Leo turned to Fury and said, "Your original idea in creating the Avengers was to deal with invasions from other galaxies, wasn't it?"
"You've done a great job of that now."
Fury looked at Leo, then gave an exasperated smile.
"At first, I wanted to find people like Carol. But as you know, it's incredibly difficult for someone like that to appear on Earth."
"And all I could do at first was organize top agents like Barton and Natasha. But that was different from what I originally had in mind."
Fury sat down beside him as well and gazed into the darkness.
"That's right. When I first created the Avengers, it was to prevent invasions by Extraterrestrial Civilization. But it was only in the past few years that things really began to accelerate."
"It wasn't until you appeared that I thought I'd truly found someone like Danvers. But looking at things now, it seems that idea of mine was a little too extravagant."
There was a trace of loneliness in Fury's voice. His true purpose had been to prevent Earth's civilization from being invaded by outside civilizations. He simply hadn't expected that even strengthening S.H.I.E.L.D. alone would be so difficult.
