Background / History
Vegeta was raised as the Saiyan Prince and a gifted warrior whose Battle Power had surpassed King Vegeta’s by age five. Luo Tian, another prodigy praised by King Vegeta, became Vegeta’s childhood rival and source of envy; Vegeta took particular satisfaction when Luo Tian’s Battle Power fell from 20,000 to 100. 1 350
He initially served under Frieza’s forces while seeking enough power to overthrow Frieza and become the Cosmic Emperor. His early ambition centered on becoming a Super Saiyan, though Porunga informed him that he lacked the bloodline required for the Legendary Super Saiyan form. 6 21
After repeated defeats and humiliation—particularly at the hands of Son Goku, Frieza, and stronger Namekian opponents—Vegeta accepted Luo Tian’s offer to pursue the path of a God of Destruction. He began training Ultra Ego and Destruction rather than Ultra Instinct. 167 171 179
Personality
Vegeta is intensely proud, competitive, and blunt. He regularly dismisses opponents, insists that no one can order him around, and measures himself against Son Goku at every opportunity. 13 165 235
His pride is paired with exceptional persistence. Defeat typically drives him to train harder, develop another transformation, or seek a new technique rather than surrender. 179 372 465
Over time, his motivations broaden beyond personal supremacy. During the Moro conflict, he fights to restore stolen energy and protect the Namekians; Piccolo recognizes this as an effort to atone for Vegeta’s past actions. 414 415
Abilities & Skills
Saiyan Physiology
Vegeta can grow stronger after recovering from severe injuries and possesses multiple transformation paths.
- His Battle Power rose from 18,000 to 24,000 after a near-death recovery, then to roughly 35,000 after healing from Zarbon’s attack. 10
- He can create an Artificial Full Moon to activate his Great Ape form. 18 198
- His Great Ape transformation is vulnerable to tail loss, leaving the moon’s range, or destruction of the Artificial Full Moon. 18 179
Destruction
Vegeta cultivates God of Destruction power through Ultra Ego training.
- Destruction energy can erase physical objects completely, as demonstrated when it reduces rock and Raditz’s restraints to nothingness. 216 251
- He uses Destruction to defeat Android 19 and attack Zarbon. 188 222
- Majin Buu can swallow and digest Vegeta’s Destruction attack, making the technique ineffective against him in that encounter. 311
- In his Super Saiyan 4 God of Destruction form, destruction energy neutralizes Granolah’s energy bullets and restores Vegeta’s injuries. 462
Spirit’s Forced Separation Technique
A Yardrat technique that forcibly separates absorbed or fused energy from its host.
- Vegeta requests a technique specifically capable of countering Moro. 403
- He uses it to expel the energy Moro absorbed from planets and victims, returning that power to its original owners. 414
- The technique weakens Moro substantially and enables Vegeta to defeat him. 414
Combat Skill
Vegeta is an adaptive close-range fighter who combines direct aggression with tactical awareness.
- He recognizes that Scouter readings are unreliable against opponents who can alter their Battle Power during combat. 160
- He outsmarts Frieza’s forces, escapes their spaceship, and steals five Dragon Balls. 188
- He trains his spirit under Great Elder Pybara, allowing him to unlock strength he previously could not control or fully release. 402
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Scouter — Used to measure Battle Power and communicate with Nappa and Raditz. 1 160

- Super Saiyan 4 transformation device — Used by the GT-timeline Vegeta to transform before Beerus orders him to pursue the form naturally. 350
Relationships
- Luo Tian — Childhood rival, adviser, and provider of Vegeta’s Ultra Instinct Training Manual; Vegeta resents Luo Tian’s superiority but accepts his guidance. 1 167
- Son Goku / Kakarot — Lifelong rival. Vegeta continually seeks to surpass him, though they cooperate against threats such as Moro. 167 388 465
- Nappa — Saiyan subordinate and longtime companion; Nappa follows Vegeta’s commands and fears his judgment. 23 160
- Raditz — Saiyan associate whom Vegeta contacts to organize resistance against Frieza. 23
- Trunks — His son. Vegeta’s desire to protect Trunks triggers his Super Saiyan 6 transformation after Trunks self-destructs. 219 541
- Piccolo — Rival and occasional ally. Their relationship develops into mutual battlefield support, including Piccolo healing Vegeta during the tournament. 222 465 466
- Frieza — Primary enemy and former superior. Vegeta’s desire to defeat and destroy Frieza drives much of his early training. 10 175
- Moro — Enemy whose energy absorption Vegeta counters with Spirit’s Forced Separation. 414 415
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Saiyan and Namek period
Vegeta accompanies Luo Tian to Namek in pursuit of Dragon Ball wishes, uses Great Ape form to overpower Nail, and learns that ordinary Super Saiyan transformation requires a peaceful heart. 18 21
He later reaches Battle Power 18,000, reconnects with Nappa and Raditz, and begins openly positioning himself against Frieza. 23
Earth battle and God of Destruction path
Vegeta battles Son Goku on Earth, repeatedly uses Great Ape form, and is ultimately defeated by Goku’s developing Ultra Instinct. His humiliation leads him to ask Luo Tian for Ultra Instinct training, but Luo Tian instead directs him toward Ultra Ego and the role of God of Destruction. 166 167
Android and Cell conflicts
After years of training, Vegeta becomes a Super Saiyan and defeats Android 19 with Destruction energy. He later trains beyond Super Saiyan and returns declaring himself “God of Destruction Vegeta,” overwhelming Cell. 222 230
Majin Buu conflict
Vegeta unlocks Super Saiyan 4 to fight Majin Buu. Although Buu defeats him repeatedly, Vegeta attempts to sacrifice himself after ensuring Goten and Trunks are removed from danger. 309 311
Moro conflict
Vegeta protects Namekians during Moro’s attack, then trains on Yardrat under Pybara. He returns with greater control of his spirit and the Spirit’s Forced Separation Technique, defeating Moro by releasing the energy Moro had stolen. 388 402 414
Tournament and multiverse conflicts
Vegeta reaches Level 39 by achieving Super Saiyan 4 God of Destruction, surpassing Goku’s stated Level 37 at the time. He later develops Super Saiyan 5 and Super Saiyan 6 amid escalating battles across timelines. 462 538 541
