Background / History

Broly was a five-year-old Saiyan living on Planet Vampa when Luo Tian fought him. Despite his extraordinary strength, Broly could not land a hit on Luo Tian and cried in frustration. Luo Tian defeated and healed him, then invited him to explore the universe; Broly accepted and left Vampa with him. 26

Having grown up in deprivation and isolation, Broly initially struggled to communicate and lacked ordinary experience. Luo Tian sent him to gather Dragon Balls so that he could develop through travel and responsibility. Broly completed the mission, though he forcibly took one Dragon Ball from Master Roshi after Roshi refused to give it up. 36 37

Luo Tian used the Namekian Dragon Balls to grant Broly the ability to survive in outer space. This allowed Broly to accompany Luo Tian through space without the normal Saiyan limitation. 42

Broly later fought Ize in space. After being overwhelmed by Ize's true form, he transformed into a Super Saiyan when Luo Tian and Jacoo provoked him by staging Jacoo's death. He killed Ize, but the transformation left him unstable. 53 55

Luo Tian continued to cultivate Broly as a prospective God of Destruction. Broly's uncontrolled Legendary Super Saiyan rampage at the Realm of the Kais demonstrated both his potential and his need for mental discipline; with Merus's assistance, he regained enough control to draw the Divine Sword. 83 84

As an adult, Broly confronted Paragus on Planet Vampa. He identified Paragus's control collar as an attempt to restrain him and eventually left his father behind rather than kill him. Though he remained hurt by Paragus's treatment, he showed emotional growth by refusing to take revenge through murder. 148 149

Broly pursued the position of Great God of Destruction despite learning that other Gods of Destruction could kill him while he was forbidden from killing them. He accepted the risk to become stronger and protect those close to him. 163

He is intensely loyal to Luo Tian and repeatedly chooses to remain at his side even when offered an independent God of Destruction position. Broly views himself as Luo Tian's “sharpest sword” and accepts danger in pursuit of Luo Tian's goals. 147 163 225

Although capable of extreme brutality in battle, Broly develops greater restraint over time. He does not kill Paragus after confronting him, respects Bardock's strength, and is willing to sacrifice all of his power to restore Xiao Ai. 149 185
