Background

Hans originates from the Teutonic Order State in East Prussia. He trained in a monastic knightly order from childhood but had not received a formal knighthood before being summoned; he arrived with his own armor and knightly equipment. 9 10

Lothar accepts Hans as his squire after his second card draw. Hans immediately swears lifelong fealty, pledging courage, strength, wisdom, and unwavering service to Lothar. 10

Initially a one-star retainer, Hans is regarded by Prajna as weak, but proves hardworking, reliable, and deeply devoted. He serves as Lothar's herald, messenger, tournament companion, trainer, and combatant during the journey to the Holy Land. 9 11 30 36

Lothar grants Hans the fief of Sego and makes him a knight after taking control of Yoglusburg. Although the fief gives him a surname, Hans has not visited Sego or collected taxes there when his character card is updated. 50 66

After King Baldwin IV refuses the Werewolf Bloodline Enhancement Potion, Lothar offers it to Hans. Hans accepts despite his religious upbringing, trusting Lothar to prevent him from becoming a mindless beast. His compatibility with the potion transforms him into a five-star Epic retainer. 66

Hans later becomes Commander of the Royal Knightly Order, taking responsibility for patrols, investigations, discipline, and the order's logistical affairs. 87 147 390 He remains one of Lothar's principal battlefield commanders and is regarded as one of his “left and right arms.” 700 721

Appearance

Hans is initially a handsome, youthful Germanic knight with golden hair and a notably magnetic voice. 9 In human form, he favors knightly armor and later wears the red-and-white surcoat of the Royal Knightly Order. 66

  • Golden hair and a youthful Germanic face. 9
  • Originally wears fine personal knightly equipment, including a helmet decorated with Viking-style horns. 10
  • In werewolf form, grows beyond two meters tall with silver-gray fur, enlarged musculature, an elongated muzzle, and rows of fangs. 66 148
  • His werewolf eyes are amber; his transformed physique is strong enough to make ordinary weapons and armor secondary to his natural resilience. 66 148

Personality

Hans is loyal to an extreme degree. Even when he struggles with Lothar's decisions or worries about the implications of serving alongside witches and supernatural beings, he ultimately identifies Lothar as his creator and sole lord. 11

He is dutiful, earnest, and occasionally naïve in his desire for praise. Lothar frequently entrusts him with errands and burdensome responsibilities, but Hans accepts them with only mild complaint. 36 77 255

Despite his werewolf bloodline, Hans considers himself fundamentally human and rejects werewolves who slaughter innocents. He is troubled by his failures to protect others and worries that he will be left behind as Lothar and the other retainers grow stronger. 149 343 356

Hans retains a strong sense of justice. He condemns cruel lords and is willing to arrange clandestine punishment for those he believes deserve it, though he tries not to create trouble for Lothar. 415 467 577

Undying Body

Hans possesses extraordinary vitality as a Heavy Warrior with a werewolf bloodline. 66 356

  • Survives severe wounds, including deep claw injuries and attacks that would incapacitate ordinary fighters. 148 356
