Turning the Daily Prophet over, Harry continued reading.
The very first article he saw caught his attention.
"Latest Report on the Illegal Break-In at Gringotts:
The investigation into the illegal break-in at Gringotts on July 31 is still ongoing. It is widely believed to have been the work of an unidentified Dark Wizard.
The goblins of Gringotts reiterated today that nothing had been stolen. The underground vault searched by the intruder had, in fact, been emptied earlier that same day.
A Gringotts goblin spokesperson stated this afternoon: 'What exactly was stored in the vault is confidential. It would be best if you did not interfere in this matter.'"
Harry remembered Ron mentioning on the train that someone had tried to rob Gringotts, but Ron had not specified the date.
Now it seemed that the date of the attempted robbery was the same day he and Hagrid had gone there.
He remembered that Hagrid had taken out a special package that day, containing a powerful Alchemical Creation.
He had tried to ask Hagrid about the package, but Hagrid had refused to tell him.
Could that Alchemical Creation have been what the thief was trying to steal?
Harry decided to test him. "Hagrid, I think we were in Diagon Alley on the day of the Gringotts break-in too."
Hagrid did not dare meet Harry's eyes and pretended not to hear him.
Half-giants really were bad at keeping secrets. Aside from the oblivious Ron, even Hermione could tell that something was off with Hagrid.
Judging by Hagrid's reaction, that Alchemical Creation was most likely what the thief had been looking for.
Ron returned to the Gryffindor Common Room, probably to play wizard chess with Neville and the others, while Harry and Hermione went to the library as usual.
