History
Village-era academy
Shrek Academy originally operated from a small, weathered village near Suotuo City. The village had roughly a hundred households, a decaying wooden fence, an entrance arch, and simple wooden buildings arranged around an open training ground. Its impoverished appearance led many prospective students and parents to doubt that it was a legitimate academy. 52 54
Despite its exterior, the academy maintained unusually strict admissions standards. Applicants had to be younger than thirteen and possess at least Level 21 Soul Power; those who failed either requirement were rejected. 53
Flender actively pursued exceptional applicants such as Ye Feng and Ning Rongrong. Ye Feng agreed to enroll on the condition that Shrek's teachers become honorary elders of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, while the sect would provide the academy with annual resources. 54 55 61
Alliance with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect
Flender, Zhao Wuji, Shao Xin, Li Yusong, and Lu Qibin formally became honorary elders of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. In exchange, the sect supplied Shrek Academy with substantial yearly resources while allowing its teachers to retain their positions at the academy. 102
Ning Fengzhi viewed Shrek as a future institution for training sect disciples. The academy remained nominally under Flender's leadership, but its students, resources, and faculty became closely tied to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. 103 123 182
Relocation and expansion
With Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect support, Shrek Academy was rebuilt on an entire mountain outside Heaven Dou City. The old village campus was abandoned after more than twenty years of use. 128
The new campus was constructed with assistance from the Defense Clan and included grand academy gates, rows of large buildings, and mimic cultivation environments suited to different Martial Souls. Its scale was comparable to Heaven Dou Royal Academy. 135 136
Within half a year, the academy had begun attracting sect disciples and independent applicants because of its powerful faculty, abundant resources, open enrollment, and growing reputation. 139
Admissions and Training
- Shrek Academy's original admissions policy accepted only “monsters”: applicants under thirteen years old with Soul Power at or above Level 21. 53
- Its early tuition was set at one hundred Gold Soul Coins per student. 65
- Physical conditioning was compulsory. Support-type Soul Masters were assigned twenty laps around the village, while battle-type Soul Masters were assigned fifty. 65
- Veteran students such as Tang San and his companions received direct instruction from Flender and the original faculty rather than standardized classes. 140
- The rebuilt academy used mimic cultivation environments and sect-funded resources to accelerate students' cultivation. 128 140
- Unlike Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Shrek did not restrict enrollment to nobles, contributing to its popularity among commoners and merchants. 139 258
