Early Life and Appointment as a Teacher

Orochimaru graduated early from the Ninja Academy because of the First Great Ninja War. His wartime experiences later inform his discussions with Chen about survival, death, and the shortness of human life 278.

Uchiha Yama encouraged Chen to choose Orochimaru as his teacher, ostensibly to help avenge his father. Yama later reveals that placing Chen in Orochimaru’s squad was also a political investment: he wanted an ally beside a potential future Hokage 33 281.
