Tang Ping did not use swords himself, since his Ama-no-Murakumo Sword was stronger than any Divine Weapon. He had obtained it for his disciple.

As her teacher, he naturally had to give his disciple a few gifts.

The Kusanagi Sword was a fine gift.

After awakening her Mangekyo, Izumi's ability to protect herself rivaled that of a Super Kage, but her offensive power was lacking. She needed a weapon to make up for that weakness.
