Background / History

Tang San spent his early childhood under the care of his neglectful father, Tang Hao. This upbringing left him emotionally detached; after the age of six, Yu Xiaogang became his formal teacher, though their relationship remained distant and Yu Xiaogang relied on Tang San to test unproven theories in practice. 186

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Tang San accepted Du Gu Bo's Green Soul Ring at Xiao Wu's encouragement. The artificial ring contained Du Gu Bo's will and energy, causing intense pain while awakening and evolving Tang San's Blue Silver Grass into a green-gold form. Zhongli supported the process with Water Elemental Power, allowing Tang San to withstand more of the ring's power. 122 123

Tang San came to regard Du Gu Bo as a second father after the latter helped him rise from level 10 to level 20. Under Du Gu Bo's guidance, he cultivated at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, studied practical Soul Skill usage, and gradually recognized the gap between his own diligence and that of high-level cultivators such as Du Gu Bo and Aserine. 124 126 127 128 134

Du Gu Bo later became Tang San's true mentor in personal growth, teaching him that strength requires will, noble character, and ardent purpose rather than cultivation alone. Tang San began to question the shallow teacher-student bond he had shared with Yu Xiaogang and valued Du Gu Bo's sustained care and instruction. 186 187

After accidentally creating a one-way space-time channel with Grass Elemental Power, Tang San was transported to another Douluo World. With incomplete memories and uncertainty about the world, he temporarily lived alongside Huo Yuhao, joined its declining Tang Sect, and adopted the name Tang Yin. 275 276 277

Appearance

Tang San closely resembles the Tang San of the Douluo World, though his hair color, clothing, temperament, and power system differ. 282

  • Green-haired in contrast to the blue-haired Douluo World Tang San. 282
  • His evolved Martial Soul manifests as towering, powerful Azure God Vines. 283
  • His body and blood can generate Azure God Vines when infused with Grass Elemental Power. 204 208

Personality

Tang San is determined, adaptive, and willing to seize dangerous opportunities for growth. He initially took pride in his cultivation routine, but recognizing the much greater diligence of Du Gu Bo and Aserine pushed him to study and train harder. 126 129 134

His experiences with Du Gu Bo made him increasingly reflective about character, responsibility, and the purpose of power. He shows concern for others, rushing to investigate a Grass Elemental explosion out of concern for Du Gu Bo and later helping Huo Yuhao, Tang Ya, and the weakened Angel God. 185 276 278 282

Tang San is also intensely research-driven. He spent three years attempting to analyze the Void Terminal, becoming a secluded and obsessive researcher in the process. 275
