When Ang returned to the room, it was completely quiet, with only the magic lamp in the corner flickering now and then.
Quintina was curled up on the bed, flipping through a Magic Book with a silver-inlaid cover, though she seemed distracted.
Hearing his footsteps, she immediately looked up. "You're back."
"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Ang walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, his tone gentle.
Quintina turned slightly, setting the book aside as she complained softly, "I can't sleep when you're not here."
There was a hint of coquettishness in her voice.
Ang reached out and touched her face, warmth brushing against his palm.
He took the four heavy volumes of Chronicles of the God-Demon Battlefield from his waist pouch and placed them one by one beside the bed. "Want to read them? Hansen gave them to me. They record every public event since the God-Demon Battlefield was established."
Quintina glanced at the yellowed covers and archaic script, then shook her head. "You read them. It's enough if you tell me about them."
Ang chuckled, leaned back against the headboard, placed a cushion behind his waist, and casually pulled out a volume to read.
Quintina slowly moved to his side, gently leaning into his arms and wrapping her arms around his waist. She closed her eyes, and her breathing gradually steadied.
As Ang read, he absentmindedly stroked her hair. The night was quiet, and time itself seemed to slowly freeze.
After an unknown amount of time, the sound of turning pages stopped. Under the lamplight, Ang had fallen deeply asleep as well.
Quintina lay on his chest, her arms still tightly wrapped around him, her sleeping face peaceful and serene.
At dawn, Ang slowly opened his eyes and discovered a familiar weight pressing on his
