Near evening, Clark left the old castle.
As he left, Jino's words still echoed in his mind: "Go tell him how you feel."
Not long after Clark departed, the sound of a sports car engine rose outside the estate.
Dressed in a suit and leather shoes, Lex walked into the hall expressionlessly.
"Butler, prepare some food for me."
As Lex gave Butler his orders, he glanced at Jino, who was sprawled lazily across the sofa.
Lex rolled his eyes impatiently. "My foolish little brother, so who won the bet?"
Hearing Lex's words, Jino narrowed his eyes. "Strictly speaking, I won."
Jino rose to his feet, picked up a small bread roll from the table, and tossed it into his mouth. "The Kent family didn't return the car."
After hearing Jino, Lex pondered for a moment and roughly guessed what method Jino had used.
He stared at the smiling Jino. "Oh? You used Clark's pride?"
Others might not know, but Lex understood Jonathan Kent's stubbornness very well.
Back on the riverbank, the man had shown neither of them the slightest courtesy.
And if they wanted the Kent family to accept the car, naturally, they could only start with Clark.
Jino sighed. "More or less. He even had a huge fight with his father over it."
"But as long as the outcome is good, then it's fine."
Lex fell silent for a moment, then shook his head. "Perhaps you're more suited than I am to take over the family business and become a qualified member of the Ziben Family."
As he spoke, Lex pulled a slip of paper from his pocket and handed it to Jino.
"What's this?"
Jino took the note from Lex, his azure eyes filled with anticipation as he looked at his older brother.
Lex rolled his eyes again. "It's the trading website used by those assassins in the underworld. It's also your reward for winning the bet."
As Jino took the note with a smile, Lex frowned and warned him, "But I need to remind you, don't do anything stupid, Jino."
"Especially don't expose yourself."
Jino shrugged and loosely saluted Lex like a U.S. Marine Corps grunt. "Sir, yes sir."
Without waiting for the dark-faced Lex to start cursing, Jino lightly sprang up to the second floor with the note in hand.
Back in his room, Jino turned on his computer and entered the website address from the note into the browser.
After the page finished loading, a simple web interface appeared before Jino through the cold, somewhat glaring computer screen.
It was an extremely simple webpage, without any cumbersome advertisements. The homepage offered only two options, one black and one red.
"Cleaners" or "Employer."
Jino moved the mouse and clicked the latter. Once the selection was confirmed, the page quickly refreshed again, revealing a long series of blank fields.
Mission type:
Assassination,
Theft
Jino did not hesitate and chose the second option.
Provide a detailed description of the target and transaction location.
Jino thought for a moment, then entered the mission address and every detail about the necklace around the target's neck into the task field.
Enter mission reward. The website will publish it on the Cleaners forum, and the platform will charge a one percent brokerage fee.
Looking at the pricing screen, Jino frowned slightly. After some thought, he set the reward at fifty thousand dollars.
Although Kryptonite was important to him, Jino did not intend to set the price too high and draw unnecessary attention. But if it was too low, no one would accept the mission either.
After weighing it over, fifty thousand dollars seemed like an appropriate amount.
Once he set the price, the computer displayed a payment account and required the transfer to be completed within five minutes.
Jino took out his phone and made a single call, arranging for a staff member at his family bank to transfer fifty thousand dollars to the designated account.
Two minutes later, the page refreshed again, and a notification popped up: "Your mission has been posted. Please wait patiently."
After finishing all that, Jino navigated back to the homepage and selected the Cleaners option.
He was somewhat curious. What would the page look like from the assassins' side?
The page refreshed again.
Soon, a forum-like interface popped into Jino's view.
Jino glanced at several pinned missions written in bold red text, and he could not help laughing.
Mission: Assassinate the Eagle Nation's Lord.
Target bounty: 10 million dollars.
"Ten million dollars to buy the Lord's life?" Jino smacked his lips. This grand lord's old life wasn't worth much, was it?
But then he remembered that the grand lord was merely a puppet pushed forward by major corporations. Ten million did not seem so little after all.
"This mission was purely meant to disgust the Eagle Nation." Jino gleefully came to that conclusion.
When he saw the assassins' comments below, the smile on Jino's face grew even wider.
Anonymous A: "Shit, I'm sure the guy who posted this mission has to be Arab."
Anonymous B: "I support anyone who takes this mission and kills that old puppet who keeps spouting nonsense on TV!"
Jino scrolled down further with the mouse and found that the missions here came in all sorts of varieties.
Among them were, "Five hundred thousand to assassinate my damned eighty-year-old husband."
And, "Two hundred thousand bounty for Amosde Company's commercial secrets."
It could only be said that on the Cleaners forum, the evil in human nature was displayed in all its vivid ugliness. The few missions Jino had just seen were relatively harmless; the even more horrifying, unspeakable missions were enough to leave even Jino silent.
Well, baseness and nobility had always been twin brothers within human nature. They sat at opposite ends of a scale. When one side diminished, the other would only keep gaining weight until the balance tipped and fell toward an extreme.
"Hah."
Letting out a long breath, Jino slowly shut down the computer.
He wondered when someone would take his mission.
At the exact moment Jino shut down his computer and drifted into dreams,
In a hotel somewhere far away in Metropolis,
Countless firearm parts were scattered across the floor. Eaten pizza boxes were piled into a small mountain, while the empty liquor bottles on the ground showed that the hotel's occupant seemed especially fond of drinking.
A bearded middle-aged man stroked his chin. Leaning back in his chair, he mindlessly scrolled through the Cleaners website with one hand while holding a bottle of liquor in the other, taking a sip now and then.
"Hm? Steal a necklace from around some girl's neck. Is this some little brat getting revenge because his love was unrequited?" The middle-aged man eagerly enjoyed the gossip as he called out over his shoulder, "Slade Wilson, want to go snatch a necklace? It'll net us fifty thousand dollars!"
Not far behind him, a tall figure sat on the edge of the bed, his large hand continuously pressing bullets into a magazine.
A deep voice came from the corner.
"Heh, too little. Waste of time."
After loading the bullets, the figure slowly stood and walked toward the light. The shadows gradually receded, revealing a muscular body covered in scars and a right eye hidden beneath a mask.
His assistant asked eagerly, "So what were you doing when you were sixteen? Did you have a girl you secretly liked in high school?"
The man picked up two Katana blades from the floor and wiped away the bloodstains. Expressionlessly, he stared at the cold reflection on their blades. "Wintergreen, when I was sixteen, I was already in the military killing people."
His name was Lex. In the mercenary world, he also had another famous name—Deathstroke!
