyr agreed to hear them out.

  • Zephyr spoke with his imprisoned disciples Akainu and Aokiji about his plans after the NEO Marines' victory.
  • Zephyr said he would form a new Navy and an alliance with non-member nations, offering them protection in exchange for financial support.
  • Akainu condemned Zephyr's plan and warned that opposing the World Government would benefit Bright, while Zephyr argued that the Government chiefly protected the Celestial Dragons' authority.
  • Zephyr left the cell and told Bright that words alone would not change Akainu and Aokiji's convictions.
  • Bright informed Zephyr that the World Government wanted to negotiate, and Zephyr agreed.

Ch. 307An Exorbitant Demand
