Peter nearly got stabbed by Carnage's final strike before death.

Because Carnage possessed a molecular-level hive mind, with each symbiote cell retaining its independence, Mysterio's program had to get close enough to interfere with Cletus's thoughts. That was why Peter had needed to grab Cletus just as he delivered that final stab, and he had nearly missed.

Fortunately, I was better.

What Cletus saw in the end was actually an illusion of Spider-Man being pierced. Using that, Peter was able to make contact with Cletus.

What followed was simple: make contact with Cletus, use the program to sever the mental connection between Cletus and the symbiote molecules in his body, then use Anti-Venom to purge the symbiotes from inside him.

After completing all that, Cletus, who had only been clinging to life, finally died for good and ascended to the symbiote planet.

"Still, honestly, it was ridiculous that he managed to survive under those circumstances..."

After one final remark about Cletus's desperate resistance, Peter sighed and contacted the Bus team.

"Agent Coulson, Carnage is dead. Completely dead."

"Thank you very much, Spider-Man. These employees infected by the symbiote, along with the many more people who may have been infected, will need time to investigate and quarantine."

Those infected by Carnage might no longer be controlled by the symbiote after Carnage's death, but the symbiote cells inside them remained a hidden danger. And the only thing capable of completely eradicating those symbiote cells now was Spider-Man's Anti-Venom.

So Peter's further assistance would still be needed to deal with the aftermath.

Naturally, Peter had no objections. Even so, there was only one thing on his mind now: getting some proper rest.

"I'll wait for your message, Agent Coulson, but right now I just want to go home and sleep. Goodbye."
