Su He found the simple, placid life of cultivation far from dull; he relished it.
Spirit Hall's plans within the Heaven Dou Empire were progressing exceptionally well. Not only had Dugu Bo, formerly a guest adviser on the Heaven Dou Imperial Family's side, been won over by Spirit Hall and become one of its elders, but the Immortal Herbs he possessed had also become Spirit Hall's property.
During the day, Su He still went to the Mimicry Cultivation area at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. The Geng Metal Power there made controlling his Adamant Qi twice as effective with half the effort.
At night, he returned to the Crown Prince's Palace to cultivate Soul Power with Qian Renxue after she had finished handling the day's affairs.
For some reason, their martial souls always seemed to possess a powerful affinity. Cultivating Soul Power together was more than thirty percent faster than cultivating alone.
Of course, Su He deeply sympathized with Qian Renxue's exhausting workload, so every week, he set aside two evenings to stop cultivating and take her around Heaven Dou City.
"When will we be able to go wherever we want without a care in the world?"
One night, while the two were boating on Heaven Dou Silver Lake, Qian Renxue had leaned against Su He's chest and asked him that. Su He still vividly remembered the boundless longing in her eyes.
At the time, he had merely smiled and stroked her cheek, without giving her a definite answer.
Perhaps ten years. Perhaps twenty. Or perhaps even longer.
Indeed, Spirit Hall's enemies were incomparably powerful and incomparably cunning. They were not merely the reclusive Clear Sky Sect and the still-ungrown Tang San, but even more powerful beings residing in the God Realm.
They considered themselves above all others and coldly toyed with the fates of mortals. Every flower, tree, blade of grass, and stone was a chess piece in their eyes—and so were people.
They possessed infinite power. To them, nothing in the lower world held any secrets; they could peer into all heavenly mysteries whenever they wished.
That was why Su He could not give a definite answer. The disparity in strength between the two sides was simply too vast.
Even the mighty Angel God had become a chess piece. What hope was there for mortals like them, living upon the continent?
"Xue'er, we can win, no matter who our opponent is." Smiling, Su He caressed the face of the girl in his arms, his golden eyes shining with an unusual light.
Beneath the beautiful moonlight, the two kissed passionately aboard the small boat.
Su He's tone was incomparably resolute. As long as those gods were bound by the rules of the God Realm and unable to descend personally, then no matter how much they favored Tang San, Su He was confident he could defeat him.
The gap between them was not merely one of status, but of character.
How could a grassroots genius reincarnated from a thief of a hidden-weapon sect possibly compare to a king destined to rule the continent?
There was so much of this world yet to explore.
Once matters on the Heaven Dou Empire's side had completely stabilized, Su He would leave Heaven Dou Imperial City in search of more opportunities.
The Star Luo Empire, the Far North, Slaughter City, Sea God Island, Gengxin City, and even the distant Sun Moon Continent—Su He would leave his footprints upon them all.
Su He's ambitions did not end with Spirit Hall unifying the continent. He wanted to become the king of the Douluo world, the king of the God Realm.
The days of cultivation continued as usual. Yet when Su He returned that afternoon from the Gold Attribute Mimicry Cultivation grounds at Heaven Dou Royal Academy and entered the gates of the Crown Prince's Palace, he saw two unfamiliar figures. One of them was speaking with "Xue Qinghe," and judging by "Xue Qinghe's" manner, he appeared to treat that man with exceptional respect.
The man leaned on a mahogany staff topped with a crystal-clear piece of high-grade jade. His face was as refined as jade, his nose straight and his mouth square. He had a gentle, elegant appearance, and his spotless white robe was utterly free of dust.
He looked to be around forty years old. His gaze was mild, and no matter how one looked at him, he seemed like an ordinary person. His soft black hair fell loosely down his back, and everything about him appeared casual, without the slightest affectation.
Yet despite his ordinary appearance, the faint majesty in his expression was still obvious, allowing anyone to tell at a glance that he held a position of great power.
The other was an elderly man with sword-like brows and starry eyes. He wore a pristine snow-white robe, his beard and hair both white. His long silver hair was neatly combed behind his back. His features were ancient and austere, while his face was as tender as an infant's. His expression was indifferent, and his eyes seemed unable to see anything around him. He merely stood there quietly, watching the two converse without saying a word.
Yet merely standing there, he gave off the feeling that among heaven and earth, he alone reigned supreme.
With Su He's powers of observation, he naturally identified the two at once.
The sect master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, the continent's foremost support sect and the second-ranked of the Upper Three Sects: Ning Fengzhi, a level seventy-nine Support Type Soul Sage.
And one of the sect's guardian Douluo, a level ninety-six Assault Type Titled Douluo whose martial soul was the Seven Kill Sword—the Sword Douluo Chen Xin, known as the continent's strongest attacker!
It seemed Ning Fengzhi had been accompanied by Sword Douluo today, while Bone Douluo Gu Rong remained behind to guard the sect.
Su He had not expected the two to visit the Crown Prince's Palace to see Xue Qinghe today. But upon recalling that Xue Qinghe and Ning Fengzhi were nominally master and disciple, he was no longer surprised.
After reporting his itinerary to "Xue Qinghe," Su He prepared to leave quickly.
But unexpectedly, a powerful and razor-sharp surge of Soul Power suddenly enveloped Su He's body, making him unable to move even an inch.
Su He narrowed his eyes, his back turned to the three of them. Naturally, he knew that Sword Douluo Chen Xin was the one who had acted, but he did not know what he was plotting.
At that moment, Teacher Golden Crocodile Douluo's voice sounded in his heart, reassuring him considerably.
"He'er, do not worry. Chen Xin's Soul Power carries no hostility."
After sending those words, Golden Crocodile Douluo fell silent once more.
"That's enough, Uncle Sword." Ning Fengzhi, leaning on his staff, smiled and broke the silence first. "Don't frighten the junior."
Ning Fengzhi's voice carried a grand, magnanimous quality, yet there was not the slightest arrogance of a superior about it. It made one feel warmth and closeness.
But Su He, who was familiar with the Original Work, knew that beneath that refined and easygoing exterior lurked a genuine old fox!
Ning Fengzhi possessed an exceedingly terrifying political instinct, and in terms of scheming, he could be said to stand at the pinnacle of the continent.
In the Original Work, he had been able to smell the coming storm of bloodshed beneath the surface calm. Even someone as proud as Tang Hao had described Ning Fengzhi as "a man of great talent," which showed just how capable Ning Fengzhi was.
Yet Su He did not feel the pressure on his body disappear. Instead, it grew even stronger.
With all his strength, Su He turned around and looked toward the white-haired elder whose Soul Power had rendered him unable to advance a single step. He saw that the latter was also sizing him up, an intrigued expression appearing on his face.
Combining that with what Golden Crocodile Douluo had said, Su He immediately understood that Sword Douluo Chen Xin was testing his mettle.
