Ch. 1Butterfly's Wings

After Ang was gravely injured defending his squad from a demon, Captain Lika refused to abandon him and bought him a diluted Healing Potion. Ang eventually woke in a strange world, realized he might have transmigrated, and was left alone in the camp as Lika led the soldiers out to confront another demon squad.

  • Ang blocked a demon’s attack, and his squad carried him unconscious to Shamat Mage, who warned that he might never wake.
  • Lika insisted that the soldiers bring Ang back to camp and gave him the demon’s hand axe as his share of the spoils.
  • After Ang remained unconscious for nearly five days, Lika spent three Gold Wacks on a diluted Basic Healing Potion and poured it into his mouth.
  • Ang briefly awoke but could not move or speak, then fell unconscious again.
  • Ang woke late at night, wondered whether he had transmigrated, and heard Lika order the squad to attack a demon squad in the mountains.
  • Lika and the soldiers left the camp, leaving Ang alone as he struggled to understand his new situation and the war against the demons.

Ch. 2True Transmigration

Li Wei woke in the body of Ang, a soldier from the Grand Duchy of Tan'anster, and their souls and memories gradually fused. After finding himself alone in an abandoned camp, Ang gathered food and weapons and set out to follow the army’s retreating trail.

  • Li Wei’s soul entered Ang’s injured body, and their memories began to merge as Ang recovered from his head wound.
  • Ang learned that he had served four and a half years as a Senior Warrior Attendant and had been preparing to return home after his service.
  • Ang awoke fully, accepted his new life, and decided to explore the unfamiliar world.
  • Ang searched the deserted camp, found water and bread, and discovered that the main force had withdrawn without him.
  • Ang gathered food, a short hand axe, and a shield, then left through the western gate to follow the army’s footprints.

Ch. 3Catching Up to the Troops

Ang escaped the forest after spotting smoke that suggested Demons were burning a path, then reached the Logistics Regiment’s new camp and reunited with Jack. He learned he had been unconscious for four or five days and that his squad and two others had gone missing on a scouting mission.

  • Ang spotted smoke rising from the forest and feared nearby Demons, so he fled along the retreating troops’ tracks.
  • Ang ran through the forest and across a grassland until he found the Logistics Regiment’s crude new camp.
  • Jack and the other soldiers welcomed Ang, who asked why they had left him behind during the retreat.
  • Jack explained that Ang had seemed dead, that the retreat had begun after three squads failed to return from a mission, and that Ang had been unconscious for four or five days.
  • The Shamat Mage came to see Ang and marveled that he had survived after issuing him a death notice.

Ch. 4A Shallow Understanding of the World

Ang reflected on his former military life and recalled what he had learned about the Grand Duchy of Tan'anster, its people, and the Demon invasion of the Maple Sugar Plane. He resolved to make the most of his new life and explore the wider world.

  • Ang remembered his friendship with Jack and the battlefield experiences that had taught him about Healing Potions and life in the Logistics Regiment.
  • Ang recalled the high cost of Healing Potions, the low wages and modest living conditions of commoners, and his own family's circumstances.
  • Ang reviewed the world's magical and warrior ranks, the noble hierarchy of Tan'anster, and the duke's rule.
  • Ang recalled that Demons had invaded the Maple Sugar Plane, disrupting its economy and threatening a major source of maple sugar.
  • Ang decided to pursue the ideas he could not realize on Blue Star and to see more of the world.

Ch. 5Initial Plans

After returning to camp, Ang rested, trained with a hand axe, and meditated to explore his body's abilities. He discovered he could control a warm current within himself and ended the day feeling stronger, while preparing for future dangers.

  • Ang settled into camp, ate dinner, and slept through a tense but uneventful night.
  • Ang ate breakfast, checked his equipment, and trained with a hand axe until he found his rhythm and shattered a wooden target.
  • Ang resolved to master his body's combat skills before the camp's peace ended.
  • Ang meditated and sensed a warm current flowing through his body, which he guided through his limbs to strengthen them.
  • Ang finished meditating with sharper senses and no pain at the back of his head, then faced the future with confidence.

Ch. 6The Squad Returns

Ang learned that a mission party had encountered powerful demon scouts and returned with heavy losses. After Captain Lika told him that several of their comrades had died, Ang resolved to grow stronger and fight the demons.

  • Ang learned from Jack that Magoli, Kukaru, and Lucas’s missing squad was being searched for and that a mysterious messenger had brought orders to Queby.
  • At dawn, Brigade Leader Grunak returned with three squadrons, and Queby summoned Grunak, Magoli, Kukaru, Lucas, and Erig to hear their report.
  • Grunak and the commanders told Queby that they had followed strange tracks, encountered a powerful Foul Spirit Scout squad, and suffered severe losses while retreating.
  • Erig advised Queby to replenish supplies and weapons and send scouts to locate the enemy, while Queby ordered the survivors to rest and prepare for battle.
  • Captain Lika told Ang that Fanshi, Nar, Kanglu, and Ben had been killed, and Ang vowed to become stronger and avenge his fallen comrades.

Ch. 7Back into the Forest (1)

After surviving a devastating clash with Foul Spirit Scouts, Lika, Enbei, and the other warriors returned to camp, where Enbei recounted the battle to Ang. Ang was left facing the threat of the Demons and resolved to adapt to the dangers ahead.

  • Ang comforted Lika and urged him and Enbei to eat and rest after their ordeal.
  • Enbei recalled how the Foul Spirit Scouts ambushed the three companies, killing many warriors before Lika ordered a retreat and Grunak rallied the survivors.
  • The warriors drove the Demons back, but Grunak ordered an immediate withdrawal and promised they would return for their fallen comrades.
  • At a safe place, Grunak told the survivors to rest while they planned to recover the bodies.
  • Enbei described the Demons' strength to Ang, who tried to reassure him and then watched the distant forest, determined to adapt.

Ch. 8Into the Forest Again (2)

Ang woke early and ate breakfast before the Eighth Logistics Regiment prepared to enter the forest again with three other regiments to open a route into the battlefield. Grunak assigned the depleted First Brigade to secure the operation, leaving Ang and his companions to rest and prepare for the coming mission.

  • Ang checked on the sleeping Lika and Enbei, ate breakfast, and decided to patrol the camp.
  • Queby told the officers that the Second, Third, and Fourth Logistics Regiments would arrive that night to join the Eighth Logistics Regiment in opening a route into the battlefield.
  • Grunak announced the mission to the First Brigade and said the other regiments would support them.
  • Grunak told First Brigade officers that fewer than a hundred soldiers remained and assigned the brigade to secure the route-opening operation.
  • Grunak ordered the soldiers to recover their strength and prepare, and Ang returned to his tent.

Ch. 9Into the Forest Again (3)

Ang watched three Logistics Regiments arrive to support the Ninth Regiment’s mission, then learned more about their supplies and Green Mane Horses from Jack. The commanders finalized plans to open a road, while Ang prepared to gather information for the difficult work ahead.

  • Ang kept to his morning routine, trained, and hurried to the camp gate after feeling the ground tremble.
  • Queby welcomed Poppy Locke, Marvin Gene, and Amos Sto, who arrived with more than 1,500 soldiers and nearly 200 horses from the Second, Third, and Fourth Logistics Regiments.
  • The four regiment commanders planned how to open a road, assigning defenses, supply protection, engineers, and manpower.
  • Ang inspected the expanded camp and headed to Mike to learn about the covered supplies.
  • Jack told Ang that the reinforcements’ horses were ordinary Green Mane Horses from the Yamaga Plane, valued for transport and support.

Ch. 10Into the Forest Again (4)

Ang learned about the reinforcements and their supplies, then encouraged Lika and Enbei by sharing the news. The regiments began clearing a road through the forest under guard, and Ang’s First Brigade extended its patrol farther ahead as work progressed.

  • Ang learned from Jack that Poppy Locke, Marvin Gene, and Amos Sto commanded the other regiments, and that the reinforcements brought Green Mane Horses, supplies, and many personnel.
  • Ang gave Jack a Silver Wack, then told Lika and Enbei about the reinforcements, lifting their spirits.
  • Commander Queby, Poppy Locke, Marvin Gene, and Amos Sto assigned the regiments their duties; Grunak ordered the First Brigade to guard the road-clearing operation.
  • Ang and the First Brigade entered the forest as the other soldiers felled trees and built a road wide enough for ten Green Mane Horses.
  • As the road-clearing work advanced, Grunak extended the First Brigade’s patrol range by one gong, and Ang and his teammates continued scouting ahead.

Ch. 11Arrival at the Old Camp

Ang and the Logistics Regiment cleared a road to the old camp, rebuilt it into a fortified outpost for the duchy's approaching main force, and completed their construction mission. As reconnaissance returned without reports of enemy activity, Ang trained and reflected on his growing strength while waiting for what lay ahead.

  • The Logistics Regiment used rotating shifts to clear a road toward the old camp, while Ang tested the road and asked Mike about the white powder binding its surface.
  • The commanders ordered the old camp cleared and rebuilt into a larger complex of two-story barracks, a command post, and a logistics center.
  • The regiment divided its forces between camp construction and roadwork, then cleared the road to the Military Department's designated area and expanded the camp several times over.
  • Ang realized the vacant barracks were meant for reinforcements as the regiment continued building defenses and preparing the camp for the duchy's main force.
  • After construction ended, reconnaissance parties returned with no significant news, and Ang trained, sought advice from veterans, and recognized that he had reached Senior Squire strength.

Ch. 12Duchy Regular Army

Ang watched the Duchy's main force arrive, then accepted the Logistics Regiment’s new living arrangements and resolved to improve himself after seeing the elite soldiers’ strength. He began an intensive routine of physical, tactical, and weapon training while continuing to strengthen his control over Qi.

  • Ang and the other Logistics Regiment members welcomed the Duchy's cavalry, infantry, and supply convoy as they entered the camp.
  • Regiment Commander Queby announced that the Logistics Regiment would surrender its wooden barracks to the main force and live in tents while guarding supplies.
  • Ang recognized the gap between his equipment and abilities and those of the main force’s soldiers, and decided to use the opportunity to train.
  • Ang trained before dawn, practiced battle scenarios and battle-axe techniques with his teammates, sought veterans’ advice, and meditated to improve his control of Qi.

Ch. 13War Begins to Stir

The Duchy's forces used fire to expose the Demons and launched a coordinated assault under Count Meredith and Count Hugh Pierre. After gaining ground, they withdrew in order and built a fortified position, leaving the first battle seemingly secured but the Demons still capable of fighting.

  • Count Meredith and Count Hugh Pierre divided the cavalry and infantry into coordinated assault roles while the Logistics Regiment prepared the forest with black powder.
  • Ang sensed the black powder could ignite, and Meredith ordered the Logistics Regiment to set the forest ablaze, driving the Demons from the smoke and flames.
  • Meredith sent the cavalry into a pincer charge, then Count Hugh Pierre led the Black Armor Infantry Regiment in an attack that inflicted heavy losses on the Demons.
  • As the Demons adapted and counterattacked, Meredith ordered cavalry raids to support the pressured infantry, which regrouped and pushed forward.
  • When the Demons retreated in formation, Meredith stopped the pursuit and ordered the Infantry Regiment to withdraw to a new position.
  • Ang and the Logistics Regiment dug trenches and raised barricades there, and Meredith inspected the completed defensive line.

Ch. 14Cleaning Up the Battlefield

After the first battle, Ang helped clean the battlefield and resolved to grow stronger after witnessing the cost of war. That night, Meredith launched a new attack on the Demons using catapults, first disrupting their sense of smell and then bombarding their camp with boulders.

  • Ang and the Logistics Regiment collected and cremated the dead, while Ang counted nearly a thousand Demons and about 280 human casualties.
  • After returning to camp, Ang slept while Meredith and the commanders discussed how to attack before Demon reinforcements arrived.
  • Meredith combined Malkos and Carrol's proposals, ordering catapult attacks and small-scale harassment while Count Hugh Pierre called for more scouting.
  • The Second, Third, and Fourth Logistics Regiments moved catapults to the defensive line and launched liquid that suppressed the Demons' sense of smell.
  • Meredith ordered the catapults loaded with massive boulders, which the Human Army fired into the confused Demon camp, crushing or injuring many Demons.

Ch. 15Suppressing the Demons

Meredith used nighttime harassment attacks and catapult fire to force the demons to retreat through a canyon, then led a surprise cavalry and infantry assault that drove them from the valley. The human army halted its pursuit and built defenses, preparing for the demons’ possible reinforcements.

  • Meredith ordered the Infantry Regiment to harass the demon camp while catapults bombarded pursuing demons, forcing the Foul Spirit Commander to retreat beyond their range.
  • Meredith ordered scouts to track the demons and had the catapults advance, while the army pushed forward through the canyon.
  • After a night of fighting, Meredith sent the rested Cavalry Regiment into a three-direction pincer attack, followed by the Infantry Regiment, routing the demons.
  • Meredith stopped the cavalry’s pursuit at the canyon exit, and Count Hugh Pierre ordered the army to establish a fortified camp.
  • Ang and the Logistics Regiment helped distribute supplies and build defenses as Meredith and Count Hugh Pierre discussed preparing for demon reinforcements.

Ch. 16A Brief Calm

After their victory over the Demons, Ang and the Logistics Regiment strengthened the canyon defenses and received rewards for their work. The defeated Dawuyura returned to the Demon camp, where Grumka ordered a reorganization as both armies prepared for future battles.

  • Ang and his companions gathered boulders for the catapults while other Logistics Regiment members reinforced the canyon defenses.
  • Meredith and Count Hugh Pierre ordered the army to hold the canyon, improve its defenses, and send cavalry to scout for nearby Demons.
  • Meredith announced that the human regiments had killed more than 3,500 Demons and rewarded the Logistics Regiment; Ang received extra pay for assembling catapult ammunition.
  • Dawuyura returned to the Demon camp with roughly half his force, and Grumka reprimanded him before ordering the troops reorganized and scouts dispatched.
  • Dawuyura was reassigned and vowed to avenge his defeat as the Demons prepared for another war.

Ch. 17Ambush

Ang and the Logistics Regiment were caught in Dawuyura’s ambush while the Allied Forces fought Gewalong’s army on the plains. Ang and Lika discovered the Demons’ weakness and fought back-to-back as the canyon battle continued.

  • Meredith moved the Allied Forces’ defensive line to the edge of the Kewenhua Grand Plains and prepared to attack the Demon camp.
  • Gewalong ordered a counterattack, and Meredith’s catapult bombardment failed when the Demons withdrew beyond its range.
  • Dawuyura led a thousand Demons onto the canyon cliffs and waited for the humans to focus on the battle ahead.
  • Meredith’s archers used enchanted arrows to pierce Demon armor, and cavalry and infantry charges disrupted the advancing Foul Spirit Legion.
  • Dawuyura ambushed the retreating Logistics Regiment from the cliffs, killing Enbei and destroying catapults as the column collapsed into chaos.
  • Ang identified the Demons’ necks as their weak point, then joined Lika to fight off attackers back-to-back.

Ch. 18Different

Ang and Lika fought off the Demons, and Ang learned to channel Qi force into his axe before reinforcements arrived. The Infantry Regiment defeated the Demons and killed Dawuyura, while Ang and Lika were badly wounded and taken to a temporary camp for treatment.

  • Ang circulated Qi force through his body to recover his strength, and he and Lika fought together against the Demons.
  • Ang successfully channeled Qi force into his axe, making it powerful enough to cut through the Demons’ armor, and killed four Demons with Lika’s help.
  • As the Demons focused their attacks on Ang, he and Lika retreated toward the battlefield, where the Infantry Regiment arrived to support them.
  • Dawuyura charged into battle, but the Infantry Regiment surrounded him and killed him as the Demons’ forces were defeated.
  • Ang and Lika collapsed with serious injuries, and the Infantry Regiment carried them to a temporary camp, where medical personnel treated Ang before he fell asleep.

Ch. 19The Battle Hangs in the Balance

After the Demons’ rear attack devastated the human Logistics Regiment, Meredith received confirmation that the duchy would send supplies and reinforcements, and shifted to a defensive strategy. As both armies settled into a stalemate, Gewalong ordered infiltration and sabotage while the humans struggled against the Demons’ ability to grow stronger by consuming corpses.

  • Count Hugh Pierre wrote a report on the Logistics Regiment’s losses, and Meredith sent it to the duchy, which arranged another Logistics Regiment and other reinforcements.
  • Ang treated Lika’s broken arm with a Lesser Healing Potion, then meditated on his stronger Qi force and planned to ask Lika about its use when he awoke.
  • Gewalong concluded that Dawuyura’s attack had destroyed human catapults, buying the Demons time despite Dawuyura’s presumed death.
  • Meredith received the duchy’s promise of support, halted attacks, strengthened the human defensive line, and sent scouts to monitor the Demons.
  • Gewalong responded to the human defense by ordering sustained pressure and small Elite Troops units to infiltrate and sabotage human lines and supply routes.
  • Meredith ordered his forces to recover or burn fallen soldiers’ bodies after learning that the Demons consumed corpses to replenish and strengthen themselves.

Ch. 20From Logistics to the Front Lines

After Lika recovered from his wounds, Ang sought advice from Infantry Regiment veterans about Qi force and the Level 1 Warrior rank, then shared what he learned with Lika. Ang received a reward for the Demon ambush and was ordered to transfer to the Infantry Regiment, where he headed after saying goodbye to his comrades.

  • Ang cared for Lika as he recovered and asked Logistics Regiment soldiers how to control Qi force, but none could teach him.
  • Ang visited the Infantry Regiment, where Jada and other veterans explained Qi force techniques, Enchanted Weapons, and what it meant to be a Level 1 Warrior.
  • Ang told Lika what he had learned, and they continued practicing and studying Qi force together.
  • Ang received nine Gold Wack for the Demon ambush and gave three to Lika as his share.
  • Commander Queby informed Ang that he had been ordered to transfer to the Infantry Regiment, and Ang accepted while asking that his plan to retire after his service be noted.
  • Ang told Lika about the transfer, said goodbye to him and his other comrades, and set off for the Infantry Regiment.
