The Gu Family has endured for roughly three thousand years and is associated with its founder, Gu Tianren. Three centuries before Chen Ping’an’s rise, the family heavily invested in a gifted son-in-law who entered the Jade Balance Grandmaster realm at twenty-five and reached the Great Qian Hidden Dragon Rankings. In later generations, the family remained the strongest of Azure Dragon Province’s three major noble families, but its position weakened as Gu Tianren aged and his old injuries worsened. Its prominence made the alliance with Chen Ping’an politically consequential: rival powers feared a single family possessing both Gu Qingcheng and a Hidden Dragon-ranked son-in-law. The Xue and Wang Families consequently moved closer together and used public rumor to undermine the Gu Family’s momentum. 638
