One of the Ultrons had targeted Wakanda. Upon receiving the news, the Avengers immediately mobilized in full, notifying T'Challa while setting out at once.
After boarding the plane, Hank gave Peter a crash course on Wakanda. What he explained was completely different from the Wakanda Peter knew.
For instance, Wakanda was not located in East Africa as Peter remembered, but in West Africa, bordering Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
"Wakanda originally began as a small inland tribe within the ancient Mali Kingdom. Located in the harsh Sahel region between the Sahara Desert and the Sudanian savanna, even during the colonial era, the French, their nominal overlords, barely bothered with them. They worshiped Leopard God Bast, and since they had once been ruled by the Mali Kingdom, they were actually quite... advanced for an African tribe."
Wakanda had two greatest specialties: Vibranium and Heart-shaped Grass. Before the Industrial Age, the former had little practical use. Vibranium was a metal exceptionally sensitive to energy; it could even prevent sound waves from producing echoes, which was why it was also called Sound-absorbing Steel.
To the ancient Wakandans, this stuff was treated as a sacred relic. Its most common use was to repeatedly strike it before rituals and battles, then throw it out as a grenade when the time came. It was not until the great colonial era of the nineteenth century, when colonizers began refusing to spare even Africa's poorest regions, that Vibranium was discovered by a few people.
Its true functions and capabilities, however, would not be discovered until the interwar period.
As for the versions found in many other Marvel universes, where a single chunk of Vibranium instantly launched all of Wakanda into the future and advanced its technology by thousands of years, that simply did not exist in Universe 616.
