Background / History

Tang San's soul originated in another world, where he belonged to the Tang Sect and specialized in hidden weapons and poison. Xu Wenlong later revealed that this soul occupied the body of Tang Hao and Lan Yin'er's child, giving him the child's twin Martial Souls: Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer 364 365.

As a child in Holy Soul Village, Tang San received support from Old Jack while practicing the cultivation techniques he brought from his previous life. After entering Notting Academy, he acknowledged Yu Xiaogang as his master and father figure, though Yu Xiaogang had only recently met him 365 366.

Tang San obtained his first Soul Ring with Yu Xiaogang's guidance and advanced rapidly to level 13. His growing attachment to Xiao Wu became possessive when Ryotaro grew close to her; Tang San investigated Ryotaro and planned to kill him during Ryotaro's Soul Ring hunt 25 26. Tang Hao covertly supported Tang San's pursuit, hoping Xiao Wu would eventually become attached to Tang San 27.

Tang San and Xiao Wu later enrolled at Shrek Academy on Yu Xiaogang's recommendation. He passed the entrance examination, participated in Zhao Wuji's test, and entered Shrek as a Great Soul Master 33 36 37 38.

Personality

Tang San presents himself as respectful, virtuous, and devoted to Xiao Wu and Yu Xiaogang. He publicly insists that Xiao Wu is only his “little sister,” despite his jealousy toward Ryotaro and his fear of losing her attention 25 64.

He is highly prideful about his innate talent, Tang Sect techniques, hidden weapons, poison, and future potential as a dual-Martial-Soul wielder. Repeated failures against stronger opponents—particularly when his poison, hidden weapons, and Blue Silver Grass prove ineffective—cause severe crises of confidence 157 158 165.

His self-preservation often overrides loyalty. When Huo Wu's attack threatened him, he dodged without considering Oscar and Ning Rongrong behind him; later, while fleeing Spirit Hall, he considered abandoning Yu Xiaogang as a burden 204 260.

The live broadcast of his past revealed that he was willing to kill an unconscious Yu Xiaogang merely to protect the secret of his hidden weapons. He stopped only when Yu Xiaogang stirred and later resumed his respectful façade 367.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Notting Academy and the Soul Hunting Forest

Tang San entered Notting Academy, became Yu Xiaogang's disciple, and obtained his first Soul Ring. His concern over Ryotaro's closeness to Xiao Wu escalated into a plan to kill Ryotaro during a Soul Ring hunt, but Ryotaro and Soaga evaded him through deception 25 26 27.

Shrek Academy

At Shrek, Tang San joined Xiao Wu and the other students in Zhao Wuji's entrance test. His control skills proved irritating but ineffective against Zhao Wuji's overwhelming strength, foreshadowing the limits of his Blue Silver Grass against superior opponents 36 37.

Crisis of Confidence

Tang San's confidence deteriorated during battles against the Heaven Dou Royal Battle Team and the Ferocious God Team. Dugu Yan's venom resisted his poison remedies, the Shi Mo brothers tore through his control skills, and his hidden weapons failed to affect the Ferocious God Team 157 158 165.

Afterward, he decided that hidden weapons and poison were merely external tools and resolved to focus on Soul Power cultivation 166.

Soul Master Competition

Tang San fought in Shrek's competition matches against Canghui Academy, Kiryu Sento, and Blazing Academy. He relied increasingly on the Eight Spider Lances and Clear Sky Hammer when Blue Silver Grass failed to control stronger enemies 174 196 205.

His desperate Clear Sky Hammer attack against Huo Wu was intercepted by Hino Eiji, whose gravity ability sent Tang San flying and rendered him unconscious 206. The defeat further damaged Tang San's relationship with Yu Xiaogang, who increasingly sought other disciples 208.

Capture and Betrayal

Following Spirit Hall's ambush, Tang San fled with Dai Mubai and Yu Xiaogang. He considered abandoning Yu Xiaogang but kept him alive because Dai Mubai's presence made doing otherwise risky to his reputation 260.

When Yu Xiaogang tried to hand Tang San and Dai Mubai over for his own benefit, the two disciples attacked him and left him incapacitated. Tang San and Dai Mubai were then taken to Spirit Hall 263.

Exposure and Soul Extraction

Xu Wenlong publicly revealed Tang San's possession, Tang Sect past, and the destructive future associated with his rise. After Tang San accepted the Evil Soul Masters' support and considered ruling through them, Xu Wenlong confronted him and removed his soul from the body it had occupied 364 370 371.
