Yu Xiaogang chatted with Dean Kahn until evening, and he felt exhausted from dealing with this old friend. After all, he was not some social terrorist.
So Dean Kahn kept talking about the amusing things he had encountered in the past few years since they had parted ways—some noble child who had thrown a lavish banquet after obtaining a hundred-year First Soul Ring, or someone who had gained a ridiculous skill after absorbing a soul ring.
Yu Xiaogang could only silently watch Kahn's mouth rattle on without pause and play the part of a listener. Every so often, he had to say, "Oh! So that's how it is!" or "Hiss! Really?" while putting on a shocked expression to humor Kahn, which only made Dean Kahn speak with even greater enthusiasm.
He finally endured until the students were dismissed, by which point his face felt stiff. If he had not come to the academy to teach theory, he would have interrupted Kahn long ago.
Yu Xiaogang and Kahn walked through the academy on their way to the cafeteria, and the students respectfully bowed to them. After all, word had already spread among the students that a powerful Soul Elder had arrived to teach theory.
Rumors traveled fast among students. Now, whenever they saw an unfamiliar person walking beside the dean, they knew who it was. Yu Xiaogang felt that children on Douluo Continent matured early because of soul power. After eating on the second floor of the Academy Cafeteria, Kahn led him to a separate Teacher's Dormitory that had long been prepared for him.
"Xiaogang, consider this your place to stay. The front hall has been converted into your office, the back is a study, and the second floor has rooms for resting," Kahn said with a smile.
"Thank you! This dormitory must have cost quite a few Gold Soul Coins. Kahn, you've kept me company all day. Why don't you go back and rest? I still need to organize the books I brought for the upcoming lessons. I'll come find you tomorrow," Yu Xiaogang replied with a smile.
"It's nothing! We've been through life and death together. This is just a small matter! I'll head back first, then." After saying that, Kahn patted Yu Xiaogang on the shoulder and turned to leave.
Yu Xiaogang pushed open the door and entered. Everything had been fully prepared, and he could move in immediately. Dean Kahn really was a good man!
"Come out, Luo Sanpao! Deep Blue! We need to get busy. Organize the books and put them on the shelves, and remember to sort them by category! Luo Sanpao, listen to Deep Blue."
Seeing that no one was around, Yu Xiaogang summoned his martial souls. Shamelessly acting like a capitalist, he put his two martial souls to work. After taking all the books and materials he had brought from his storage Soul Tool and placing them across the floor of the study, he turned and gave instructions to Luo Sanpao and Deep Blue, who had started playing the moment they appeared.
"Okay, Master! Come on, Luo Sanpao, help me put this one on the top shelf! Stop playing with that ball!"
Deep Blue first responded to Yu Xiaogang with a beaming smile, then turned with a stern expression and began directing Luo Sanpao, who was playing with a glowing light orb. Yu Xiaogang could not help but shake his head at the sight. No matter how strong Luo Sanpao was, he was utterly obedient before the little sprite Deep Blue, who looked every bit like a tiny housekeeper.
Yu Xiaogang went up to the Master Bedroom on the second floor. When he opened the door, he found a bedroom already fully furnished. He walked to the wardrobe and opened it, finding several sets of teacher's clothes already inside. He sighed at how considerate Kahn was. No wonder he had risen from Dean of Instruction to dean in less than two years.
After putting away the clothes and personal belongings he had brought, he went downstairs and joined his two martial souls in organizing the study. Once they were done, he asked Deep Blue:
"Deep Blue, how is the simplified Spirit Nurturing Skill coming along? As long as it can strengthen mental power, that's enough. It's for other people, after all, so it doesn't need to be too powerful."
"Master! Don't worry, it's already simplified. I'll transmit the knockoff version to you right away." Deep Blue gave a playful reply and began transmitting the simplified version she had prepared long ago.
After receiving it, Yu Xiaogang ran the cultivation method once himself. Compared with an ordinary Meditation Method, it was already quite good, increasing mental power cultivation speed by a full factor of two.
He once again began the painful task of copying cultivation methods by hand. An hour later, he looked at the two piles of handwritten manuals before him. The knockoff Spirit Nurturing Skill would be called the Mental Power Cultivation Method, while the other simplified Life Nurturing Skill was renamed the Soul Power Cultivation Method. They sounded more balanced that way; their previous names had been far too lame.
He stretched, flexed the hand that had been holding the pen, then took Luo Sanpao and Deep Blue upstairs to wash up and rest. Lying in bed beneath the blanket, he prepared to sleep. Luo Sanpao curled into a ball on his chest, while Deep Blue affectionately rubbed against his cheek before blushing and returning to the Soul Space.
He felt that this was nice, as though he had raised a daughter. Perhaps because he was about to become a teacher, he did not have his usual dreams that night and slept until he woke naturally. Deep Blue had not woken him either, and the sun had already risen. It seemed he could take the day off without cultivating. Cultivation required a balance of work and rest, so he would give himself a holiday.
Meanwhile, far away in the Pope's Palace of Spirit City, the imposing Qian Xunji sat upon a throne carved with ornate patterns, his face dark as he listened to a man in black at his feet report the recent movements of the person under surveillance.
"Hmph! Trash will always be trash! So what if he broke through level thirty? Innate Half Level Soul Power means he will forever be nothing more than an ant! He even dared to set his sights on my disciple, Bibi Dong. What a fool who doesn't know his place! Shadow Guard Eight, there is no need to monitor that trash anymore. He is useless now. Let him spend the rest of his life as a useless teacher in Notting City."
Qian Xunji did not want to waste any more time on trash like Yu Xiaogang. A waste with Innate Half Level Soul Power could only ever amount to this much in his lifetime. Breaking through level thirty had merely been good luck. If Bibi Dong had not pleaded for him, and if Yu Xiaogang had not been born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Qian Xunji would have long arranged for an accident to make him vanish without a trace.
Listening to Qian Xunji's insults, Shadow Guard Eight immediately lowered his head even further, not daring to make the slightest sound. He was merely the Pope's shadow. All he needed to do was carry out his duties.
"Shadow Guard Eight! Go to Bibi Dong's side now and protect her well. If anything goes wrong, don't bother coming back! If you see any blind men approaching Bibi Dong, deal with them in secret. If they have a background, warn them. As for commoners, hmph!"
Qian Xunji's face was grim and his gaze vicious. His disciple was simply too outstanding. Bibi Dong, my dear disciple. Your teacher will protect you well. I won't let people like Yu Xiaogang come near you again. Your teacher is doing this for your own good!
"Yes, Master!"
Shadow Guard Eight immediately answered. A black soul ring flashed beneath him, and he turned into a shadow before vanishing. After seeing that the man had departed as ordered, Qian Xunji stood and left the Pope's Palace for his own chambers.
Having just thought of his disciple Bibi Dong's exquisite beauty and curvaceous figure, the scene shifted back to Notting City Junior Soul Master Academy, where a new day had begun. Yu Xiaogang now stood before a full-length mirror. The well-fitted teacher's outfit in the mirror concealed his good figure. He tied his long black hair into a single ponytail, and his bright eyes shone behind a pair of non-prescription Gold-rimmed Glasses perched on his nose, lending him an air of scholarship. The glasses concealed the imposing, sharp gaze brought about by his Martial Soul Second Awakening. With his beard shaved clean, he looked several years younger.
After admiring himself smugly in the mirror for a while, he headed out to the Academy Cafeteria for breakfast. Today, he still needed to find Kahn and discuss his teaching requirements.
