Three Fates

The Norn Sisters, the Three Fates of Norse mythology, were a very important part of Norse myth. The three goddesses governed the past, Urd; the present, Verdandi; and the future, Skuld.

They were NPCs who appeared very rarely in the comics, so rarely that almost no works had anything to do with them. But Peter vaguely remembered that they also seemed to be the Greek Fates, because the place where they lived contained the Loom of Fate from Greek mythology.

So Peter simply asked Thor, "Who exactly are the Three Fates? I mean, apart from the mythology everyone already knows."

"I don't know either. We've had little contact with either Nornheim or the Norn Sisters. Nornheim is a special region of Asgard, directly connected to the Well of Urd that nourishes the roots of the World Tree. Its residents call themselves Norns rather than Aesir, which makes them seem somewhat out of place."

Thor was taking Peter to Nornheim when Peter, after thinking for a moment, came up with the only connection he had to the Three Fates. "Could it have something to do with the Web of Destiny? They have a Loom of Fate, and I'm connected to the Web of Destiny."

For some reason, Thor laughed when he heard that.

"Uh, it's certainly possible, but I doubt it's what you're thinking. The Norn Sisters do hold a certain degree of control over fate, but the Web of Destiny is far too vast for them. All right, we're here—the Norns' Norn Castle."

The Asgardians guarding the place clearly had no fondness for outsiders, Thor included. They immediately stopped him. "Halt, Son of Odin. The queen did not invite you."

"My presence here has nothing to do with your queen. The Norn Sisters invited this mortal."
