Background / History

Katerina graduated from the Imperial Magic and Martial Arts School five or six years before Jialan. By the time she encounters him at the Ice Leopard cave, she is an Intermediate Peak Assassin. She had spent three or four days waiting for the mature Nishang Grass but could not defeat the pair of Ice Leopards herself. After Jialan's group kills the beasts, she offers him 100 Jintana for the herb and requests a dose of the resulting Nishang Potion. 7 8

She later reunites with Jialan in the Misty Forest while traveling with Argyle Capet and Kaisalin. Their group is attacked by infiltrators from the Aus Empire, prompting Katerina to recruit Jialan telepathically with an offer of military merit. 10

Following the discovery of an Ancient Elven Ruins map, Katerina and her companions entrust it to Jialan for decipherment. She warns him that an escaped Assassin may still be pursuing him. 12

Katerina subsequently joins the secret operation against a Necromancer operating in the Misty Forest. She believes a traitor within the Empire—possibly connected to the military or royal family—may be cooperating with the Necromancer or Aus Empire forces. 19

During the hunt, she intercepts the Necromancer alone after Jialan identifies the enemy's route. The attempt is a trap: she is struck by a Dark Element puppet, and her left arm begins to corrode. Argyle stabilizes the injury with Light Battle Qi, while Jialan completes her treatment with the Soothing Rain Spell. 21 22

Appearance

Katerina is a beautiful woman who typically wears black leather armor suited to an Assassin's mobility and concealment. Her clear voice is frequently described as cold. 7

Personality

Katerina is decisive, blunt, and pragmatic. Her first negotiation with Jialan is direct: she states what she wants, offers compensation, and leaves quickly to continue her mission. 7 8

She is highly suspicious of political motives and willing to voice dangerous conclusions, including the possibility that Imperial insiders are colluding with enemy forces. She is also willing to take personal risks, as shown when she independently moves to intercept the Necromancer. 19 21

Despite her sharp manner, Katerina is protective of Kaisalin and operates closely with her allies. She also shows confidence in Jialan's healing ability after witnessing it firsthand. 11 20

Ice Leopard and Nishang Grass

Katerina enters the story pursuing Nishang Grass at the Ice Leopard cave. Unable to defeat the leopards alone, she secures the herb from Jialan after his group kills them and commissions him to brew Nishang Potion. 7 8

Aus Empire Infiltrators

While on an Imperial mission with Argyle and Kaisalin, Katerina's group is surrounded by Aus Empire infiltrators. She calls Jialan into the battle and personally eliminates the enemy Priest and Archer through stealth attacks. 10 11

Ancient Elven Ruins Map

Katerina helps recover a Scroll identified as a map to Ancient Elven Ruins. She and her companions leave it with Jialan because of his ability to decipher Ancient Elvish. 12

Necromancer Investigation

Katerina joins Argyle, Kaisalin, Shadow, and Jialan in investigating an Intermediate Peak Necromancer and possible Imperial collusion with the Aus Empire. She scouts for evidence, fights undead, attempts to intercept the Necromancer, and is wounded by a Dark Element puppet. 19 20 21

Flight to the Elven Ruins

After the Necromancer's defeat, Katerina helps defend the group against pursuing enemies. Though injured, she continues using her stealth and speed while the party retreats toward the Ancient Elf ruin. 23 24
