Background / History
Shrek is centered on Shrek Academy, an elite institution whose inner city is entered through an ancient, dragon-like city wall. Its streets are paved with blue brick and lined with ancient-style buildings, while its central square is encircled by monumental stone architecture and statues. A statue of Sea God Pavilion Master Dai Yuhao stands in the inner city square 66.
The academy uses intimidation as part of its admissions process. Examinees are brought before a mural of a black dragon whose pressure derives from Di Tian's blood; the mural’s aura is strong enough to make many applicants collapse or struggle to remain standing 66.
Shrek’s authority extends beyond ordinary educational affairs. Within its domain, its own rules take precedence over Federation law, and Shrek students are described as comparable to the emperor’s personal army 80.
Academy System
Admission and Standards
- Applicants submit city recommendation letters before being taken to the examination site 66.
- Four-ring cultivation is regarded as a standard worthy of the academy’s “monster” reputation 66.
- Students who fail to become One-Word Battle Armor Masters before age thirty-five cannot receive a Shrek graduation certificate 81.
Contribution Points
Contribution Points are Shrek’s internal resource currency.
- They cannot be purchased with Federation currency 79.
- Students earn them through academy tasks, including physical labor, metal forging, mecha design, manufacturing, and repair 79.
- Points grant access to teachers and academy teaching facilities 79.
- Expelled students may spend their accumulated points before leaving the academy 79.
Assessments and Student Culture
Shrek promotes teamwork as a core ideal, citing the historical achievements of Tang San and Dai Yuhao’s generation of Shrek Seven Monsters 99.
Its assessment system is presented as severe, though some examinations are exaggerated to pressure students into working harder. Teachers may not directly protect students during assessments; scores can instead be determined from reports by the people or organizations students confronted 127.
Reputation and Influence
- Shrek is widely regarded as the strongest academy, with its historical prestige tied to figures such as Dai Yuhao, the Spirit Ice Douluo 149.
- Its student body is known for exceptional combat ability, Battle Armor, and youth compared with rival academies 149.
- The first-year class earned the title “Strongest Class in Ten Thousand Years” after defeating the second-year students without conceding a victory 118.
- Shrek’s restrictive enrollment means it has no need for the enormous combat venues used by other academies 129.
- The academy’s influence is sufficiently extensive that its graduates later pressured the Federation government to investigate the Spirit Transfer Pagoda 196.
Personnel
- Yun Ming — Sea God Pavilion Master and Shrek’s strongest combatant; later reaches the God level while defending the academy 194 222.
- Silver Moon Douluo — Academy dean who addresses incoming students and announces academic arrangements 79.
- Old Cai — Homeroom teacher for the new-student grade; negotiates Shrek’s participation in the All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Elite Tournament 79 143.
- Wu Zhangkong — Counselor for the new-student grade and instructor who leads students in inter-academy competition 79 128.
- Shen Yi — Counselor for the new-student grade; explains academy rules and Contribution Points 79.
- Long Yeyue — Senior Shrek combatant who helps plan the academy’s survival and revival after the attack 195.
- Zhuo Shi — Senior protector of Shrek’s younger generation during the crisis following the city’s destruction 190 195.
Major Arcs
Enrollment and Early School Life
Chen Yan’s group enters Shrek’s inner city for registration and undergoes the black-dragon mural pressure test 66. The new students are then introduced to the Contribution Point system, strict graduation requirements, and the academy’s elimination-focused culture 79 81.
Inter-Academy Competition
Shrek students face Sun Moon Royal Academy in a publicized contest after being taunted over their identities. Wu Zhangkong promises full marks for victory and selects a six-person team to represent Shrek 128.
During the Star Luo competition, Shrek’s students demonstrate the advantage of their Battle Armor and training against Monster Academy, despite generally lower cultivation among most of the team 149.
Devil Island Training
The Shrek Seven Monsters are sent to Devil Island under strict military-training conditions 170. There, they confront the Seven Old Demons, survive the island’s hostile environment, and endure Nightmare Old Demon’s nerve toxin trial 178 179.
The students are later attacked by Evil Soul Masters during their training. Chen Yan rescues them from an Eight-Ring Soul Douluo using the Golden Dragon Spear 172 173.
Destruction of Shrek City
Amid escalating tension with the Spirit Transfer Pagoda, Shrek prepares for possible retaliation and increases protection for its students 188 190.
Shrek City is bombarded by Soul Guided Missiles, causing catastrophic casualties and destruction. Its inner and outer-city defense shields activate to contain the shockwaves, but the attack devastates the city 193.
The Ghost Emperor and eight Titled Douluo launch two Level 12 Fixed-mounted Soul Guided Missiles at Shrek Academy. Yun Ming draws on the Golden Tree, reaches the divine level, and creates a divine position to neutralize the missiles’ destructive force 194.
Survival and Reconstruction
After the attack, Shrek’s ten-thousand-year foundation is considered destroyed, while Yun Ming falls into a coma. Long Yeyue and Zhuo Shi place the academy’s hope in its new generation 195.
Shrek secretly cooperates with the Tang Sect to support survivors, provide resources for the new generation, create false documents, and plan future development 196. Its younger members are later sent into military training to build strength and influence for Shrek’s eventual reconstruction 204.
After Shrek obtains evidence that the Level 12 missiles were stolen and Yun Ming returns as the continent’s strongest, the political crisis subsides. Shrek is rebuilt 222.
