Ch. 41Giant Squid

Xia Qiu hunted down and devoured a giant squid, then discovered that the meal had started growing arm bases beneath his gills. The change stopped when his Evolution Energy ran out, leaving him to seek more prey to complete the transformation.

  • Xia Qiu chased a giant squid and caught it after its bursts of speed began to fail.
  • The squid wrapped its arms around Xia Qiu’s head to restrain him, but he broke free and killed it with bites near its mantle and eyes.
  • Xia Qiu ate the entire squid and waited to see whether it would make him grow tentacles.
  • A heat current spread through Xia Qiu, and scales fell away beneath his gills as arm bases began to form.
  • The heat current vanished before the arms could fully develop, and Xia Qiu realized he needed more Evolution Energy.

Ch. 42Late

Half a year later, Nami measured ocean currents from a merchant ship while Hachi accompanied her and Xia Qiu grew stronger in the sea. Xia Qiu spotted a Marine warship approaching Arlong Park and swam toward it, preparing to act.

  • Nami finished measuring the current with Hachi’s help and planned to keep observing the weather.
  • Marcel introduced himself to Nami aboard the merchant ship, then trained with heavy dumbbells.
  • Xia Qiu used its ten grown arms to kill several sharks and judged its strength sufficient to fight an officer one-on-one.
  • Xia Qiu sensed a large ship, identified it as a Marine warship, and swam toward it.

Ch. 44Caught Off Guard

Arlong sent Kuroobi and Chuu to attack the Marines after their warship opened fire on Arlong Park. Xia Qiu intervened underwater, killing one Fish-Man and battling Kuroobi, who ended the chapter trapped in Xia Qiu’s tentacles.

  • Arlong offered the Marines a bribe, then ordered Kuroobi and Chuu to attack after their cannons struck Arlong Park.
  • Chuu boarded the warship, dodged gunfire, and knocked down Marines while other Fish-Men attacked the ship.
  • Xia Qiu killed a Fish-Man and exchanged powerful blows with Kuroobi underwater, breaking his horn and fracturing Kuroobi’s foot.
  • Kuroobi tried to slash Xia Qiu’s belly, severed two tentacles, and was bound by the remaining eight.

Ch. 45Slaughter

Xia Qiu dragged Kuroobi into deep water, wore down his strength, and killed him by biting through his torso. Afterward, Xia Qiu resolved to strengthen his tentacles and felt a huge surge of Evolution Energy from consuming Kuroobi.

  • Xia Qiu bound Kuroobi with his tentacles and carried him into deeper water while resisting his attempts to break free.
  • Kuroobi forced one tentacle to snap, but his strength waned as Xia Qiu squeezed him and dragged him toward a seafloor rock.
  • Xia Qiu rammed Kuroobi's head into the rock, then struck him with a pectoral fin and bit through his torso when he tried to escape.
  • Xia Qiu swallowed Kuroobi and decided his tentacles needed greater binding and offensive power, such as hooks.
  • Xia Qiu's wounds began healing with energy from the sharks he had eaten, then a much stronger current surged through his body after consuming Kuroobi.

Ch. 46Become Stronger

Arlong learned that a huge black sea fish had killed Leo and carried off Kuroobi, while Xia Qiu escaped, grew stronger, and began regenerating his tentacles. On a merchant ship, Marcel continued training with Hachi and vowed to become strong enough to hunt pirates.

  • A surviving Fish-Man told Arlong that a black sea fish had killed Leo and taken Kuroobi, and Arlong searched the bloodied water but could not find him.
  • Chuu and two injured Fish-Men retreated from the Marines, and the warship sailed away after its captain was injured.
  • Xia Qiu circled away from the island, shattered a large rock with his tail, and found his strength and combat power had greatly increased.
  • Xia Qiu hid among the rocks and fed as his severed tentacles began to regenerate, resolving to grow stronger before attacking the Arlong Pirates again.
  • Hachi easily blocked Marcel's sword attacks during their sparring session, and Marcel vowed to keep training until he could become a bounty hunter and hunt pirates.

Ch. 47Damn It

A corrupt Lieutenant Commander’s scheme failed when the Marines returned alive, while Nami and Hachi stole money from Marcel’s ship after saying goodbye. A month later, Xia Qiu killed and ate a colossal squid, then spotted Sea Cow Moo Moo returning and prepared to hunt it.

  • The Lieutenant Commander learned that the Marines had returned with wounded sailors and realized his plan to become Captain had failed.
  • Nami and Hachi said goodbye to Marcel, then stole money from wallets aboard his ship.
  • Arlong lamented the missing Kuroobi and five other Fish-Men, and waited for Hachi to return before deciding what to do.
  • Xia Qiu fought and killed a colossal squid, ate it, and chose to keep hunting far from the island.
  • Xia Qiu sensed Sea Cow Moo Moo approaching and resolved to hunt the sea cow.

Ch. 48Sea Beast

Xia Qiu encountered Moo again and easily struck him down, but Moo pretended to be unconscious and escaped toward Cocoyasi Village. Xia Qiu stopped pursuing to avoid drawing the Arlong Pirates’ attention, while Moo surfaced near Hachi and Nami’s boat and broke down crying.

  • Xia Qiu approached Moo and knocked him aside with a tail strike when Moo attacked.
  • Xia Qiu thought Moo had been knocked unconscious, but Moo quickly flipped over and fled.
  • Xia Qiu chased Moo toward Cocoyasi Village, then stopped to avoid fighting near the island and attracting Arlong and the other Fish-Men.
  • Moo noticed Hachi and Nami’s boat, surfaced beside it, and made Nami lose her balance.
  • Hachi recognized Moo and asked where he had been, while Moo burst into sobs.

Ch. 49Eve of War

Two years after killing Kuroobi, Xia Qiu followed the Arlong Pirates’ ship and prepared to attack them using a plan to strand and exhaust them at sea. Meanwhile, three Marine branches sailed to confront the pirates, and Xia Qiu began charging toward the Spab.

  • Colonel Kars and Commodore Brim Brim organized a joint attack by Marines from Branches 16, 77, and 19, and the warships sailed toward Jumada Island.
  • Arlong led Hachi, Chuu, and other Fish-Men aboard the Spab to raid a village, while Moo stayed behind to guard Arlong Park.
  • Nami watched the pirates leave and resumed drawing sea charts, hoping the sea fish that killed Kuroobi would not return.
  • Xia Qiu followed the Spab and assessed his growth and new physical weapons after two years of evolution.
  • Xia Qiu planned to ram and sink the Spab, then harass the Fish-Men as they swam toward land until they were weakened.
  • Xia Qiu shot through the depths and charged toward the Spab.

Ch. 50Attack

The Arlong Pirates’ ship was attacked by a huge tentacled fish that killed Chuu and sank the Spab. Arlong returned to find the creature hunting the surviving Fish-Men and vowed to kill it.

  • Arlong discussed Burnett Island and Mel Island with Hachi and Chuu as the Spab sailed onward.
  • The Spab was struck and began leaking, and Chuu dove into the sea to investigate.
  • A huge tentacled fish attacked Chuu, swallowed him, and fled as Arlong and Hachi pursued it.
  • Arlong failed to catch the fish and returned with Hachi to find the Spab sinking and the creature killing the remaining Fish-Men.
  • Arlong saw the slaughter and swore to kill the fish.

Ch. 51Tracking

Arlong led the surviving Fish-Men back toward Jumada Island after Xia Qiu sank their ship and killed several of their crew. Xia Qiu followed them from a distance, waiting for their stamina to fade before attacking again.

  • Arlong abandoned the chase when Hachi warned that the remaining Fish-Men were vulnerable, and he ordered the wounded treated.
  • Arlong counted only sixteen Fish-Men left in the crew after Chuu and several soldiers were killed, and he decided they would swim back to Jumada Island.
  • Kaneshiro explained that four rams had damaged the ship beyond repair, and Arlong blamed him for its loss.
  • Xia Qiu followed the Arlong Pirates and recalled how he had lured Arlong away, returned to sink the ship, and eaten Chuu and several Fish-Men.
  • Xia Qiu kept roughly seven or eight hundred meters behind the group, waiting for their swimming to exhaust them before making his next attack.

Ch. 52Attack

Xia Qiu ambushed Arlong’s exhausted group and used his Ghost Car Drift to strike Arlong and Hachi before swimming away. Arlong recognized Xia Qiu as a persistent threat and ordered the group to change formation and abandon the wounded.

  • Xia Qiu followed Arlong’s group for two hours as they traveled slowly toward Jumada Island, waiting for them to tire further.
  • Arlong sensed Xia Qiu approaching and called for the group to scatter, but Xia Qiu charged into them and killed two Fish-Men while critically injuring a third.
  • Arlong and Hachi attacked Xia Qiu, but Xia Qiu used Ghost Car Drift to slam into Arlong and strike Hachi with his pectoral fin.
  • Arlong bit Xia Qiu’s tail, but Xia Qiu struck him in the face with it and escaped into the distance.
  • Arlong told Hachi to keep ten meters to his right and behind him, placed the other Fish-Men between them, and ordered them to abandon the wounded.

Ch. 53Anger

Xia Qiu pursued Arlong’s Crew underwater after Arlong abandoned two wounded Fish-Men, using repeated feints and harassment to wear them down and drive them off course. After an hour of slow progress, Xia Qiu charged directly into their midst, beginning the final battle.

  • Arlong left two injured Fish-Men behind, and Xia Qiu swallowed one of them before continuing his pursuit.
  • Arlong arranged his men to protect one another, making it difficult for Xia Qiu to ambush him or Hachi.
  • Xia Qiu repeatedly swam toward Arlong’s Crew and veered away, provoking Arlong while draining the group’s stamina.
  • Arlong’s Crew spent an hour moving slowly and veered well off course from Jumada Island as Xia Qiu kept harassing them.
  • When Arlong’s Crew had grown exhausted, Xia Qiu accelerated into their midst, and the final battle began.

Ch. 54A Fierce Battle

Xia Qiu fought Arlong, Hachi, and the remaining fish-men, using his massive body, teeth, tail, and tentacles to kill several opponents. Arlong and Hachi survived the assault, and Xia Qiu circled back to attack again.

  • Xia Qiu charged through the fish-men, killed one with his bite, and wounded Hachi with his hooked tentacles as Hachi escaped their grasp.
  • Arlong grabbed Xia Qiu’s dorsal fin and bit through its spine, while Xia Qiu charged through the fish-men and killed four of them.
  • Hachi attacked Xia Qiu’s back but failed to break his scales, and Xia Qiu’s tentacles tore flesh from Arlong’s arm and back.
  • Arlong forced his way off Xia Qiu’s back, and Hachi blocked Xia Qiu’s tail strike before Xia Qiu circled around and charged again.

Ch. 55Arlong

Xia Qiu fought Arlong and Hachi, while a Fish-Man soldier fled. Arlong sacrificed himself so Hachi could escape toward Fish-Man Island, and Xia Qiu set off after Hachi after killing Arlong.

  • Xia Qiu attacked Arlong and Hachi, but both evaded his strikes and the surviving Fish-Man soldier fled.
  • Xia Qiu briefly disappeared beneath the seabed, then returned after feeding on a shark and resumed attacking them.
  • Arlong told Hachi to escape, return the Fish-Man soldiers who had stayed behind to Fish-Man Island, and take a circuitous route to evade Xia Qiu.
  • Hachi left as Arlong charged Xia Qiu and fought him for ten minutes.
  • Xia Qiu killed and ate Arlong, then pursued Hachi toward Jumada Island.

Ch. 56Bold Idea

After eating Arlong, Xia Qiu grew stronger and searched for Hachi near Jumada Island, but found no trace of him. He defeated the sea beast Moo again and decided to try taming him rather than eating him.

  • Xia Qiu chased the fleeing Fish-Man and swallowed him, then continued toward Jumada Island as Arlong's energy strengthened his body.
  • Xia Qiu reached Jumada Island and searched for Hachi for an hour, but found no sign of him.
  • Xia Qiu went after Moo, caught him after a chase, and knocked him down when he tried to flee.
  • Xia Qiu struck Moo several times, then noticed his nose ring and considered taming him as a companion.
  • Moo trembled and covered his head with his fins when Xia Qiu smiled at him.

Ch. 57The Marines Arrive

Xia Qiu trained Moo to stay put and let him eat the remains of his hunts, while three Marine warships approached Cocoyasi Village and Arlong Park. Nami, Genzo, and Nojiko reacted to the arrival, and the Fish-Man guards went into the sea to find Moo.

  • Xia Qiu repeatedly stopped Moo from escaping, then hunted a whale shark and let Moo eat what remained.
  • Nami spotted three Marine warships and left Arlong Park through the back entrance.
  • A Cocoyasi villager told the village that the Marines had arrived, and Genzo decided to contact them and make them stay to protect the villagers and Nami.
  • The four Fish-Man guards chose to retreat into the sea and seek out Moo so he could help them deal with the Marines.

Ch. 58Home

Nami learned that the villagers knew she had joined Arlong’s Crew to protect them, and she went home with Nojiko while Genzo went to guide the Marines. Xia Qiu killed four more Fish-Men as the Marines found Arlong Park deserted, and Genzo arrived to tell them where Arlong had gone.

  • Nojiko and Genzo told Nami that the Marines had come to defeat Arlong’s Crew, and Genzo urged her to go home.
  • Nami told Genzo that Arlong and his crew had gone to Bernat Sea Island, but Genzo went to find the Marines himself while Nojiko took Nami home.
  • Commodore Brim Brim ordered three Marine warships to bombard Arlong Park, then led Marines ashore when no one responded.
  • Xia Qiu spotted four Fish-Man soldiers searching for Moo and ate them, frightening Moo into staying still.
  • Brim Brim and the other Marine officers found Arlong Park empty, and Genzo arrived with villagers to tell them where Arlong had gone.

Ch. 59Leaving

After the Marines failed to find the Arlong Pirates, Xia Qiu and Moo left Jumada Island to explore the East Blue while Xia Qiu considered whether he was ready for the Grand Line. Nami and Nojiko hoped to live peacefully, but Nami awoke when someone began patting her.

  • Colonel Lester told the residents that the Marines had searched the nearby islands and villages without finding the Arlong Pirates, and promised to patrol the area.
  • After waiting ten days for Hachi, Xia Qiu left Jumada Island with Moo and considered traveling to the Grand Line, deciding to wait until he felt stronger and more prepared.
  • Nami told Nojiko she would wait to change her Arlong Pirates tattoo in case the crew returned, and the sisters hoped Arlong would never come back.
  • Nami and Nojiko went to bed together, chatted about the past, and drifted off to sleep.
  • Nami woke from a dream when someone patted her.

Ch. 60Hachi's Decision

Nami learned from Hachi that the Black Fish had killed Arlong and wiped out the Arlong Pirates, leaving Hachi as the sole survivor. Hachi decided to stay at Nami’s house while searching for Moo and the other Fish-Men and training to avenge Arlong, as Nami secretly thanked the Black Fish and named it Black Star.

  • Hachi told Nami that the Black Fish had killed Arlong and the rest of the Arlong Pirates, then recounted their fatal encounter near Burnett Island.
  • Nami learned that Hachi had returned to find the Fish-Men left behind, but they and Moo had disappeared, and she urged him to return to Fish-Man Island.
  • Hachi declared that he would stay, find Moo and the other Fish-Men, and sharpen his swordsmanship to kill the Black Fish in revenge for Arlong.
  • Hachi caught Nojiko eavesdropping, and Nami explained that he was her sister and persuaded Nojiko to let him stay in their secluded home.
  • Nami showed Hachi the storage room and later looked at her drawing of the Black Fish, thanked it for saving them, and decided to call it Black Star.

Ch. 61Memorial

In Cocoyasi Village, Nami bought Hachi six swords, but he refused to leave until he killed the Black Fish and revealed where the Arlong Pirates had hidden their treasure. The chapter ended with the Black Fish spraying water beside a sea cow in the ocean.

  • Hachi complained that Nami's six new swords were too light, but accepted them after she explained their advantages.
  • Hachi told Nami that he would stay until he killed the Black Fish and revealed a hidden Arlong Pirates treasure worth at least two hundred million Belly.
  • Nami agreed to let Hachi stay in the orange orchard for up to five years, hoping to claim the treasure afterward.
  • Marcel arrived with the swords, then challenged Hachi to spar while Nojiko and Nami prepared dinner.
  • Nami told Nojiko that she planned to get a black cross-shaped star tattoo to remember a friend she could never speak with again.
  • A sea cow watched as the Black Fish sprayed a huge column of water beside a sinking blue whale carcass.
