The Holy Grail War.
A battle fought over an omnipotent wish-granting device rumored to be capable of fulfilling any wish.
Among such conflicts, the most famous was undoubtedly the war that took place in "Fuyuki."
On an island nation in the Far East stood a city called Fuyuki City.
Within that city were three mage families known as the Three Families.
Those three mage families were the Tohsaka, Makiri, and Einzbern families.
For their respective purposes, these three mage families used Fuyuki City as their stage to construct a ritual known as the Holy Grail War.
That was right.
The Holy Grail War was a ritual.
Though no one knew what the true Holy Grail was actually like, the Three Families used the spiritual veins beneath Fuyuki City and the large-scale ritual Magic Circle constructed by the Einzbern family to gather the immense magical energy required for the ritual, holding a grand ceremony capable of manifesting the omnipotent wish-granting device known as the Holy Grail.
That large-scale ritual Magic Circle was called the Greater Holy Grail.
Once the Greater Holy Grail had gathered enough magical energy to conduct the ritual, it would choose seven Magi, making them Masters and having them summon seven Servants.
Heroes who had left behind illustrious names in history and myth would become Heroic Spirits after death, traveling to the Throne of Heroes beyond the world and becoming pillars that upheld the world.
Only the world itself could summon Heroic Spirits.
Magi might be able to borrow a small portion of a Heroic Spirit's power through their own abilities and thereby work miracles, but only the world itself could summon the Heroic Spirit's true body.
Yet Fuyuki City's Holy Grail War could use the power of the Greater Holy Grail to connect to the Throne of
