"Shut up!"
Tang Badan's heart nearly leaped into his throat. His vision darkened slightly, yet he still only reprimanded Bai Cangshu in a low voice.
He did not forget to calm down and listen for movement inside the inn, afraid Mercenary Tao might wake up.
After waiting for a moment without hearing anything, Tang Badan finally glared at Bai Cangshu darkly and snapped,
"It was you, you bastard! You actually dared to threaten me!"
Bai Cangshu smiled and shrugged, utterly unashamed of his "despicable" conduct—if anything, he seemed proud of it.
He corrected him.
"It isn't a threat, Mr. Tang Badan."
"I've already left a note somewhere in the inn. It says that you covet the wealth Mercenary Tao has amassed, but fear his brutality, and so secretly lured his disciple—that would be me..."
"...into killing Mercenary Tao together. Heh."
Bai Cangshu truly had left such a thing in the inn. He was not threatening Tang Badan; he had already acted. With Mercenary Tao's groundless suspicion, once he discovered that Tang Badan might harbor other intentions—
He would not bother investigating whether it was true. Killing Tang Badan outright would be the most convenient option.
Tang Badan understood this himself, which was why he had not rashly told Mercenary Tao that Bai Cangshu had contacted him. Instead, he had come to see Bai Cangshu late at night.
If looks could kill, Bai Cangshu would probably have been cut into a thousand pieces by Tang Badan already.
Bai Cangshu waved a hand, drew the two daggers Qing She had soaked in various venoms from behind his back, and said with a smile,
"Don't look at me so lovingly, Mr. Tang Badan. We should carefully plan how to survive tomorrow instead."
"Teacher Mercenary Tao isn't exactly a reasonable man."
Seeing that Tang Badan was still glaring at him resentfully, Bai Cangshu shook his head helplessly and continued,
"Why not look on the bright side? Once we succeed tomorrow, all the immense wealth Mercenary Tao has accumulated over the years will be yours!"
Tang Badan's pupils contracted as he blurted out,
"You really don't want it..."
Bai Cangshu spread his hands, his smile growing ever brighter. People were weak because, far too often, they were swayed by their emotions.
Even someone as timid as Tang Badan could resist the fear Mercenary Tao inspired when tempted by wealth.
Trembling, he accepted the two poisoned daggers, though he still did not have much confidence.
Fortunately, Bai Cangshu did not need him to think or plan. Bai Cangshu patted Tang Badan's shoulder and whispered,
"You only need to do this..."
The moonlight was veiled by dark clouds. Tang Badan only felt as though a vicious ghost were luring him down a path of no return, yet... he could not refuse.
Time passed quickly. After the sun had risen and set once more, as night began to fall and the starlight on the horizon had yet to brighten, several figures suddenly appeared out of thin air in the wilderness outside the town.
Every one of them was dressed in a highly distinctive manner.
The leader had long crimson hair spiking straight into the sky. Its defiance of gravity constantly announced to the others that his strength was anything but ordinary.
After briefly checking the mission information, he whistled and said,
"Looks like we got lucky. Our first team mission brought us into another reincarnator's exclusive Derivative World."
Behind him, a fat man who stood over three meters tall even while seated on the ground grinned broadly as well.
"Hahaha, then we can happily start looting again. Good thing I bought several sets of Slave Shackles before coming in..."
"Bulma may not be worth much in the space, but she's still a rare commodity. Hehehe..."
The fat man let out a strange laugh, and his lower body rapidly swelled.
In another direction stood a slender middle-aged man in a green robe. A scar ran across his entire cheek like a crescent moon.
Seeing that the man remained silent, the red-haired man clicked his tongue and said,
"Moon Demon, throw away that useless hypocrisy. We are reincarnators, villains even worse than the Fourth Calamity!"
"Seizing every resource from these planes to strengthen ourselves is what the space wants us to do."
"Besides... what is there to pity about bugs like those NPCs? Heh..."
The man called Moon Demon did not respond. He merely glanced at the two of them, then drew the enormous cross-shaped sword at his side. Its blade was pitch-black, while gemstones were embedded in its golden hilt. It was none other than one of the Supreme Grade Swords from the One Piece world—Black Blade: Yoru.
"Enough nonsense. Mercenary Tao, our target this time, isn't someone who can be killed easily."
Behind Moon Demon stood a woman with white strips of cloth covering her eyes. She wore nun's attire and was as still as a corpse.
Flames suddenly erupted around the red-haired man. Intense demonic power surged upward, and dense crimson scales began appearing across his skin.
His pupils turned into vertical golden slits. Step by step, the man walked toward Moon Demon, his long tongue licking at the corner of his mouth.
"Come to think of it, Moon Demon, you seem to have never captured a female slave..."
"You haven't even enjoyed this little piglet."
He tore open the woman's nun's attire, exposing a large expanse of snowy-white skin. The fineness of that skin clearly did not resemble that of a human.
The flames on the red-haired man's body instantly burned huge blackened blisters across the woman's skin, yet she remained standing there as though she felt nothing.
The man found it utterly dull. He withdrew his flames, sent the woman flying with a sweep of his hand, then took another two steps toward Moon Demon with ill intent.
"Moon Demon, could it be that beneath that disguised exterior, you're actually a woman..."
Clang!
A sword cry rang out as a chilling blade came slashing down.
The man's pupils shrank. A jade-green sword light swept past him, crashing through the earth and stretching for hundreds of meters, cleaving a massive gash into the desert.
Moon Demon lowered his eyelids and spoke blandly.
"You truly are as worthless as the rumors say, Flame Demon."
"Rest easy. After this mission is complete, we'll settle the matter. Then let that person see which of the Four Demons of the East District is truly qualified to obtain that card."
With that, Black Blade: Yoru instantly returned to Moon Demon's back. He turned directly around amid the wind and sand, disappearing into the night.
The enormous fat man was still snickering obscenely, seemingly unaware that the atmosphere within the team had already fractured—or perhaps he simply did not care.
Flame Demon's pupils returned to normal. He touched his shoulder, where several scales had shattered.
He thought that while this Moon Demon might be unconventional, his strength was indeed exceptional. That swordsmanship and killing intent surely did not belong to the kind-hearted person described in the rumors.
Moon Demon, Moon Demon—he truly was a demon as well.
With a cold snort, he shouted at Sister, whose clothes were in disarray,
"Hurry up and divine Mercenary Tao's location!"
Light flashed in the woman's hand, and a yellow crystal ball appeared. She began using some kind of divination ability. Before long, she said,
"Mercenary Tao is thirteen kilometers to the southeast right now, and... he does not seem to be in good condition."
