To the rhythm of her steady breathing, Misaka Mikoto ran down a street.
Misaka Mikoto.
Perhaps not everyone in Academy City knew that name.
But if another name was mentioned, then there was no one in all of Academy City who did not know it.

One of Academy City's only seven Level 5 Espers, ranked third among them. She could freely control high-voltage currents, electromagnetic waves, and electromagnetism at a billion volts, and was hailed as the strongest electric-user.
That was Misaka Mikoto, the second-year student of Tokiwadai Middle School before them.
Furthermore, Shirai Kuroko, also a student at Tokiwadai Middle School but a first-year, was Mikoto's underclassman and roommate.
So Misaka Mikoto and Shirai Kuroko were hardly strangers.
And that was precisely why Mikoto was angry.
"That Kuroko... I finally got a chance to catch him, and she actually helped him escape. Aren't you two enemies?"
With those furious complaints in her heart, Mikoto raced down the street without regard for her fluttering skirt.
Tokiwadai Middle School skirts had never been long to begin with.
With Mikoto sprinting at full speed, her athletic ability clearly far from poor, her skirt naturally became rather precarious. Her unexpectedly slender legs swayed continuously, and it was even possible to catch a glimpse beneath her skirt.
Quite a few gentlemen among the pedestrians seized the opportunity to cast glances at Mikoto, their eyes drifting downward at a sixty-degree angle.
However, what entered their sight was not a scene worth feasting their eyes on.
Because beneath Mikoto's skirt, she was wearing safety shorts.
All the gentlemen were instantly disappointed.
