"Uchiha Tang Ping, take Squad 404 and bring back Sasuke. Protect those genin who went ahead in pursuit while you're at it!"

Jiraiya did not beat around the bush. The moment they met, he got straight down to business.

No matter what, Sasuke was a registered Konoha ninja.

There were plenty of missions he could be assigned.
